I have both Medicare and the VA for my healthcare. I recently took a fall and landed squarely on my chin, breaking 3 front teeth. And with a big gash in my chin, thinking I may need stitches, went to a local Hospital Emergency Room. Checking in, I gave them both my Medicare and VA cards. Thinking what Medicare doesn't pay, maybe the VA would. I ended up with 6 stitches and an overnight stay following a CT Scan that indicated a brain bleed from the blunt force trauma. My 15 hour stay in the ER and ICU garnered a bill totaling just over $22,000 for the ER visit, 3 hours in ICU, 2 CT Scans, a couple of band-aids and a terrible breakfast. Medicare paid $0 and the VA, through their provider TriWest, paid the entire bill. Medicare, in this case, was a big disappointment. The VA thanked me for my service. Thank you VA

I've been using VA for 45 years, including Urgent Care and ERs. Hasn't always been perfect, but I'm very grateful for them. I certainly could not have afforded all of the care that I have received, especially my meds. My eye glasses, hearing aids, and CPAP are all through VA.

I also am a veteran who has received great care.. back in the 80's it was questionable whether it would be called good care, but at least they were there when needed and a lot of my care was "farmed" out to our local clinics and hospitals in the fargo area.. the VA has been extremely good to me over the years and I have found that it is very simple to be able to get help from community care at my local clinics. I've had open heart surgery , kidney removed, eye surgery, plus many smaller things in between, including meds for the past 40 plus years.. THANK YOU FARGO?. You are the best😊.

I can say the Dr. Emergency room Dr. couldn.t speak English. It took me 3-4 hrs. to convince him to write the prescription. I finally convinced a Dr. to give me a chest ex ray. She got fired. I will say the Bay Pines VA Hospital treated me well. We call Hunter Holmes the butcher shop because the teaching hosp. med students practice operating on vets. My brother in law was asked if hears voices at the WPB VA hosp. He replied, I hear God's voice every day. The locked him up in the psych ward for 2 weeks. They let him out because patients were getting saved. My Navy best friend was turned down in NY for COPD benefits for 20 yrs. The Dr. at Bay pines said," It says right here in your medical exam when you retired that you have COPD caused by asbestos. I'm glad you found a good VA hosp.

VA Urgent Care has worked great for me. All my local CVS Care centers work seamlessly with the VA. I'm not sure what other Urgent Cares are available, but CVS works great. I'm in NC under the Salisbury VA.

VA is tops in my book. They have tested and found items that needed attention that Medicare providers missed. I have been using the VA since 1999 and have seen them get progressively get better and better. They are now as good as any civilian provider.

I have used the urgent care for my medical needs, the VA told me which one to specifically go to, it was fast, and met my medical needs, last time I went was for COVID. I have never had any issues with VA medical care, I also have civilian insurance from my job in the event, I need to be seen elsewhere... But rarely use it.

I have had very good luck with this. I got covid, very sick at a time my VA clinic was closed. They took good care of me, gave me meds, etc.and I was okay within a week. Have never ran into a clinic etc that would not honor my VA community care

I have used this service 3 or 4 times. First contact your va ang get locations uou can use, call the locations and make sure the are providers. Second call provided and make sure they accept va patients. Three are sure they take it again when you get there. Four get names. Date and time for every person you talk too. My first time I was billed, I made a couple of calls, spoke to billing manager and it got paid, with no problems since. One more thing I was billed by a third party for lab work. I told the billing manager and it was taken care of also. It's a pain but follow my steps and hopefully it works out.

I went to the patient advocate after being told I had to wait 7 months to get my eyes rechecked because the prescription for my new glasses was horribly incorrect. I needed the glasses for work. They said, I could not see a patient advocate. I asked for her name. She asked why. I said the congressman will want to know who I talked to when I write him a letter. She said Just a minute, and out of the back room comes a patient advocate. We walked to the same fella and asked for an appointment. They said 1 o'clock. It was noon. I got my new glasses in time to go to work. I also got thrown out of the Hunter Holmes Hosp. I reregistered and haven't been seen by a Dr. since.

I have tried to use urgent care unsuccessfully. One clinic I used charged me regardless of my VA access. Another clinic told me that they have not been part of the VA system for a long time. In my neighborhood, it is hard to find a clinic that will actually work with the VA system without charging me out of pocket. Unfortunately, this urgent Care system is not effectively working in my neighborhood.

I have never been able to go to anyone in Pensacola locally on the very day that I need the care. I have had to travel all the way to Biloxi or wait until I can get an appointment. FACT

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having difficulties with urgent care. I’ve used the urgent care affiliates multiple times without any issues. Now, I did have to call before going to the clinic to ensure the VA list was accurate before I went to the facility. Once I was assured, I’ve never had a problem. The clinic that I frequent even has a “Veterans are welcome here” sign in the lobby. Best of luck to you. I’m surprised at your difficulties especially in P’Cola.

I tried scheduling a PCP visit for covid like symptoms. 'Hell naw, go to the Urgent Care down the street, good to go?' It was a huge time saver as I got seen and evaluated (yeah it was covid) that same day. Just wish it was easier to know/locate in network providers for both Urgent Care Centers and Pharmacies; that's a big pain in the butt.

Some urgent care clinics are contracted by the VA. They usually have the VA symbol or placard posted somewhere. It’s best to call around so you don’t need to drive around.

Also, ask your primary VA clinic or VA hospital for a list of local urgent care and ERs in your area that take VA health care. When I moved to a new state, my new VA clinic had an orientation and gave me a list of places to go.

VA- is there a co-pay after three visits to urgent care when your primary care clinic refers or tells you to go to urgent care/that the clinic is not a walk in clinic because there are no appointments available to be seen (probably because the clinic on day one was too small for the number of veterans in the area) ? So, I am happy that I get care. I have a friend who went in with a foot problem and they took out his colon. I don't think he is happy. When you got nothing for giving all you have, sometimes if you are given a bone you might keep from starving, one might could make soup. One thing I did learn nothing is free, Not only did I pay for it with my life and service I paid for it with my taxes like everyone else. Its not the best or even close to it but its better than nothing. Happy is relative.

I tried to use the urgent cares listed from the VA search website. None of them actually take VA Healthcare. One of them was a foot doctor, not even urgent care. One of them closed years ago. The building was empty. I ended up having to pay out of pocket for denied services because the Urgent Care I ended up is a private practice. Even though the sign says urgent care AND it was listed on the VA website results.

I used urgent care as recently as August 3rd and the bill was paid the following week. My urgent care is right across the street from its related hospital. The only problem is my local VA facility no longer has urgent care and emergency room care. If anything arises I am always told to go to urgent care. Fine, if it's to stitch up a cut, but for continued are the VA comes up short. I needed follow-up care which is non-existent with the VA. The wait time to get integrated into the system to see a specialist is months. I used my Medicare/Blue Cross supplement with a private doctor. And, there is a limit on the number of times a vet can see an outside urgent care. So, when Senator Murray extols the greatness of the VA and continuation of care, it's limited to Seattle VA, not American Lake.

Not true. I had a sciatic nerve pain to where I couldn't walk on the Friday afternoon of Memorial weekend. Called the VA and they wouldn't let me go to a local urgent care, and told me I had to drive to Palo Alto - I live in Santa Cruz. On a good day it's an hour, but the Friday of Memorial weekend with the bay area traffic - to long. If I couldn't walk, how was I supposed to drive that far?

Read your statement carefullly. Usually at the top it says "THIS IS NOT A BILL". What the provider charges and what the VA pays are two different things. When I get a bill like that the provider is accepting the VA's $100 as payment in full. The new credit reporting laws don't allow medical bills on your credit report. Just don't pay it and tell the jagoffs trying to collect not to call.

The VA pays Medicare Rates if the diagnostic grouper indicates the pay out for the care provided is $100 only, then that is what the VA pay and the Veteran can not be billed for the difference.

I am a USAF DAV and am treated way WAY better on the welfare i went on than the VA EVER treated, and i am talking SINCE 1989. Joined for four years and am suffering still after surgery in '08, and now at 57 a bigger drag. i work thru the pain, live with it, but welfare is WAY better than the VA could ever HOPE to be. Which is WHY they are letting you go out of their "network" for things that will get attention WAY faster than waiting 2 months for an appointment anyway. I am unemployable, and at 40% and should be 50% so i can actually ACCESS more things, but NOOOOOOOOO. Thank you Obama and Biden, with out you MEDICAL would STILL be connected to a JOB!!!!

Wow here in southern California VA is awesome. Never waited 2 months. My doctor is all over me! They found cancer and because it was early I had many options. Specialty care is awesome also. I have a team that stays on top of it. When Trump was in office he made some big changes!!

Also told me that my stomach problem was GERD and that I needed to take Omeprazole for the rest of my life. MRI from welfare doctor revealed to torn Rotator cuffs. Then after my cat scan with contrast they saw that I had to gallstones stuck in the neck of my gallbladder. So I had to have my gallbladder taken out. I love the VA takes blood searches it for drugs and then confront you about it even though you told him that you smoke weed. And that you have a state license to smoke weed. They are morons!. Their leader the president is telling everyone weed is going to be legal in the VA is still a bunch of assholes.

Remember to vote for the party that passed the expansion of VA benefits, not the one who opposed them. Look up the votes for the PACT Act if you are unsure. Project 2025 wants to strips VA benefits down to nothing but physical combat injuries at best.

They discontinued Urgent Care at American Lake in Washington State. It has caused nothing but problems. Trying to used the community Urgent care Providers is very difficult. They will treat you for the most part. If they can figure things out. Even when they are supposed to be in the VA approved network. But then they harrass the crap out of you to pay the bill. There is always a problem. They will send you to collections. They constantly call, email, and send bills and letters demanding payment. Even when you get a letter from the VA saying they paid the bill. It's happened every time. Every thing has gotten worse in the last several years. I heard lots of Vets complaining about problems. Never had a single issue until all the bulkshit changes in the the last couple if years. Problems getting appointments. Problems getting meds. Problems with everything. What the hell us going on. No response from patient advocates. When I do get to see my doctors. They have been great. It's all the bureaucracy

I have resorted to treating MYSELF because Cavhcs (Montgomery, Al) system is so bad. No one knows anything and half the time they literally hang up on you or simply don't answer at all. And when they do send you outside for the care, better make sure you are pre-qualified or get billed like I did. " that shouldn't happen"-but it did. I am also 100% and can't get care.

😂this only works if you call the va first, they give you a referral number, and urgent care agrees to take va patients. Most urgent care providers will not work with the va because va pays medicare equivalent rates, and by law the patient pays zero just like community care. Find an urgent care that is part of a hospital system for better chance of service.

Just call your local VA even after hours. There are nurses that answer the phone and in many cases they will give you a referral #. Do call that urgent before you get there or you may be responsible for the bill. If it was me, I would still go to emergency because a lot of Urgent Care facilities are independently owned unless the Urgent Care office is adjacent to a larger medical provider. Urgent Care benefits work great since I’m far from a VA center, but the pharmacy end really needs to be straightened out. Pharmacies you say are in-network say they aren’t, particularly Walmart. We need some better communication.

Nobody at VA has EVER sent me a list or told where these places are nearest me, it is URGENT medical care that we’re talking about? so, i do not have time or possibly connection to look it up … call VA and ask? riiiiiiiight. so yeah, you did not say where they are. i want a LIST sent to me. @@tedrogers4643 You know, the VA is socialized medicine. You have to do your due diligence to achieve the care that you want to receive. It’s your responsibility for your healthcare. There is an interactive website that you provide your zip code and it will show you the list of urgent care clinics that work with VA. However, I do understand that it’s much more reasonable to sit back and complain that you can’t get the VA to do anything for you.

While they can make videos - like I stated: NEVER has VA sent out any list. that would be VA not telling you where their own services are. … btw, 10 years ago VA sent out a wallet card: Veteran Choice. I keep it in my wallet just to prove to people that Trump didn’t start community care. But the card is good for nothing and never was nobody ever wants to see that card and it doesn’t get me into any kind of medical care or clinic- just like this video doesn’t. Don’t point at the messenger.

Jerks one time I used urgent care had no clue how to bill VA as though they thought it was a nightmare dealing with them. This after I provided them with the flyer. Somebody else came to offer a hand but the young clerks up front had no clue and were worthless.

Im sorry but you make this sound lickety split easy....😂😂. 1. The VA website is useless at telling WHICH urgent care centers are authorized 2. You are required to print off this flimsy billing information sheet & hope the agency will deal with it. 3. I'm a retired RN who also worked at the VA after retiring as a Navy 06. To this day they continue to roll out half baked, poorly designed programs. DO NOT market this unless you provide -explicit guidance on where to go -how billing works You're just a he messenger but baaaad misleading information will result in older confused veterans owing huge bills & running to the VA for reimbursement 🫤

@@Retiredtraveler1961 Oh, I realize that it’s not upfront and easy hence the term “due diligence.” However, once you get into the system and asking the correct questions, it’s a breeze. Consequently, I’m pretty darn savvy and smart because I’m able to get the government to work for me. Here’s a kicker, I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield with TRICARE as my supplemental and I PREFER to go to the VA. Why? Because I will receive impartial care from the VA and I’m not a financial number with insurance companies.

5th Marines Laos 1969 FireBase Maxwell survivor have had good and successful experience with 3 separate Comm Care procedures then the 4th encountered lab charge because the Urologist ofc disliked VA didn't supply VA code to lab but after calling alerting them all was cleared up. While you are not needing medical care is the time to locate the ER and Urgent Care that claim to be VA friendly then verify with VA.
