This is definitely my idea of a luxury car. The 65 R-Code 427 Galaxie's are my favorite Ford's ever made with the exception of maybe a 66-67 R-Code 427 Fairlane. So seeing a 65 R-Code LTD is even cooler in my opinion and definitely more rare. Only 3 of these R-Code LTD's were made in 65. Such an awesome ride

Another exceptional example of a super rare factory Detroit iron, work of art. Great job explaining the history, and thanks for keeping it real. Such as, listing the eng. stats as "FT/LBs, and not the other way around. I was wondering if you were gunna mention the GM dual master cylinder. Didn't see the disk brakes. Nice car, nice job.

Super cool episode! Ltd's of this period are my out and out all time favourite cars. When I was a kid back in 70;s England, I friend of my dad had a black 1970 429 4-speed sitting on chrome Cragar;s. I remember I'd race outside whenever he drove by just to catch a glimpse and hear that fantastic soundtrack!

Was it a factory A/C car?
@Bryant19398 жыл бұрын
+Steve Holsten it being a Ltd probably was. I've only seen one Ltd that didn't have factory air. wish mine had it, to hot where I live without A/C but to much to buy the dash with the factory A/C. which are very hard to find to.

119" wheelbase, not horrible. 1966 GTO at 116' is the definition of "Muscle Car"

I'm a fan of old, fast iron. I loved em all. But I leaned, if ever so slightly to Ford, so this was a real rib tickler for me. To see this old stuff, so well preserved is a real boost, and a reminder that today's performance cars, hell, cars in general do not come off well by comparison. Yeah, todays are faster, handle better, brake better and are more comfortable. But they just don't GRAB you like that Galaxie 500 does. Or a '57 Belair, round porthole T-Bird, Roadrunner, any of the pony cars. Todays are bland.

Used to have my own 65. Black on black with that great cloth upholstery. Only mine wasn't quite such a monster. I had the 352 with stock low riser 4 bbl. If you can believe it, someone stole my tranny before I could properly identify it, but some I know thought for sure it was part of a police type interceptor package. And since the car has been gone 15+ years, no way to find out I don't think...is there? Although I do still have the original 352 block. Anyone want it?

The '65 & '66 Ford Galaxies were great looking vehicles. Hard to believe the '65 Impala was even better looking (God I hate to admit that! But they were the best looking full-size cars of the decade.).

Kevin how about doing an episode on the blue Corvair?
@MichaelM-qq4nf8 жыл бұрын
As I recall, the 427 engine was only available after 1964 as a "Dealer installed option". This is something I read someplace. Also, I believe it came with a 3mo/3,000 mile warranty. Ford did not recommend it for street use because it idled so rough and was prone to overheating in heavy traffic.
@jeremythompson98955 жыл бұрын
No the 427 was a regular production option in all mid and full size Fords
@jeremythompson98955 жыл бұрын
But it was a bit too high strung for everyday street use. The 428 Cobra Jet had way better street manners than the R-Code 427

I've always found these muscle car of the week's sedate and matter-of-factish. Probably because they're someone else's cars and all you can realistically do is read out a bunch of sanitary stats. For example, how much HP did it really put out? Take it for a ride on the highway...

Thanks for the comments. Producing this show has some challenges... the small production crew travels to the location where the cars live, and to cover the amount of footage we need to shoot in the given time period, we don't really have the time or resources to dyno the cars. Some have not had current license plates for years, so the option to do highway driving is limited by time and legalities. Others are simply too high of a risk to drive on the highways with other people. But we appreciate your feedback! Our goal was to do a show that was informative and all about the cars.

Sure, it had 425 hp, at 3000 rpm. That is a 500 hp engine all day.
