Welcome! It was time to clear out my scrap bin. With no set plan in place, I simply started sewing them together, as usual: first by 2s, then by 4s, and continuing. Imagine my thrill when I ended up with a BOLT of scrap fabric ready to be used in future projects! The finished bolt is a little over 18 feet long, and the minimum width is 18 inches. (5.48 meters by 45 centimeters).
I hope you use this idea to have some FUN with your scraps!

I think one of the reasons your scrap blocks are so attractive in the bags, etc. is because you pull out the white as an accent ... I call that the focus fabric. Any color can be a focus fabric, but it sure does make your scrap bolts look more cohesive and less chaotic.

It was very gratifying to find someone who does their scraps this way. The only thing i do differently is I cut 9.5 inch squares. I have made at leat 8 quilt tops so far and can make about 4 more. I am trying to get them completed so I can possibly sell them. I also have been making some backs with large scarps adding in random fat quarters. It is a fun process and i am so happy to not be wasting fabric. Thank you for your video. I am now a subscriber too

I started binge watching all of your tutorials today! I am so impressed with your ideas & way of thinking. I am hoping for some new incentive to start projects that do not tap into my perfectionism & actually completing projects instead of procrastinating for fear I may not make the quilt perfectly. Anyway, I love your ideas, your approach to projects, & your finished work!

I'm happy to hear this! ☀️❤️ I am not a perfectionist, although I do try hard on special projects (like my paper piecing). But I definitely procrastinate! I have so many quilt tops to get finished up by November! Looking forward to hearing from you again, Linda! 🌸

Great work. It is quite satisfying when we actually finish a project. I was chosing fabric for a crazy quilt I would like to make this year yesterday. In the process I opened a couple of shoeboxes and realized there was a bunch of blocks I had started for another quilt. Then I counted up in my head how many projects I started and did not finish, there's about 4 or 5. Not sure what that's about, but I am going to try to finish at least one project before I start another one. I think we just like to make things and the ideas keep popping in our heads. I don't know. I guess I need to learn to "power through" as you said. Thank you for the video.

Catching up on some of your earlier videos. 3-4 months ago I started sewing scraps together on foundation fabric (old sheet) and I thought 24" was a large piece, which I've already used. Seeing you create this LONG piece means I know I can create longer pieces and not think it's crazy to do so haha. Thanks for showing it's ok 😁

Great job! It's amazing how quickly you can make a roll of fabric like that. I do something similar and use widish strips of remade fabric down the centre of my quilt backs. That cuts down on the amount of backing fabric that I need. It is very satisfying to make new fabric out of what was headed to the landfill otherwise. Cheers! 😊

That's great. I've been working on my scraps for more than 2 months (weekends only). I have just been so overwhelmed by my scraps that I decided to put some quilt projects aside and sew some of my scraps up. I sewed up some like you did in your video but I also cut some to standard sizes and I've made 2 scrap quilts that I'll donate. The problem with scraps is you end up with more scraps after trimming them up - I make pet beds with those scraps. I really do feel like I can never get ahead of my scraps though. You did a great job and I enjoyed watching your process.

Beautiful, I LOVE this method, my favorite way to use scraps. For those who asked how long it took-this doesn’t have to be done all in one setting, get a designated container and quickly sew the scraps at the end of your sewing day or end of each project, or designate 15 minutes a day. You will still have the same wonderful results. 😊❤

I think this video and "Turn Scraps Into Good!" video are the two definitive videos that have changed my thinking about my scraps - - I love them, but I am always behind. However, by watching your videos a few time each, I am finally seeing my weaknesses (which explain why I sometimes feel overwhelmed - - but ... not enough to stop gather scraps! LOL) anyway, when I get discouraged, I watch your scrap videos and get inspired to keep working at it.

Thanks for watching! I appreciate your comment. I believe I spent a total of around 20-30 hours on this project, after work and one full weekend. Rule of thumb, the smaller the pieces you use the LONGER it will take! I used a combination of small and larger pieces in this bolt. It was so fun!

I just came across your video, I make 10" crumb squares and use them for backing. I put a 2.5 " strip on the sides top and bottom so they don't get to thick when sewing on my projects. I love how you made the bolt of scraps. I am going to do this . I have over 300 10" squares made. Question So if I take some of them and cut them down to 18" and sew the sqs together it would work like yours? Should I do any thing different? From now on I will make bolts of fabric, sorted by colors. Thanks again for a great tutorial.😘🥰
@sunbeamfabricart

There is certainly room on this bolt for wider fabric, so you could make it 20" wide instead of 18", so you would not have to cut anything down, maybe. I am glad you found the video helpful!
