I would much rather each vacuum get a rating (say 1 to 10 or 1 to 5) for each category than simply awarding a point to the one that might be very slightly better. Not only would this compare more accurately, but it would allow people to compute their own weighted scores based on how much they value each of the individual categories.

One thing that I feel should be mentioned is the ability to buy replacement parts from the OEM and whether or not the OEM provides guides on how to repair your device. I say this as my 5 years old roomba has been cleaning 4x a week for the last 5 years and the one or two times something had broken, it was simple and easy to get a replacement part and replace it myself. I’m not familiar with Roborock but it would be nice to add to your comparisons.
@calvinl21493 жыл бұрын
Because of working from home during covid, battery life can be more important because of noise. With my i7+, it can finish vacuuming my entire apartment if I go out to buy lunch or run an errand. Unfortunately the S9+ can't do the same job in one run so often needs to be run while I'm at home and the noise can be bothersome. Not only does the S9+ need to recharge in the middle of cleaning, but it runs significantly slower than my i7+ too.

I just ordered a roborock s7 (without empty dock) yesterday. Haven't watched this yet, but hoping it doesn't convince me I made the wrong decision... Couple reasons I went with the s7 is the mopping (I have all tile downstairs) and that it's bagless... I'll get a Roomba to replace my current roomba for upstairs (which is all carpet). From what I seen so far, roomba is better for carpets.

How about finding a way to test their HEPA filtration system? A vacuum is only as good as it's ability to prevent the particles from becoming airborne.
@jjayguy233 жыл бұрын
True, but remember these tiny vacuums have only a fraction of the suction that upright versions have. Less airflow, means a regular filter might be enough. To help combat the lack of HEPA filters, I make sure to run Air Purifiers in my house. My robot vacuum doesn’t aggregate my allergies, and it doesn’t have HEPA.

Yeah I think the S7 auto empty dock (EU bagless version) will take the point if you ever get to test it. So many people have always wanted a bagless version due to the amount of pet hair their robots pick up daily. Myself included, plus the S9+ here in australia is like $2k+ its a little overpriced comparatively for international markets.

@@ratcliffe1992 I don't have the dock but have thought about it. I have debated getting it since there is not a bagless version in the US and the dock is pricey. Hoping it will decrease since the S7 Max Ultra will be coming out soon. I empty the S7 bin but I hate when the dust gets over my fingers and is flying everywhere in the trash bag/air even with just a small amount that was vaccumed. Did you notice any issues when emptying the auto emptying bin/canister since it is bagless? Is it true that with the bagged version you can't see how much dirt it picks up and once you take the bag out it breaks?
@victorc91953 жыл бұрын
@vacuum wars I think you missed two big points regarding the Roborock…..one being that it has no bin-full sensor. It’s an issue because the bot sometimes fails to empty itself after a job because the alignment is sometimes off when it autodocks. This has a cascading effect because it results in the next job starting with a potentially full bin. It was getting to the point that I had to check the bin to make sure it emptied almost every time because otherwise the bot didn’t clean at all, it just wandered around with a full bin. The other issue with a mop/vac combo is that because the bot has a water tank, it inevitably has a smaller dust bin. The issue is again exacerbated by the fact that it doesn’t have a bin full sensor, so the possibility of the bin maxing out during a cleaning run and doing nothing for the rest of the session is very real….these were kind of deal breakers that def give the edge to iRobot in my opinion.
@alex84493 жыл бұрын
Not really you can just schedule a few rooms and it'll auto empty then just have a separate schedule for the other rooms and it'll empty... I don't even own one and even I know that... Creating two schedules takes 30 seconds and your problem is solved It's also one less sensor to clean which means roborock is the winner
@victorc91953 жыл бұрын
@@alex8449 maybe you missed the part where I said it doesn't empty all the way.... habitually...a self emptying robot that doesn't empty itself is a fail, so the nod goes to irobot.

Battery life is a huge deal. For those of us that work from home, we need the vacuum to finish the job on the first attempt. I can't have the vacuum running out of juice, then resuming while I'm on a conference call. 5 hours later when the battery fully recharges, everyone is starting to get home and will want to watch TV or have dinner without the vacuum rolling under their feet. The battery is a much bigger deal than people realize.

@zmast3333 жыл бұрын
Also, batteries degrade over time, which means they don't hold charge as long as they used to. Having a bigger battery is good because it may very well mean that you never need to replace it. For instance, say that the usable battery capacity drops to 50% after several years. If that's still enough to vacuum your home, you won't even notice it.

Navigation - point to Roborock. LIDAR does not require the room to be lit, whereas, VSLAM does, thereby limiting the window as to when the iRobot can be run. With regards to cleaning ability, you should take into account that Roborock cleans around the empty dock base, whereas, iRobot does not. In addition, the operation of the Roborock is superior to that of the iRobot. For example, when Roborock encounters an error the robot announces exactly what the error is and how to resolve it, whereas, iRobot directs the user to open the app for resolution instructions. On a personal note, I have had immeasurably more problems with iRobot than I've ever encountered with Roborock. In conclusion, I very much enjoy your reviews and videos.

The S9 had some serious hardware issues with early models becoming unusable due to the dreaded “Error 31”. iRobot replaced those units under warranty and my second unit has been great ever since. I will say that the D shape of the S9 is a disadvantage when it gets under dining room chairs. Ours seem to be just right to let it in but confuse the heck out of it getting out. Better than the i7? My MiL has the i7, in a tighter floor plan than ours and no self-empty base. It’s real close, but I still like our S9, especially on carpet. It’s had no trouble at all with my wife’s long hair, or our dog’s constant shedding. Can’t wait for VW to get his hands on the brand-new j7+!

The Roborock suffers from a fatal design flaw that over time causes an error 10 'filter is clogged or wet' and reduced fan speed. The issue is that there is something about the design that allows dirt and dust to pass the filter and catch basin and clog the intake fan housing. This also causes reduced suction power over time. The other problem is, there is no easy way to clean the intake, it requires disassembling the machine and about 3 hrs of your time.

I have that issue with Swiffer. I try dry - sweeping first, but if I get too close to the bowl, I just get a mess that often doesn’t pick up. To be critical, I think you missed a few things. 1. The reviews of the S9 have been terrible, the number of errors that brick the machine makes it unbuyable IMO. 2. Single point per category scoring does not show any nuance, I think this review could've been summed up by saying buy the roomba if you have carpet, and he roborock if you have hard flooring. The channel is a great source of information, and very comprehensive. I wanted to see if I even needed a robot vacuum and this is convincing me that, yes, I do. I just need/want one with a self-cleaning dock. This old Neato did a great job with its flat front driving right up under the cabinets and sucked up all the fur. I'm leaning towards the Roborock because it has better reviews (and a mop) and the S9 seems to have a lot of problems but I want to make sure I'm buying the best option for cleaning the whole floor not just open spaces. I just ordered the Ilife W450 to mop but I know it's too tall to clean under the kitchen cabinets. My hope is that the Roborock will vacuum thoroughly under the toe kick and also mop under there.

I do like the head to head format for alike robots. Maybe it's worth giving half-marks for 'slight' advantages like the price being only 10% cheaper or the hair tangles being equally good except in extreme hair length circumstances. I do wish your reviews included more tests of navigational complications since in my experience finding a robot that can navigate your space can outweigh some vacuum performance ability. For example, I unfortunately had to return the Deebot D8+ which was an *excellent* robot, but it struggled with my mirrored closet doors and navigating over my dark blue bathroom mat. My Roborock S6 has no issue with these environments, and that is the only reason I was unable to "upgrade". The Deebot had no problem vacuuming a deep shag carpet whereas the stock S6 side brush would get tangled up in it. It turns out that a knockoff replacement side brush solved this problem on the roborock. Some tests I would recommend are mirrors, dark rugs, shoelaces, loose cords, tight spaces (like navigating under 4 legs of a chair), shag carpeting... I'm sure you can find more examples of navigational complications online. Anyway, love the channel! Keep it up!

the big difference between the 2 is that the s7 can't be found in Canada. That solves that.

I bought a s9+ and I totally love it.... but I bought a brava jet m6 for the moping side and I'm not impressed with that purchase though. So might have to consider the robo rock
@xamomax3 жыл бұрын
Yea I got the bravajet as well. It just seems to squirt water down then smear it around, as opposed to how the older Scoobas would actually suck the dirt off the floor.

You recommend any robot with bag-less docking stations? I really don't like the old fashion bagged vacuum concept. Thanks

The format is great. Please keep it up. I agree with @MMontserrat. Individual scores would be most useful as not only would we be able to see relative winners of a matchup, but we can compare any other ones later down the road and as was mentioned people can apply their own evaluations. Great stuff all around!

@@VacuumWars Oh man. I can't even order it if I tried. Samsung's website won't let me preorder. I guess they shut down new pre-orders. Make sense though with chip shortages, I imagine they won't be able to pump very many of these out with that new Intel chip it requires.

I honestly wouldn't mind seeing the Deebot OZMO N8 Pro + compared with the Roborock S7 + Auto Empty Base in one of these. I got the former for a fantastic deal at the time, but now that Roborocks Auto Empty dock is out I wouldn't mind seeing a comparison for future purchases.

Nice vid as always. I'm fan of your channel and of robot vacuum in general. I have a roborock S5 max and I'm very satisfied. In addition to the features you explained, the shape should be part of the comparison as the half rounded S9 is more efficient at cleaning the corners. Need to be mentioned here unless you take it in account in your website. Regards from France.

Based on this review I bought the Roborock S7. It didn't pick up dirt nearly as well as this shows. I went over the area with a Dyson V15 after and it cleaned and it picked up a lot more dust and dirt. (It's going back too because my hand can't take the weight!) The Roborock has odd patterns for cleaning and even went on cords and things so it didn't seem to work as well. It didn't even clean half of my 1450 sq ft place that is almost entirely vynl plank floors. I also came home today to find it stuck on an area rug where it konked out. (Looks like it can never clean that one with a robot.) Disappointed. It's getting returned. I wanted to like it so much too!

We have longer carpet, few hard floors, two people with long hair, and a St. Bernard who is shedding like crazy. Think the Roomba might be better due to the deep carpet clean and hair tangle resistance?
