The heavy gauge pink wire at about 9:12 is 12 volt switched for ignition. You can run it directly to your HEI distributor. You'll probably need to splice on the HEI connector to this wire.

This is a huge help for me. My 2.2 2nd gen threw a rod and I gave a 305 I’ll be putting in her. I’ve never done anything more than a clutch replacement so can’t wait to learn a thing or two :)

I had found some wiring diagrams for the truck online (forums, Facebook groups) and found those very useful when I started messing with the wires. Would recommend trying to find one for references also.

Fifteen years ago I got over enthusiastic removing "extra" wires from under the hood of my 90 1500 4x4, what a party that turned into, for my Sonoma I went chicken shit with a Painless harness. lol

Yeah I don't like messing with the electrical stuff. I had a detailed wiring diagram for it before I cut so I felt ok about snipping the wires lol. The painless stuff is nice, I would've used that on this if I had too and will use their stuff on the next project I have waiting once get the s10 on the road.

Question, are you going in with a carburetor or TBI fuel injected... IM PUTTING A 95 TBI FUEL INJECTED 5.7 iN MY 90 s10. Can i use everything from the 95 TBI & PUT IT IN USE FOR MY s10 ..
@304customsgarage Жыл бұрын
Yes I am using a carburetor. As for the things stuff I'm not 100 percent certain but I imagine you could use some of the stuff on the v8 swap. If going that route however I would label all the wires as you unhook them and set them aside vs cutting anything out. Sorry I can't be of much help for the Tbi stuff.

Thanks! For the hei distributor as I am using there is a medium sized pink wire that would go to one side of the distributor and then a green wire will be run from the "aftermarket" tach to the other connection on the distributor.

How would I go about getting the stock in tank fuel pump to work with my 350 sbc and still work when you click the key? Do I have to cut the computer stuff out to do that/is the wire from the oem pump going to that computer?

do you know which wire goes to your distributor?
@304customsgarage2 жыл бұрын
For the power if using an Hei distributor you should be able to use the medium size pink wire coming off the fuse block on firewall. Needs "switched power" and the the other in my case would be a green wire for the tach. I bought a pig tail that clips onto the distributor connection

What about the relay on the firewall? Does any of that get cut or no?

I'm going to be running mechanical gauges in mine. If you wanted to use the dash ones you wouldn't want to just clip them off. I saved the ecm and left the wires long enough to be able to fix and reuse anything down the road should I need it.

Nice! I saw one set up like that this past weekend at a local car show. I spent alot of time studying it to say the least. I like the pro street look on hotrod builds myself. I think the S10's are great platforms for them too later down the road I may convert it to more of a pro street truck myself. As of right now it won't be set up to that extent but hopefully will run pretty good as a "street truck".

@@304customsgarage I love the " street truck " term, lots of wiggle room.

Yeah leaves it open for many possibilities lol I originally got this and intended it to be a simple "budget build" to cruise around in but it seems to just be getting further and further away from that the more I dive into the thing. I've even looked at different motor and trans options it could have in the future 🤷♂️

@@304customsgarage ; I got very lucky and bought my Sonoma project from a friend with almost every single part sitting mostly in the bed of the truck in an atmosphere controlled garage since Jan. 2019. I'm lucky he's one of those guys who tends to go overboard when he builds a toy with my Sonoma being no exception. The engine was dyno'd on 89 pump gas from the local Kwik Fill station so I don't see fuel as an issue. It didn't come with a trans so I ended up picking up an 4l80e freshly rebuilt 5000 miles ago from a friend. The friend who sold me the truck owns the tranny shop that rebuilt the trans (500.00). I know I won't be looking to change the driveline in this truck because I can't afford to match what is already there. When I say he go's overboard, he machined in oil squirters to spray the underside of the piston's to help keep them cool while using nitrous (if I chose to) and bushed the lifters, first time i've had a friend do that for a street engine.lol. This thing should be quite the street monster when it rolls out in the spring. It's got a 1st gen. 17* 399ci.stroker.

Here is the website I used if you scroll down through the posts theres some good information posted about what wires and pins go to what
