To be honest, this is one of my dumbest ideas since even calling this song a 'leitmotif' is a stretch. I'm skeptical as to whether most of these are even intentional. (Another Him and Darkness Falls are the only one's I'm sure on). The only reason I'm re-making it is because I've improved quite a bit since the first video, and since it's still getting views, I don't want that video to be people's first impressions to the channel, still.

Wow, those improves are good. Didn't know you wasn't having so good your first video about tricks with mind, Toby Fox doing through music as well as in other directions. I thinked King and Jevil are connected somehow through something in their musical theme, I thinked it was The Legend music theme, which is present with 1st one. This connection you have found proves the link, the link with Gaster, but also means that not each one of them must have The Legend leitmotif.

My theory (ok Matpat's theory, but I have a little extra evidence to add on to it) is that Gaster was trying to develop a world where monsters never got banished to the underground, (I added this part) he is in complete control over it, which is why his theme appears everywhere, and why your choices don't matter. Also it says he fell into his creation, maybe he fell into a portal to the deltarune world, which cause parts of him to exist everywhere, because you aren't supposed to exist in multiple universes at once.

Shamima Akter Many speculate that other person is Chara. While the text isn’t red, they both have similar “styles” in their speech as well as their focus on existentialism. Or perhaps, if that ever so prominent sprite really is Gaster (or some extension of him), the other person speaking is the second face in that sprite? There IS a second face there. The sprite’s hands are the eyes. I’d go with the first option imo, as both characters seem to have some influence on the game and both seem to “cancel each other out.” By that I mean that you cannot kill everyone in Deltarune, but you cannot get everyone onto your side either.

Something interesting I noticed is that Gaster’s theme, the Twilight Zone theme, and Lavender town theme are all composed basically the same: They are zig zag lines. Gaster: Low Mid High Mid Twilight Zone: Mid High Mid Low Lavender town: Low Mid High Mid Apparently zig zag lines are creepy

You can make your own creepy music with a quick trick. Picking any diminished seventh chord and arpeggiating it makes for a spooky creepo sound. I think it’s because the chord is non-committal to being major or minor which puts it in some sort of auditory uncanny valley! And then you add in some tritones and before you know it you got your very own spooky lavender town-esque creep-jam.

I'm gonna just leave my opinion here, I'm no expert on any of this: Even though Gaster's theme has only three unique notes, the distance between the notes is important. The first and second notes are right next to each other, while the second and third are more than half an octave apart. _A list of the songs in this video, ordered by how convinced I am, from most to least:_ *Another Him* - The game's entire intro is Gaster themed. The song is basically identical, just with a new rhythm. *Darkness Falls* - The first measure of each phrase is the original theme, with the rest of the phrases being an extension. Seems like a logical way to make a song out of Gaster's theme. ^ (both of the above songs are also played on echo-bathed pianos, like the original) ^ *Scarlet Forest & The World Revolving* - The accent is on the high note instead of the low, but it's still the same theme with similar relative intervals between the notes. Also, both of these areas have something that's at least supposed to make us think of Gaster, those being Mr. Egg and the strange man with a "darker, yet darker" worldview who met with Jevil. *The Circus* - I'm a little less convinced with the song itself, but I'm pretty sure about it being in Jevil's other theme so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ *Friendship* - I really don't see a reason for this song to have Gaster's theme but the intervals are correct between all of the notes so I'm not against it. *April 2012* - The chords definitely sound the same, but if the song was actually written in April of 2012 it seems like a coincidence to me. Still pretty interesting. *Card Castle* - I think this is just a standard, non-Gaster-related bass arpeggio. Those were pretty common in NES music (since full chords would talk all of the NES's sound channels), which I'm pretty sure this song is styled after. Some sections do sound kinda similar in way of intervals, but not enough for me to be convinced. *Rouxls Kaard* - Again, pretty sure this is just a standard arpeggio. No Gasting here. *THE HOLY* - Yea, it's another arpeggio, but this one isn't even going in the right direction. the chords don't sound all that similar either. *Chaos King* - I'm not really sure which part you're saying is Gaster. The guitar? Anyway, I just don't hear it. So, that's my opinion. Again, I'm no expert on this, I just think conversation and debate is fun. sry for long comment.

I agree. Most of these "Gaster's Theme Sightings" are just simple arpeggios unrelated to Gaster's theme. When they hear 4 notes going low middle high middle, they immediately say "gAsTeR's ThEmE!!1."

I agree, although I actually hear more of the theme in "The Circus" than I do in "THE WORLD REVOLVING." Also, I was surprised this video didn't include the Man Behind the Tree song. I guess it isn't part of the main soundtrack, but then again, Gaster's theme isn't part of Undertale's main soundtrack. But yeah, "Another Him" is definitely intentional, right down to the name (Gaster's theme's file is "mus_st_him"). "Darkness Falls" sounds pretty intentional, too, and I wouldn't put it past Toby to reference Gaster in either of Jevil's themes, due to Jevil's connection to Gaster. Chances are you're right about "Scarlet Forest" as well. It seemed like in this video, the appearances of Lancer's theme in both "Chaos King" and "Card Castle" were confused for the Gaster theme.

Perhaps "Another Him" means it's another Gaster, not the same Gaster that was in Undertale, just as all the other characters (excluding Sans). Instead of some timey-wimey thing happening to him causing him to split into pieces around the universe, he is a different, more god-like figure which births beings to the world of Deltarune somehow? Or maybe, "Another Him" refers to you creating a goner (gaster follower, they are perhaps monsters or humans, even, that have been infused with a piece of the same Gaster from Undertale), since apparently in the code of the game, this whole creation scene is called "Goner Maker".

Adding to this, deltarune is an alternate universe/timeline of undertale. All the characters are the same old characters you knew just with a tiny bit of changes, like how ralsei is an anagram of asriel. So this could also apply to gaster. Since we’re in an entirely different universe and the core was never built, gaster still could exist. Since there wasn’t any core to fall into, gaster couldn’t be shattered across time and space.

Most of the music in Undertale are composed of other ones: example, Spider Dance being basically another version of Ghost fight and Dummy, the bells of Finale being his theme, part of Asgore is Heartache, and etc... In Gaster's Theme, as you know, there are 4 notes played 4 times and another 4 notes played 4 times, repeating. The first notes are "A - B♭ - F - B♭", or a "3 - 4 - 8 - 4" pattern on the F Major scale. The second notes are "A♭ - A - E - A", or the "3 - 4 - 8 - 4" pattern on the E Major scale. Therefore, Gaster's leitmotif should be considered this progression of notes within a chord.

most compelling evidence to me is the fact that in game code, the intro "vessel creator" types with a typer value of 666, which is the same one as journal 17 in Undertale (which is in wingdings and one of the most obvious gaster things available)

Honestly. I think every single one of these was intentional. Producing music all by yourself means you're laser-focused on every aspect of the sound as you've likely listened to every track isolated multiple times. It's highly unlikely Toby put a bunch of these in without realising. Especially since Toby is such a motif-focused composer. The entirety of the Undertale soundtrack intentionally lacks the Gaster Theme motif apart from Dating Start!. I think Toby makes accidents with coding and art, but VERY rarely with music.

Something else: The file name for Gaster's Theme is mus_soundtest_him.ogg, which means that the name of Another Him is based off of this, which, in addition to the fact that Another Him is clearly based off of Gaster's Theme, means that Another Him is meant to belong to Gaster, as another theme of his, which is turn means that the person who's talking to you at the beginning of the game is Gaster.

This is not serious and purely for entertainment.If you know Rob Scallon,his most popular song "Rain",for some reason,has Gaster leitmotif in it,only in different scale(?) and less repetative. Jokes aside.Time for some nerdy explaination. Its kinda scary that "April 2012" not only have the leitmotif,but some if its chord progression is similar too. "Another him" has the leitmotif and the exact same chord progression(as it was the same song),only in different time signature(the 4th note was played a bit late).

@@cas_thekid Its pretty hard to hear(i can barely hear it tbh),but it's still has the same progression.If you can play the Gaster theme(pretty simple,just play those 4 notes)over some part of the song,you can hear it fits perfectly. Another shocking discovery when i was laying down and playing the Gaster theme in my head,then play "it's raining somewhere" afterwards,it also has the same bassline intervals(aka the chord progression).

EDIT - I agree with the description as I think in fact "Another Him" and "Darkness Falls" are the only ones which distinctively have the leitmotifs, for the other song there's a bit of a stretch. This is very amusing. I really like little details Toby Fox has put into his music and how you were able to find them. One thing I would like to note is when you're doing the comparison, It's a little harder to hear the similarities between what song is playing at the time and Gaster's song when they're both being played at the same time. Some I suggest is perhaps playing them back to back, or having a music sheet out that points out the similar sounding notes so people can better hear the similarities. Again, I really like the video and I find it amazing how you were able to hear these little things in each of these songs, whether or not it was intentional. Great video, I enjoyed watching it.

Most of these "Gaster's Theme Sightings" are just simple arpeggios unrelated to Gaster's theme. When most people hear 4 notes going low middle high middle, they immediately say "gAsTeR's ThEmE!!1." You also have to consider their distances between each notes too. The soundtracks that I think truly have Gaster's Theme Leitmotif in them are Another Him, Scarlet Forest, Darkness Falls, The World Revolving, and I think there's a bit of Gaster's Theme in The Circus. Not quite sure about April 2012 & Friendship tho. But the others definitely don't have Gaster's Theme in them.
