VaccineNation Interview with Melanie Saville - WVCEU 2024

At the World Vaccine Congress in Barcelona, we had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Melanie Saville, Chief Scientific Officer at PATH. Dr. Saville highlighted PATH’s mission to drive health equity through partnerships and innovation, emphasizing the critical need for collaboration and an end-to-end approach to vaccine development-right from research to deployment.
In panels on bio-threat preparedness and immunization equity, Dr. Saville championed the product development partnership model, which brings together philanthropy, government, academia, and private sector innovation to ensure vaccines are developed with affordability and access in mind. She shared success stories like malaria vaccines developed for Africa, where traditional industry models would fall short.
Reflecting on local manufacturing challenges, Dr. Saville stressed the importance of focusing on drug substance production and tech transfer agreements to build sustainable capacity without overproduction risks.
