It still irks me that this theme existed, and instead of refining it, they took it out at the last minute and replaced it with an invincibility theme that lasts like three seconds, or one, depending on the version. The game could have been even cooler than it already was.

@@reshawshid The other theory is it was the competition mode, or results theme for it. Another semi-unrelated one is HPZ Beta's music was suppose to be for the Special Stage due to a subtly similarities to S1's.

Kinda like what happened with the beta music of Sonic 2 getting shifted around during development to zones that the music fit, like Oil Ocean originally being for Dust Hill, Metropolis originally being for Wood, etc. It's not like STI _didn't_ develop both games, they've done it before

@@MechaShadow84 I think the problem is that Jun never translated his compositions to the Genesis himself, instead a programmer did that - because it was rare for a composer to know how to do both - but because now Jun is making these with Genesis sounds himself, his... _incompetency_ with making it sound good with the hardware is showing, and has been since Sonic 4, unfortunately...

I hope they make these couple of games how the Christian Whitehead ports were and of course sonic 3 A.I.R (with all of the selectable options like running animations, difficult etc...)
