Gorgeous car!! If FORD didn't produce the Talladega, there would never have been wing cars. Truly glad to see this car come up. That 428 CJ stomped some ass!

Ford never built any Talladegas. Ford built Torino's and Fairlanes. The Fairlanes were sent out to Holman) Moody and they did the custom metal work.

A Dodge DAYTONA won the first race at fresh Talladega Speedway....a Talladega won the July race at Daytona...

My father had one identical to this one purchased at Long Lewis Ford in Bessemer, Alabama. Being 15 years old at the time, you can just imagine I was a happy camper. We installed a El Tigre hood tach ( bought from J.C Penney auto center) I was the one that got to drill the hole in the hood so if it was a poochscrew it was my fault. Perfect by the way!! I burned several sets of tires off this car. It would run 149 mph as measured by newly invented radar, conveniently offered by a Alabama State Trooper buddy of my dads. I grew up in the greatest era for muscle cars and rock and roll. God Bless America.

When I was in School in the late 90's we restored a 1969 Talladega over 3 years.. it was extremely rusted out. Michigan Car pulled out from behind a barn. If it wasn't a Talladega it wouldn't have been worth fixing. Lot's of companies donated parts time and services to help us out. It was sold at auction in the end

I bought 2 new front fenders for mine in in the mid 70's . They had sheet metal for this car .Mine came with drag pack SCJ ,391 open rear end and engine oil cooler .

I rode in the back seat of a 69 ford talladaga back in 1969.I was 16 years old .It was a burgandy one just like the one in this video.I was one of 4 people in it.We where drinking beer.The driver ,a friend of mine ,pulled out from a stop sign up a long slight grade on a two lane highway.As soon as he got on the highway he floored it and kept it there.The Talladaga started to spin and squeel It quickly run out low gear .and when it shifted into second ,it lurched ahead pinning me against the seat back.It was around midnight and except for the faint glow of the dash lights ,it was almost pitch black where iI was sitting in the back seat.It was like sitting in the back of a tunnel.It was scaring me.He continued to hold the pedal to the floor winding out second gear,the rear tires still squeeling and still pinning me to the seat back ..As it shifted into third gear it again lurched ahead.The car was going faster and faster I thought he might loose control of it and That was where I was going to die,as he still wasnt letting up..Nobody wore seat belts.The other two passengers started to yell at the driver to back off,Thats enough ,thats enough.He finally let of the gas.I found out a couple days later ,we where going well over 120mph.I also found out that the driver and his Dad had modified the 428 cobra jet engine to put out even more power.Its been 50 years and I still think about that night.I have owned and driven many muscle cars since but Ill always rememeber the Ford Talladaga.I might even buy one some day!

It wasn’t how many times who won what but how bad that were beat.How come you guys can’t overcome your dedication to Ford,GM,Chrysler to appreciate these old cars and a time we will never see again?

One more thing - This one was Ford's 3rd offering of a "race car built for the street." The first was the '65 Shelby GT350 through Shelby American. Second was the '69 Boss 302, followed closely by the Talladega. Ford has recently offered several dedicated race Mustangs as well as a race-spec Shelby GT350R. These are some serious competition and semi-competiton vehicles! The new "R" model is a fitting tribute to the original GT350R, which was was the awesome race-only car that the street GT350 was derived from. Chrysler was also very serious about offering a street version of their racers because of the NASCAR homologation rules.

bwaaa, what is odd as Art doesn't mention is that ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND KZbin are articles, videos, claiming the winged cars, domintated nascar, ran 200 right out of the show room, they won 75% of all the races in 1970 so nascar banned them.......so when I see them I call them on that bullshit.........Art sees that as anit Chrysler nonsense.......to me its just numbers and facts.

again art you are dreaming, the cars at highest came with a 355 axle and the street hemi developed peak power at about 5600 rpm, there online calculators you can plug that in come up with a theoretical max of about 155 mph but that doesnt account for wind so you can figure a max of 135-145, again not my opinion art just the math

The front chrome bumper was the same as the rear, but was put in a press first to give it a slight peak in the middle.

They weren't put in a press. They were cut and v'd and welded up. Mines off at the moment and you can clearly see the mods from the back side

Congrats & respect for owning one of these treasures...Are you in the midst of reworking your Talledega? This coming from a Ford guy, myself & my two sisters each starting out with Mustangs...a 66 4spd convertible 68 six-cylinder/AT notchback, a 70 302/AT notchback...

@@AndieBlack13 yes I have owned my Talladega for close to 35 years. I am the second owner of it. The bumpers were cut and v'd in the center, the sides were cut and narrowed so they would flush mount to the fenders and then the top notch that would normally go around the rear quarter panel was plugged and welded. Yes you can see the welds from the back they're not ground in any way. Every Talladega front bumper was handmade at carcraft engineering along with the rest of the car including the fenders and The rocker modifications

The bumper is in actuality a very highly modified part that is very integral to the aerodynamic front end.

@@michealwaltenberry7237 also you must make mentioned not only was it cut and welded in three different areas, but it was also shortened to make it flush with the fenders. Go out a have a look. It was highly engineered

Good job! As Edge2 Sword says, Ford DID have all the special parts available. Part numbers were published in the Ford service manuals of the day and were ordered from Ford just as any other part. This even included the "special" rocker panels. Most of these were delivered with the new 351W 4v engine, but could be ordered with all regular production power train options. Most, however, were not privately ordered. Ford had to have the cars in production by a certain date to race in NASCAR, so most Talladegas were "pushed" or hurried through to performance-oriented dealers.

There were NO talledega torinos offered with any engine other than the 428 CJ and Auto shifter on the tree. The Mercury Cyclone Spoiler was the Mercury version of the Talledega and it was ONLY offered with a 351 windsor automatic

I have long thought (for decades now) that there needs to be a much closer connection between NASCAR race cars and the street version they are supposedly based on, or represent. "Stock car racing" is where NASCAR needs to return. So yes, a "special race car version for the street". And no, forget the tape stripe package-only crap. Big engine, MANUAL transmission and aerodynamic bits. The easiest way to do this- like they used to- take a production car, and prep it for racing. And then use select components of that car to make the "special race car version for the street".

I heard from a Talladega owner that the chrome valve covers were only on the early production cars.He said he has the very first production Talladega off the line.

Correct the later ones had aluminum covers.

You are spot on with all of your facts. I commend you for your research. If I can add something important about the front bumper. It isn't exactly a rear bumper. It's cut,and welded in three different areas, secondly, it's shortened a bit to keep it flush with the fenders. Also, all Talladegas were built by Holman/Moody.

They did use a rear bumper but like you said was sectioned in 3 peices. Look under the hood you will see the welds.

@@timothythomas1737 yup. A tell tale sign. There's other ways you can tell a real deal talladega that only people like you and I can tell. By the way, I would never buy an AC Cobra. The copies out there are so good that only an AC nut can spot a fake.

@@styldsteel1 you should check out uncle Tony's Garage he goes to some fellas house that worked for Ford and h&m. He has some awesome cars he reverie. I mean I'm a Chevy/ Pontiac guy but if you don't love these cars you just don't like cars period.

still like to see a 71 pontiac t-37 or gt-37,im a big fan of the 71 gto hood scoops that go down to the front of the hood,i like how pontiac brought that hood scoop style back with the 2nd gen formula firebirds

They used a back bumper for the front but modified it. They are not interchangeable.

Yes gorgeous cars I had one in 1970 it was given to me by my neighbor he asked me if I got it running and never drive it by his house cuz his son was killed in Vietnam and his wife would not want to see the car ever again

Yes, I would buy one and yes the manufacturers did make cars very much appear like the race cars. In the eighties there was the Monte Carlo SS and the Pontiac Grand Prix Aero Coupes. Both were similar but the Monte's trunk was easier to access than the GP's. If they have made ones since then I can't remember them. Sorry.

No. No hood scoop. That would insinuate a ram inducted car. Ford lost money on all civilian Talladegas produced. Besides, it had to be similar to the nascar version. A hood scoop meant more parts added. The owner can change his car to whatever he wanted. Although with a Talladega, you keep it original.

I have a 69 cobra fastback. I heard somewhere that Ford used these cobras to make the talladega. is that true? just wondering

No. Ford sent the Fairlanes to Holman Moody race shop and they did the metal work. Ford had nothing to do with converting anything. Ford just builds cars.

Myth Hype and BS,,,,,,,everybody thinks the winged chrysler cars dominated.......Per nascar records from the two years the aero cars raced, 60 and 70.....the superspeedway total was 22 for Ford and 14 for Chrysler.......the Talledega scored the most wins with 14, its cousin the cyclone spoiler got 8.

Im a Ford guy and I've always wondered why Ford never built a BOSS 429 Torino/Cyclone. Mopar definitely was number 1 during the muscle car era in my opinion at least, followed by Pontiac and Chevrolet. Ford was definitely all in on their factory racing program but they really restricted their high performance engines in passenger cars. For example, the BOSS 429 Mustang only came with a little 735 cfm carb, a very mild camshaft for that caliber engine, and a very restrictive exhaust system with a bunch of smog equipment that wasn't even mandatory yet in 1969-70. Ford turned a car that definitely had the potential to be a high 12 to low 13 second car into a mid 14 second car that frankly was disappointing performance wise compared to Mopar 426 Hemi and 440 +6 cars. Ford built that car kind of like it was 1972 or 73 already. Not quite but almost

@@jeremythompson9895 because Larry Shinoda had to sell the 429. Because it was NADCAR raced and those were the rules. So Larry shoehorned a 429 into mustang, called it a Boss, ( marketing trick) and off to the showrooms they went. Now the boys are drooling over this car. Good guy, Larry.🤭

This is my car. TALLADEGA too sweet. The lines, the look; bold and bad! It will smoke any Chevelle LS6. If I ever get my hands on 50,000 dollars I am buying me a Talladega. That's what I want.

335bhp seems very low horsepower for a big block 428 cobra jet. Chevvy were getting 360bhp out of a 327 way back in '63.

Forget that. Ford said that to keep insurance rates down. A stock 428 delivers about 400 BHP at the wheels. Trust me. My ram inducted 428 was able to spin it's wheels at 25 mph.

Where do these goobers get their information.......the Talladega torino was NOT debuted at Talladega in 1969. It debuted in February at Daytona in 1969.
