Cars are made to crush in certain spots. It's safer than having a totally stiff car. But people will keep saying "I'm not putting my family in that" well it's safer than whatever POS you have right now. It's the airbags that keep you safe

Last I checked Chevy has a 5 star crash rating on both Suburban and Tahoe for that model year. Comparing the Xc90 and the Sub/tahoe videos, both vehicles had equal side damage (the Volvo look to have slight more sheet metel damage off the roof). Just say you prefer the Vovlo!!!
