If no one has explained yet the eng and swed versions often tell form different perspectives as in the song lifetime of war the eng song tell a overview of the 30 years war and the swed version (En Livstid I Krig) tell form the perspective of a swedish soldier in the war in this song 1648 eng tell of the people of Prague defending the city against the swedes In swed version tells of Sweden trying to take the city 1648 is also when the Thirty Years War ended the song being the last battle of the war the war would begin in the city of Prague and end in the city of Prague

Fitting, given that the war started when protestants from the Bohemian nobility defenestrated (threw out a window) Prauges two Catholic governors from the upper floors of Karlštejn Castle over a land dispute. (that for complicated reasons could be interpreted as an infringement of their right to religous freedom. Politics as always) The rest, as they say, is history

2 interesting facts: 1. Joakim Brodén (the singer) is from Sweden but is half Czech. 2. The English version has the perspective of the Czechs instead of the Swedes.

I highly belive that "Arson and Murder" is a more appropriate translation of the first line in the chorus rather than "Fire and Death" at least it sounds more like the correct context to me. Brand(Fire) och mord (murder), mord is straight up mistranslated and based on the context and considering that the Swedish word for arson is mordbrand(murder-fire) that sounds like a more correct translation based on the context.

To all Czechs out there, the direct translation to these words are "murder" instead of "killing" and "arson" instead of "fire". Sabaton definitely aren't trying to sugar coat how Sweden was the "enemy" in this case. I'm really happy that they aren't afraid of showing their own country as "evil" and telling it like it is, even including the slaughter and rape of innocents in there. Even though the song gets you pumped up, they aren't trying to show the war as anything righteous, just war as it is and unfortunately throughout the ages, atrocities have been part of any attacking force, and it ain't pretty. As a swede myself, respect to anyone who has defended what is theirs against their attackers.

Well, I'm kinda new here and like what is done here. But I have to say as a Czech I prefer English version of this song, because in this version it's more about how Swedes tryed to take over the Prag and how hard they were trying. In english it's more about how Czech people fought for their freedom and fight to get Swedes out of their country. Anyways both are good but only my brain says that this is like fighting with your own people.

This battle took place right at the end of the war. Swedish commanders had already besiged Prague when they got the message of ceasefire. But they thought that if they attacked and looted the city quickly, they could lie and say that they did it before they got they knew about the ceasefire.

The one thing i love about this song each version sings of a different perspective. The swedish one sings of the last push to gain as much wealth as possible before the peace talks are through. The English one is about the citizens of prague defending themselves against the swedish onslaught. That is a theme taht runs throughout the album each song basically has two perspectives.

No mercy and evil deeds refes to mass slaughter of pesants (and other civilians). Man and boys were quite often tortured to death (for amusment of mercenaries and to find pesant´s hidden tresures) women and girls were usualy raped first than tortured. "Lucky" boys and girls were allowed to became camp followers.

That war (or rather complex of multiple wars) is main reason why merenary and its translations is quite dirty word in many europian languages. It is estimated that in those 30 years population of HRE (Holy Roman Empire) got reduced by 30-35% and it is considered the most devastating war in europian history. Btw the men in previus comment ment non-combatants.
