Bought an ex-SA fleet WH Statesman, 2 owner, books and service history 325,000km for $5700. Does not have a rattle, squeak and everything works. My wife drove it to work for a week and I had a hard time getting the keys off her

Pre covid vx ss's were cheap as. I picked up a red one for $1500. Few months later a factory black 6 speed with sunnie popped up for around $4000. I regret not purchasing it.

Some car prices are ridiculous still. Back in the day i owned an R32 GTR, i sold that thing for $6000, now there worth anywhere between $80k to over $100k for a clean example. Even my current XR6 Turbo, i bought that back in the day for $5000, when i got it mine had abour 130k klms on the clock, now its just a pinch over 160k klms and looking on marketplace i see the same XR6 Turbos with over 200k+ klms on the clock going anywhere between $15k to $20k. That being said, some clown teenie bopper the other week knocked on my front door saying he'd seen me driving the XR6T and asked if id be willing to sell it to him for $400 since he wanted it for his first car and it would be a massive help for him to get as a cheap first car. I had a good laugh and slammed the door on his face. For $400 i'd rather de-register it and keep it locked up in my garage🤣

@@kresnik_ss you cant really factor in inflation, you can on some cars but others is a bit iffy. Back when i got my R32 GTR i payed $10k for it stock standard, modded ones were going anywhere between $15k to $25k for a heavily modded single turboed monster of a GTR. Then all of a sudden they began shooting up in price around 2017 to 2018 which was about 1 year before the USA's 30 year import law came into play, the earliest GTR's being 89 models were about to hit 30 years in 2019 so the yanks kept buying and storing them till their age came so they could import them legally over there which blew out the prices massively. The XR6T i can understand the prices going up because of the inflation of the market, plus the cult following they have just like how back in the VL Turbo's became so popular amongst the car enthusiasts. I do agree though that the prices going up is good in a way to stop ruining the image, the centrelink bogans like you said really do ruin images of cars. Even other cars like the Silvia, S14 200SX and S15's, at one point the prices of them dropped so low that lots of centrelink bogans bought into them for like $3000 to $5000 and thrashed the living crap out of them ruining the image for a while, now their prices are going back up and its a good thing the bogan's cant get their hands on them any more

There's been a bit of a V8 price spike the last month or so, I love my 2019 Subaru WRX but after years of Holden V8's, I really miss my VE SS and even moreso the VY Calais I had before that, plus with some life events the last few months am nostalgic for my 20's when having an LS powered Holden was the goal I made happen. So I'm currently looking for a good VY V8 that is reasonably priced, a Calais is the top of the list but also would be keen on either a SS or Berlina wagon.

I think an L76/77/L98 wouldn't be a bad engine to buy now, specially if you do highway k's. Not as exotic as an LS3 or LSA, and would serve a family well if used for highway k's. A DoD delete with LS7 lifters, a mild exhaust and it'd make for a great daily driver engine. Just my 2c. Personally I wouldn't have a worry buying one that's been looked after. I also think that as we move towards an electric future, now's the time to have a performance V8 (insert whatever other performance engine layout you like) while they're still affordable and enough of them are out there.

Yeah well about a year ago even, a neighbour offered me a one owner vn v8 in rose grey for 8k and at the time I had no money. A year later I asked again and it he wanted nearly half that. Let alone the influx of cheap v8s like you've shown too on the market. Hopefully this trend continues for some time and hopefully we'll see more bargains

Car market is like every market.. the lackies that make dumb decisions will get flushed out when times are tough and the big fish that hold strong will win. Just for the record, all the good cars are not for sale because the big fish are neither weak nor stupid and when the market picks up even though statistically is still steady all the good cars will still go up in price. With my small collection if i was to sell any today im still making a profit and 4 of those cars were bought in the covid period.. but i do agree there is some rubbish for sale thats affordable.

The problem is that everyone is struggling in one way or another V8s drink a lot of fuel and i doubt they will be going up much in the future. An immaculate holden V6 in the VN to VY range would be a good buy if you buy them cheap enough.

If you have the $$$ in times of high inflation including cost of fuel and a shit load on a mortgage it’s the time to buy. Most people don’t so the last thing ya gonna buy is a thirsty V8 with heaps of k’s as a daily driver. Even as a weekend car they don’t make much sense. It’s a shame because in in my prime years as a hoon you could pick up anything you wanted at little cost and it didn’t matter if you fucked it, you bought another one.

Not really. They made hundreds of thousands of Commodores, and tens of thousands of V8s. Parts for 10-20 year old ones are easy to get. It’s the 40 year old ones that are difficult. You have a much harder time with most other brands.

Idk why people are still trying to sell 300xxx km v6 holden and xr6 fords for 5-10k 🤦‍♂️ especially when they were around 1.5k - 3k As for the v8s an ugly vx ss with 280xxx kms goes for 16k these days where's back 2 /3 years ago 8k ono i blame learner car drivers for the price raises, thinking slow cars are fast therefore its "worth heaps" 🤦‍♂️
