Their credibility hasn't decreased but has in fact greatly increased over the years using this format. "Putting it on the shoulders of 1 doctor" is a strawman. Hotez could absolutely "lose the debate", but if his positions were in fact correct and just poorly articulated, any knowledgeable expert could use the recorded interview as a basis for a video, demonstrating how what RFK Jr. said is wrong and what Hotez maybe should have said in response. If RFK Jr. is full of crap then he would be making recorded statements that could at any future point be held against him. So why is he so eager to do this but Hotez is scared?

Debating conspiracy theorists is an exercise in futility partly because of one thing - the "Gish gallop". Simply put, you out-talk your opponent by proposing a flood of weak, faulty arguments and pretend you won when your opponent doesn't have the time to debunk everything you've said. Since the "galloper" isn't beholden to facts, they can spew a near unlimited amount of nonsense and seem knowledgeable, especially to an uneducated audience. The galloper's opponent is almost hamstrung by being loyal to honesty and objectivity and can be made to look unprepared or unqualified because they may not have the information readily available to debunk all of the galloper's "arguments" - arguments the galloper didn't really need to prepare for since they're made up nonsense.

And another thing. RFK Jr.'s claim to fame is his 2005 article essentially claiming that thimerosol in vaccines caused autism. It's been 18 years, thimerosol has been out of most vaccines for 22 years, and yet autism diagnoses haven't dropped at all. In fact, it's the opposite. RFKJ's also a lawyer. Not a doctor, not a biologist, not anyone who could be even remotely qualified to talk about any of this. In short, RFKJ is a moron who has indirectly murdered people through promoting anti-vax conspiracies. The info showing this is *everywhere*. There is no need to debate him. There *is* a need to reverse this destructive wave of anti-intellectualism that has kneecapped our attempts to do anything not stupid. If it sounds like I'm losing my patience, it's because I am.
