We discuss the three different models available in the USA and the single model available in Canada. Each model comes with a different set of tools and accessories and we show what’s in the box. We also walk through each tool and accessory, and we highlight that the manual is not included but one can be found online (or at the bottom of the review on our website vacuum-cleaner-advisor.com).
In terms of packaging, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that everything was paper or cardboard. There was no plastic used at all, which was a nice touch.
We show how to use the hose and wand, and how to attach and detach tools. We describe the hose and wand and measure the length of the extension hose when fully stretched out. We also highlight that using the hose and wand can be a little awkward.
The vacuum has two main controls: power on/off and brushroll on/off. The brushroll on/off is handy as you may want to turn the brushroll off when vacuuming hard or delicate flooring.
The cleaner head on the Animal 3 is very different from the cleaner head on the older Dyson Ball Animal 2 and it has some features we have not seen on a Dyson upright before. Dyson has added de-tangling technology which ensures limited hair tangle in the brushroll. We show the brushroll and the de-tangle vanes inside the cleaner head. There is also a suction slider on the front of the cleaner head that operates two gates (bottom front of cleaner head) and two inlets (top front of cleaner head). The suction slider has three settings: Left, Middle, and Right. We discuss the best suction slider settings for different cleaning situations.
We perform a number of cleaning tests on the Dyson Ball Animal three and we show and discuss each test. In the carpet test we place fine, small, and medium size debris on low pile carpet and pass the vacuum over it. We perform a similar test on tile flooring. We also test pickup on very deep pile carpet (about 1-inch deep pile).
We place short white pet hair and long black human hair on the carpet in order to test the de-tangle technology in the cleaner head. We also perform an edge cleaning test.
The vacuum is hefty and we show how it moves and turns compared to the Dyson Ball Animal 2. We discuss the weight of the Dyson Ball Animal 3 and how it compares to a host of other uprights. We also used a digital noise level meter to determine peak decibel output of the vacuum. We were surprised to learn that the Animal 3 was quieter than the Animal 2. We also discuss noise levels of a host of other uprights for comparison purposes.
We show where the two filters on the vacuum are located and discuss the advantages of a HEPA grade post motor filter. We also show how to access the HEPA filter which resides in the ball mechanism.
In a short section we discuss the differences we discovered between the Dyson Ball Animal 2 and the Dyson Ball Animal 3, and we quickly summarize our findings and opinion of the vacuum.

I have a Dyson Ball Animal 3 that I purchased 9/24/22. I’ve had to replace 3-4 parts already! This is my 3rd Animal vac. I still have my very first one and it stays in a different part of the house so I don’t have to navigate stairs and carry the vac. The 2nd one I had for several years then it started having parts break after the warranty expired. It was cheaper to buy a new one than to put money in it bc the parts are expensive. This new one is not made with quality materials. I take care of my vac but I do use them a lot, 5-6 days a week. I have never had to use the warranty until I got this vac. The power this vac has is awesome and it’s great for getting up pet fur and other debris. I don’t know what I’ll do after the warranty runs out. I’m really disappointed in how the parts keep breaking. I may have to switch vac brands after this one’s warranty expires bc to pay this much for a vac and have the trouble I’ve been having is really unacceptable.

Excellent and thorough review. Seeing the roller bar being removed for easy cleaning was a huge plus for me. Our dog hair gets tangled with every vacuum. I am sending back my brand new shark because it couldn’t handle the dog hair.

I’ve owned it for over a year now and I recommend sliding the brush roll out every now and then to capture the hair and debris that can get caught up on the plastic spindle on the left side of the cleaner head.

@@timothyandrewnielsen Definitely! It’s an amazing deep cleaner and it’s surprisingly low maintenance (minus the brushroll, which doesn’t tangle hair but does capture dust on the left side spindle.)

This was a great review however my experience with deep pile rugs was the exact opposite, I could not push my Animal 3 forward on our Ikea Vollerslev deep pile rug (Thickness: 1 ¼ "), the combination of the power of suction and deep carpet made it impossible to push. I'm only able to pull the unit backwards which is less effective. I've resorted to using our v10 for the deep pile, while the Animal does everything else

I have the bissel allergen lift off and the animal ball 3. While it’s cool the bissel has led lights it’s kinda pointless when majority of the time I’m vacuuming during the day.

the manual wasn’t very helpful for me. i watched your video and noticed you had a little trouble getting the 3 to stand. I had the same issue. I called because I couldn’t figure out based on the manual what i wasn’t doing right. Not knowing what i was doing wrong, they explained there’s a bent piece on mine, so they’re sending a new piece. but after a while they said i’m supposed to push down on the small elevated wheels to engage standing mode. is this correct? I didn’t notice you pushing the wheels down to engage standing.

hey i got my pet ball 3 as a replacement because my petbball 2 exploded. well i got the new one a few weeks ago, has a lot of suction, suckedup 4 cats 2 dogs and a horse..well i got them all out of the canister. then they all ran off andhid under beds in walls. then i tried it on my carpet. well here we go again. sucked up 30 yards of carpet. and it then took off dug a hole in the basement and went so deep? it suckedup 6 chinese from china. works fair

I've been considering getting a Dyson Ball Animal 3 for our one-story home, which has four carpeted bedrooms...we have a Dyson V11 Outsize and love it with the swappable batteries for extended run time, but I'm wondering what your thoughts are about deep cleaning and if the V11 is a worthy upright replacement for our medium pile carpet for a larger home, or if an upright is still a good option to have on deck for deeper cleaning. At any rate, thanks for doing what you do!

As someone with both machines, I'd highly recommend the 3. The V11 is great at deep cleaning for a cordless, but still not quite as good as a full upright, so havimg the 3 for your weekly deep cleans and the V11 for daily cleanups is a great combo

I'd say keep your outsize. It's perfect for your home n unless ur home constantly has ppl n animals with muddy feet walking around. Then I'd say u can buy the animal 3 for the super super duty tasks

Just watched your very thorough review, thanks for that. I used my new Dyson for the first time yesterday and I have to say I am disappointed and considering returning. I have a DC65 that is 10 years old and was purchased because I have neck and back problems and it was easy to maneuver. However, the animal 3 is quite the opposite! I could not even finish one room as I was in pain from trying to push it. Watched some suggestions on how to make it easier to push but not sure any would work. Would you have any suggestions before I send this thing back?

I agree it is very difficult to push with the head that comes on it and I was about ready to send mine back when I was just perusing their website and came across something called " easy to push cleaner replacement head" . I had to call in to order it and the agent didn't know anything about it but it has a different set up that allows more air to pass through and while unfortunately it is an additional cost, he was able to take 20 or 30% off for me. It's a night and day difference. I feel like I'm still getting a very good clean but yet I can actually move it across my floors without breaking into a sweat.

Your review was great and I ordered this vacuum based on information on the Dyson website and also your reviews. But the vacuum arrived dented and scratched! The machine I received should never passed quality control or been shipped. Also, the handle is really thin, flimsy plastic. I had to return to Dyson and am still waiting for a refund. I was looking forward to receiving this vacuum and am terribly disappointed. 😢

I have a Dyson 2018 and I would never buy another one. It just pushes dirt around and pulls my rugs apart. The suction is powerful I have to pay attention to my rugs.

I just bought this and it's my 1st Dyson. I've been with Shark for 10 plus years but have wanted to give it be a try. I'm not real happy with the fact that I can't vacuum under beds, or anytime low. I never thought about that but I'm disappointed. Other than that, I've not had it but 2 weeks. Great review, really appreciate! * Edited to add that I'm not too happy with the noise and I hate the air blowing from the top of the handle? Maybe it's the operator 🤣

@@BAM5636 I can only speak for myself but I was expecting a little more at this price tag. The biggest complaint I have is not being able to vacuum under my bed, etc. The large ball hinders, I do not like where the power button is located, it doesn't always lock in when you put it upright therefore falls- the red handle does feel very cheap/flimsy. It's much louder than my last Shark (which I've owned for years) not easy to push. I'm seriously considering returning and just going back to Shark 👍 but that's just me.
