Vacuum pumps could be risky to use. If you've ever used a vacuum pump and noticed numbness or difficulty achieving erections, you may have experienced nerve damage. My name is Dr. med. Dr. phil. Stefan Buntrock, a board-certified urologist and sexologist from Göttingen. In this video on UroChannel, I will shed light on the potential risks of vacuum pumps. While these devices are generally safe when used correctly, improper use can lead to significant problems, including damage to the dorsal nerve of the penis.
Symptoms of nerve damage from overstretching include numbness, pain, tingling sensations, and difficulty maintaining erections. Though vacuum pumps are the oldest and often effective erection aids, they can cause long-term or permanent damage if misused, particularly for individuals with normal penile anatomy. The dorsal nerve, part of the pudendal nerve, is crucial for penile sensation and function. This nerve splits into numerous branches, with about 16,600 fibers running through the penis. These nerves must withstand significant stretching during erections, and excessive force from a vacuum pump can lead to neuropraxia or even more severe nerve injuries.
To use a vacuum pump safely, start slowly, avoid prolonged use, and never use the constriction ring for more than 30 minutes. Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines and use medically approved devices. If damage has already occurred, the nerve may take weeks to months to recover, and more severe cases could take up to a year. Treatments like shockwave therapy and extracorporeal magnetotransduction therapy show promise in nerve regeneration, but they are not yet standard procedures and require professional medical supervision.

Before sharing this, I will point out that my company does not sell penis chambers. My company produces penis vacuum chambers. The key is to make the diameter very near or slightly over the size of the erect shaft so that the internal penis components are not stretched outside normal erect dimensions. No radial stretch. The sad part of this story is that hundreds of penis vacuum devices are promoted as growing the penis, while including very large diameter chambers. One problem area is that no company sells a penis chamber that is 1 7/8 (1.875) inches inside diameter. 1.75 and 2.0 inside diameter chambers are readily available. The jump between those sizes is a 31% volume increase, which is a very big step. We have to get that size custom extruded in orders of 500 feet. The cost for a custom penis chamber is over $200 so it's never going to appear on Amazon. We do not sell them and I do not know who does.

Vacuum pumps are an established form of therapy and have a place in sexual medicine. But: obviously there are some major drawbacks in rare cases. So men with normal function should have these risks in mind.
