Just finished up doing this to my 2015 GMC Sierra Denali 4WD. It was much harder since it was 4 wheel drive. There is no way to access the rear bolts from the bottom at all because of the 4 WD components. You have to access both of them from the top. The only way to do that is to remove the bottom section of the steering column. Still very difficult to reach. Just an FYI for those that have 4WD on their truck. And I love the ending of your video! LOL. Made my chuckle after being so frustrated with this truck.

Awesome assessment and explanation of the problem / solution. GM really screwed the pooch on these newer trucks and SUVs from the A/C system design (which will fail because the factory condenser won’t hold the pressure), to this braking issue. I’ve also had problems from my 4WD switch and my drivers seat will adjust itself randomly at times. Thanks for the helpful and entertaining video. Thanks for the video, it was helpful. Fair warning though for others that the 4 Wheel Dr. version is much more difficult because the differential blocks most of your view of the bolts. you will want to swivel ratchets and many combinations of extensions and or swivels in order to make it work and a lot of patience but it can be done. also do not buy the belt removal tool from Napa because it is garbage and does not work, nor does the belt installation tool that is part of the same kit. The tool on Amazon looks different maybe its ok. good luck!

I am having the opposite problem. the petal goes to the floor. I have changed pads, Rotars, and master cylinder. Took it to another mechanic and he is saying the issue is this vacuum pump.
@geesehoffa2144
@geesehoffa2144 5 жыл бұрын
You can borrow vacuum pressure off the intake manifold and run it into the master cylinder. No need for the pump. I did it to my 2017 Tahoe. Only thing is the brake pedal sometimes feel like you are on snow at very low speeds (I drive in NYC), but the truck stops no problem as if it had the original pump working. It’s a permanent fix if you don’t mind the once in a while kickback in the brake, or a temp fix until your part arrives but can still confidently operate the truck knowing you can stop no problem.
@geesehoffa2144
@geesehoffa2144 5 жыл бұрын
If you get the right tubing there’s no kickback in the braking, my tubing forks off towards the, so the vacuum pressure isn’t precise to stop the occasional kickback, but good enough for “on the dime” stoping.
@pianistasalsero
@pianistasalsero 5 жыл бұрын
Good luck with that. I would not recommend it.
@geesehoffa2144
@geesehoffa2144 5 жыл бұрын
Thinking about it - I’m better off with my repair. Your pump will go out again, my intake vacuum will last the life of the car. Can’t risk the pump failing at another 50k miles at the wrong time. Traditionally the vacuum pressure is taken from intake manifold anyway. No pump needed.
@pianistasalsero
@pianistasalsero 5 жыл бұрын
@@geesehoffa2144 if you read more about the breaking problem, you may be able to generate enough vaccum from the engine, however, when it goes into 4 cylinder mode, the vaccum decreases not providing enough for proper braking. I was told the new pumps are much better.
@geesehoffa2144
@geesehoffa2144 5 жыл бұрын
Oddly enough when my pump went out and I didn’t have the manifold work-around I didn’t have any braking issues. It was only at lower speeds (less than 10MPH), basically city driving where lots of “stop and go” happens. I asked my dad about it (he’s a mechanic with 50+ years of experience) and he told me the engine rev increased the vacuum pressure even though the pump was broken. So at stop and go speeds the engine is working in v8, it’s only v4 when you coast. I honestly don’t notice any difference in stopping power in neither the city or highway, if anything on the highway the car braking is working as if the pump never went out at all. And again I drive in NYC - it’s absolutely hell here for driving.

How did you determine that it was the pump and not the booster? From what I can see I do not have any oil leaking under the pump or in the hose line. I disconnected the hose line like you said and did not hear and pressure being relieved. I have a 2014 Silverado. The brake peddle would harden up but with giving it RPMs the peddle would soften. Today the brakes are rock hard even with giving it RPMs. Did you happen to experience any of these problems?

The problem of GM engines has become annoying and the engine is already old Maybe since 2000 GM hasn't changed and Ford and GM must change their engine policies and collaborate with the Germans and Japan to make long-running engines in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. The American engine was a legend until it was crushed by Japanese engines that live for many years without maintenance We have in Saudi Arabia great interest in the Japanese engine and its development to make engines for military equipment as well as fun in desert cars
