Nice video, thank you for the great tips! After living in Chile for a few months, I went to Peru, and saw a Burger King in Lima---so I had to get a cheeseburger, and it tasted great! Otherwise I cooked at home, and took the metro or walked to get to places. When I moved back to states, I kept away from fast food and cooked, and walked instead of getting another car. Using the techniques in your video, I stay under $800 a month in the US, so certainly it can be done in Asia for less!

I have been told numerous times over the years that I must live alone in a old wood shack in Isan with no running water having a miserable life. Your typical Thai survives on $400 or less a month and often that is a family of four. My overall monthly average with now family of three is still about the same between a low of $400 USD a month but on the average about $650 a month. I am able to eat well , have a home about 400 feet from the ocean , all needed expenses paid. In America I would be one of the millions joining the homeless . I have no insurance which I believe is a total waste of money when you are older. Have you checked the costs of insurance in Thailand lately and what little it offers? Here I am happy overall and ok. That is all that matters.

@@destinationsroadslesstraveled I watched a little bit of your train videos, but it was late and I had to get to bed. Thank you for your content! I am confused though, as Isan, Thailand, is not near the ocean. My husband would much prefer beaches in Thailand, as we have been there and love Thai food, Thai silk. We went to see the boxing; I am not such a fan of that or any boxing, but he will rarely watch it. Central America would not work for my husband with the food alone and Nicaragua is what we could afford and they have a huge trash issue, but that could be better in ten years or so. How is litter where you live or Thailand in general, and does the govt pay for mosquito spraying? Thanks
@Avacadofrommexicoyeah26 күн бұрын
Oh. I see. What I gather after re-reading is that you live near the ocean, not Isan, but that people assumed that, for your budget, you were living in an area with more poverty like Isan. The province contributes decently to the GDP, but the bulk of govt spending goes to Bangkok. Unfair

There are *LOTS* of video's about slumming it while living overseas. I understand that some people are short of cash and need to find other ways to live. What we have found is this: if you are poor in the USA or the EU, you will be poor in any other country you decide to live in. Things in the new country will be overlooked, like getting a high quality health care plan or living in a nice apartment (let's say with a washer so you don't do your clothes in the sink). Observations in our travels and actually spending years living overseas show that even in low cost countries, there is a need for $2,000 or even a bit more to be living a quality life.

Not true for everyone. I know folks who live cheaper than "normal" in other countries, they don't expect amenities that the average American may think is a "must."

Warning everyone. When you see a string of messages like this that end up recommending a single investment advisor that multiple people in the message stream have all used to retire early using their advice. I would not trust this myself. In such odd situations there may be scams going on. Get your investment advice from real people you know not someone that you hear about on the internet. No offense to anyone who made comments here that is telling a real story or is offering honest advice. But this pattern of behavior where multiple people just seem to show up on the same youtube video and recommend the same person because they are all rich now, from that single persons advice, just seems like BS to me. I am not even saying this is BS, there is an off chance possibility that someone here is telling a real story. I am just saying the behavior seems so out of the ordinary statistically speaking, that I would never send money to someone like this without very critical consideration and proof. I have blocked anyone that leaves a whatsap or other contact numbers or emails on here. If another one shows up on any of my videos before I read the comments, I don't suggest you trust them without speaking to your lawyer or accountant. Best of luck to everyone. Dan

Why would you suggest that? Seems counterproductive to me. I stayed a month in Thailand for 960 US dollars. 320 was beer out of the 960. So was partying like a rock star. 3 bedroom 2 bath house, Took girl friend on a week vacation. The 960 included 2 round trip plane tickets. 15 dollars was the electric bill, internet was 21 dollars, water and garbage were less then 10 bucks, Phone is less the 20. I self insure. Super Fresh quality food every meal. I could never achieve that quality of life in the US for that price. By the way that was 2 or more people. Yes I did learn to calm it down. The body can not take that amount of alcohol on a daily basis. Now only pay 100 US for 1 bedroom 1 bath House. Phone ,internet ,water, garbage, electric about same. I have added a visa, insurance, vehicle to my costs, as well as paying off some of girlfriends debt and still can stay under a 1000 US including beer. Once I got boots on the ground and realized what MY costs were, I retired 3 years earlier then planned.
