I think fully UX people can be only the ones who have huge experience in the field. But current situation every job post is hybrid UI/UX and they expect Juniors to do UX

Pick your heroes well or they will lead you astray. This advice can be applied outside of UX Design as well. Be picky with people who you believe can guide you or mentor you. Thank you for the adviecç

Thank you for a great video. I was that type of person who saw an average UX designer salary and thought “Why shouldn’t i try a UX, it seems easy and i’ve done some graphic design as well”, cause I didn’t know what UX is really about and I was hoping to enter the market with no problem, but as soon as i made my “portfolio” which contains literally everything except good case study, i began to apply for Ux/ui roles in my country. The result was obvious, very few of the companies reply to my candidacy and the answer was always “No”. Now i realise how naive I was, because of some videos that says that you can become a UX designer in 3 months or so. Maybe you can but with no experience the chances are pretty low.But I think that was a good lesson, and now I’m really excited about getting into UX. In conclusion I want to say to all of the people who are in the same situation as me to NOT give up and judge yourself because you can’t find a job in this moment, just keep going with your ambitions! (Sorry for such a long comment but I hope someone will find it useful)

@vaexperience, thanks for creating this channel and providing a real-life account of UX. In hindsight, I wish I found your work two years ago, prior deciding to take an MA course as a way to enter into UX from another design discipline. Reading on the e-version of your book that commercial experience in UX is essential to enter into the field was really painful but somehow necessary and confirmed the reasons why my job hunt has not been really fruitful up to this point.

I like the real talk 👍... Defiently agree that getting into a field is not easy.. so many bootcamps make it look so easy by advertising that this field is 'in demand'. So people end up thinking its going to be easy if i just finish the bootcamp or whatver course they are doing. In reality, its not. Strap in for the long haul, need to be ever learning and more importantly than anything, is that, as you learn, think of ways that u will implement what specifically you are learning and need to even try apply it into some real world scenario (even if its made up). Such a big difference between learning something and actually applying it to real world scenarios. (lol thats my real talk for the day 😅). Now back to my bootcamp hahaha.

beginner here I am starting UX coming from business background so the visual stuffs harder for me but imo its just as important because to start out this industry kind of require beginners to be more of an all in one with no specialization, even if I write the best case studies with "subpar" visuals nobody would hire me on a junior level.

Been reading ur book, and to be honest, it's soooooo Informative. when I look at other places, information about ux is so scattered and people either want to sell you their courses or they want to sell their way of doing the UX process. But your book is very easy to understand and covers the right things and everything. At the same time, it's kinda scary to read it, because in my self evaluation i was an entry level guy in all the categories, except for Graphic design. But I'm sticking to your advice..

Thank you. You've got this - UX is a journey and it starts with understanding what steps you need to take to grow into it. don't try to do everything at once but instead learn skill by skill and in no time you'll become very confident designer 👌

I feel you... It seemed scary when I saw it like that, only the UI part being somehow good😅 I am now trying to apply different UX methods to the project I am doing, and I feel really insecure, constantly asking myself If I am even doing the right things. It's hard and really messy. But I think and hope that it will naturally get better with time and more experience.

@@martinabozhinovska53 haha yes, I am only good at UI. BTW what kind of project are you doing? Is it a imaginary-client project or you got an actual client? I suppose it would be difficult to get an actual client to practise UX. But good luck with your journey!!!

@@shehzadamurthy1983 I agree, it is quite hard. I luckily had an opportunity just in the right time. I partnered up with my friend, who is a developer. He created a platform 2 years ago, which didn't perform well. After this, it is probably going to be any of the challenges Vy provides, or perhaps I will find some non-profit organisations to help. Wish you luck on your journey too.

The curious thing that I see is that I have a list of stuff that I should do acording to him to score a UX design job, and I agree. But then I see on LinkedIn people on very good UX positions with portfolios that are already much worse than mine... Like... WTF? I really think many many UX designers working today were extremely lucky. My honest opinion.

If my portfolio would be online you'd think the same. Experienced rarely put their up to date work online because of the NDAs, time to update, etc. Even if they would apply with the same material you've seen - interviews and performance there is another invisible part that separates single individuals from masses of applicants. They are likely to use more case studies, examples of work etc. Yet another angle is the type of work - true UX roles won't care about UI beyond the work being clearly presented and the story told cohesively and vice versa
@MrZxcvbnm22
@MrZxcvbnm22 2 жыл бұрын
@@vaexperience Yeah, I guess it is that beacuse I rarely see stuff from their current jobs. It's just sometimes I think that some years ago you needed to do much less to get a job... T.T Also another factor that I think makes me invisible is that I don't have a formal education because I have been always poor (I have experience in digital work though)... But I make myself belive that it's not that. It's that I'm not good enough yet to make them not ignore me... I get episodes of depression because I'm 25 and I havent been able to kickstart my career yet...

I'm currently starting over from scratch with your book and a new portfolio. After watching one of your previous video on how hiring managers view our portfolio case studies, it stopped me in my tracks! I managed to find a startup that has no UX department, they allowed me to use their App for the real world case study for my portfolio. This will be a huge challenge to say the least but the founder is a great leader whom I can learn from. Next i'll hunt for students to collaborate with for my 2nd concept portfolio project like you adviced in one of your videos. Thank you for changing my 3 months UX designer mentality into: 'Let's do UX right!'
