How to vacuum a swimming pool to waste using a sand filter

I only vacuum on waste if it’s really bad. Instead I’ll vacuum on filter then backwash and rinse afterwards. That way I’m not losing a lot of water in the pool, and still getting crap out of the filter and pool

No, you're wasting water .Vacuuming the pool with the sandfliter and pump is normal. Then, after you're done, empty basket at skimmer and pump. Then back wash the fliter for 2-3 mins. Then, turn pump off. Switch filter to rinse cycle for 30 seconds to 1 minute

U vacuum in waste mode? I thought your supposed to vacuum in filter mode?

With algae you want to vacuum to waste because it’ll just come back in the pool. When vacuuming leaves or debris filter mode is fine. Sand filters aren’t the best at filtering which is why the guy in the video is using waste mode

Or go buy a robot. They are the best. Set it and forget it. Doesnt do a good job in the hour and half. Turn it on..run it again lol its sweet

You dont need to wait for the heater to be cool. And there is a valve to shut off the m.d..

Ok, found this video by complete accident. Opened my pool a few days ago, got it cleaned up and chemicals perfect by the end of the day. That night I shocked it and scrubbed the entire pool. Day 2, I vacuumed the pool but it seemed a little cloudy (for the first week I keep the filter running 24/7). Checked chemicals, all good. Day 3, water is crystal clear but there’s this stuff at the bottom of the deep end, like shown in the video. I vacuum again but then immediately backwash the filter as soon as I was finished. Day 4, water is crystal clear, chemicals are perfect but there’s about half the amount of the same stuff at the bottom of the deep end. I’m guessing I need to vacuum to waste to get rid of all of it. I’m glad I stumbled across this video, thank you for sharing!

Yes vacuuming to Waste should take care of it and if you have alot of stuff in the air like we do here with pollen you might have to do it once a week being the sand filters seem to have an issue filtering out that small of debris. Thanks for watching!

Of all the vacuum videos I've watched, you're the only one to tell us to turn off the main drain, THANK YOU. Having both the main drain and skimmer both open drains the water so fast you will lose half your pool water in the process.

It's algae bloom starting yup put enough chlorine of course you put enough chlorine stabilizer right?

Yes stabilizer was in check 40ppm

I believe that pool hose is a 45 foot OREQ

Yeah this is a lot of work I have a cartridge filter and I just got to pull I'd like to do this but I guess it's the only for inground??

Most of the time this process is done with a sand filter only. You have to have a drain bypass on a cartridge filter

so on a cart filter, you just vacuum to the carts and clean them every 4-6 months, so set the hose up in pool and start vacuuming to the skimmer.

@@nagel133 I mean for me I just get a robot vacuum that cleans the floor and eventually obviously probably after the Summer's over probably like in October I will check and clean the filter with a hose

Why do we need to turn heater off before turning off pump?

Just incase it's been running for a long period and is Hot. Prevents steam in you heat exchange.

I can’t get a suction on my vacuum in waste mode. Any idea why?

Most likely the drain is still on and most of your suction will occur in the least resistant line such as the drain when you add 20 plus feet of vacuum hose to the skimmer.

If you have two skimmers make sure you plug or close off by valve the second skimmer

You should fill pool with water so you have more time to vacuum before your skimmers start running dry
