We just came back from there and it was the noisiest vacation ever 🤣 but we made the best of it. Like the lady said, it would have been nice if Hilton gave us a heads up before coming because we pay our hard earned money to go on vacation, so the guests matter too. And the workers matter, Hilton please pay them what is fair!!! Hawaii is an expensive place to live and the level of homelessness there was truly shocking. If they aren’t getting paid properly, and can’t afford to pay bills, I can understand why homelessness is high. It was an absolutely beautiful place to visit, but the people need to get paid fairly!!! They need the ILA longshoremen union head honcho working on their behalf. Their strike lasted only a couple days and got a deal. Hilton pay your workers the money they are due!!!!

Im glad u r commenting facts. There are many uneducated people who are judgmental on the strike and the workers thinking they only want higher wages for their contract (the increase wages won't probably even be much of a dent to what a fair share to their workers would be... i bet). Shoot, this is a large and top hotel in the hotel industry its time for more workers to stand up and be allies with each other and fight for whats right... Stop being scared of change, especially after prices are going up every year in Hawai'i and wages aren't balancing out to what the economy is looking like. Soo much hate, jealousy, and uneducated comments that are blinding these other locals and people to think that these workers are striking just to have higher wages. Its more than that, it ain't simple bruh theres more complexity to this strike. They are also trying to pave the way on pointing out that "One job should be enough". You guys want to work multiple jobs in this day of age??? They trying to make a difference or be a voice for the middle class and below. @@stanmuneoka8117 I am not sure what you are talking about on how both the locals and wealthy will not be able to live here. If you are already wealthy, you will most likely thrive for a long time. Don't you understand? They are striking bc they want to try to fight for a wage that can compete with the current inflation. In fact, the ripple effect will help other variety of jobs to balance out to the current economy that was affected by countless things, and the "Covid Era" is one of it. The effects of wage increases in one sector can be complex and vary based on local economies and industries. Generally, successful labor movements tend to push for broader wage improvements, but the overall impact can depend on how businesses and economies respond. Positive Effects: Wage Growth Across Sectors: If hotel workers successfully negotiate higher wages, it could lead to increased wage expectations in other low-wage sectors, prompting employers to raise wages to remain competitive and retain workers. Increased Consumer Spending: Higher wages mean more disposable income for workers, which can boost local economies. This increased spending can benefit businesses in various sectors. Improved Working Conditions: Successful labor movements often bring attention to the need for better working conditions, which can inspire similar efforts in other industries. Negative Effects: Inflationary Pressure: If wages rise significantly, businesses might pass those costs onto consumers through higher prices, potentially leading to inflation in the short term.

It’s laughable how the CEOs pay always gets brought up during strikes. Not one person out there striking has any idea what it takes to be a CEO. Sadly thats why they strike, it still will take a lot more for those hotel workers to fight for what is fair in this current down hill economy and increased inflation from the affects of the "Covid Era" and other events...The hotel workers looking to get better staffing and a higher wage just to compete with the current down hill economy is just whats fair to them, especially since the hotel owners took advantage and made record profits during and after Covid era. The hotel management/CE/higher class are thriving so why not share that to their working class and provide efficient staffing to improve hospitality...The hotel owners can predict when the economy gets hit and when inflations go up. I'm sure they hire economists and smart people to predict when they lose/can make profits during good current events and bad current events in the world, to make sure they prepare for bad times like the recession, from the Covid era.. And sadly they hire scabs to take real hotel workers jobs and keep the hotel business flowing like its a normal day, but it really isn't. The hotel owners most likely prepare for the times when the hotel union workers are close to an end of contract, bc a strike may occur. Yet they cheat their guests by not telling them when a strike may likely occur. They could also potentially pay their scabs a bit more bc it looks like a nice price but the hotel owners/management are still profiting off of it and scamming their scabs bc they don't offer any benefits. Those scabs think they are making a good amount, but they are losing on health benefits, etc, and instead fall for the higher classes tricks. And now those scabs have a name on them for taking those hotel workers jobs while on strike...for their own right to do so.

While the first week wasn't too disruptive, it has escalated and become louder and grown in size. Now, hotel guests are doing their own protest, shouting at the front desk, demanding refunds and complaining about the substandard service. I appreciate the importance of the protests for fair wages and understand that no one should have to work multiple jobs to make ends meet. However, I am concerned about the disruption these protests are causing in our community. While the intention is to raise awareness, the noise and chaos-especially during late hours-are affecting both residents and tourists. If the protesters could adhere to quiet hours and focus their activities between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., they would likely gain more support from the community. Respecting the surrounding area would show a commitment not only to their cause but also to those who live and vacation here. We all want to see fair wages, but the current approach is turning support into frustration. Many families, including those with newborns, are struggling to cope with the noise from megaphones and drums late into the night. This has led to some family members, who we haven’t seen in years due to COVID restrictions, adjusting their plans to leave Hawaii early because the protests have become a nuisance. If the Hilton decides to raise wages, it will likely lead to higher room rates, affecting everyone involved. Additionally, beachgoers and surfers are finding it difficult to access parking because protesters are taking up the available spaces. There must be a better way for us to unite for change without disrupting the community’s peace. Where has the spirit of Aloha gone? In challenging times, we should come together, but instead, this situation seems to be causing greater division in Hawaii. Let’s work towards solutions that benefit both workers and the community as a whole. Aloha is a way of life, it's a spirit we carry in us, no matter where we go.
@showaloha2 ай бұрын
I agree, with your point on a better way for everyone to "unite for change", but that will take a FAR LARGER movement to make that change in Hawai'i and that is to protest for changes in laws in Hawai'i and researching on politicians and vote for the best choice of politician. In regards to protesting/striking, if the strikers are peacefully protesting what else do you want them to do??? The most effective way to get the Hilton management/CEO attention is to create a sense of presence (chanting) around their domain and letting their guests know the current events of the strike. Everyday there will be new guests that are uneducated on the current event of the "Hilton Hotel strikes and many more to come from other hotel workers"... In any type of protest/strike there will always have to be some form of discomfort of change during those times such as the chanting of the workers striking around the Hilton owned hotel areas. If they are protesting/striking peacefully with no harm, who say to make them stop chanting to make sure every guests knows that they want better staffing and wages based off their struggle through Covid, while Hilton made record profits even after cutting staff and raising prices. All of that from Hilton was most likely calculated and planned to make sure they won't lose much from the recession, instead they made record profits during a recession while cutting staff. They cut staff and made everything harder for the workers and even made hospitality quality go down hill with the lack of workers to keep the workflow smoother. Then after Covid Era has passed, more guests are coming back to travel and now it is a great opportunity that their contract expired at around June and Hilton has yet delayed discussing a negotiation for a new contract, till now. So they fight for what is fair, for themselves and for better quality hospitality and work flow (better staffing). If anyone is jealous so be it, they are a union and they have the right to do so and I support locals in the middle class to fight for what they can to be able to afford to live a fair life in Hawai'i.

Just close the hotel for two weeks hire a cleaning crew to clean 🧼 repair whatever needs repairing, but what ever you do don’t let those strikers back into the building
