You gonna stick with actually listening to music now and leave the cRAP behind?
@monto392 жыл бұрын
A whole 2 generations now have grown up thinking of rap/hip hop as the base that popular music is derived from. Well, first off popular music for the most part sucks. Anyways, I've talked to several people who have been so happy to discover blues and R&B (as in 1950's style r&b, not Usher). It has some of the same street grit as hip hop - but the music is raw and primal. There is some common ground in syncopation as well. Maybe I can end up getting some studio work playing harp or guitar behind guys wanting to bring some blues into their hip hop recordings!

saw Freddie king in Sw Oklahoma in the Purple palace in 72' -73 ? .too young and too white to get in the front door so I had to wash dishes and bus tables in exchange for admission. I got chicken skin and walked on air for 2 weeks after. Thanks Johnny Sanders for allowing this skinny boy to enjoy the blues at their best.

In 1964 I was learning to play guitar. One of the guys I knew told me if I wanted to learn to be a lead guitar player to get the first Freddie King instrumental album. "Just learn how to play those songs and then forget them and you'll know all you need to know". I still haven't learned them all and I sure can't forget them.

I’m sure alcohol was all he was doing! Lol. I went to see Bob Dylan circa 1972 in Atlanta when he went electric with The Band. Couldn’t understand anything he said. Couldn’t complete a sentence. Mumbling thru the whole thing. Highlight was The Band minus Dylan. I had been a fan since 1965. Never again waste money on his shows. Bought his album Self Portrait. So bad, I returned it and told them it was scratched. (I may have scratched it myself, just to be honest). He later said he was fulfilling a contract to make an album. Thanks a pantload Ahole.

@@VagelisStefanatos This is a wonderful collection of Freddie's best stuff. Thank you so much. Back around 1966 I got to talk to Mike Bloomfield backstage at a Butterfield concert at Clark University. I asked him his influences, and he said "The three Kings." I hadn't heard of Freddie at the time. Now I like him the best, though each has his own great style. I think more people would cover Freddie's songs, but his voice is so high few can handle it.

Freddie King was the King of the 'Three Kings'. His singing style later on, he did on purpose. In order to be different to B.B. King. He was told that he sounded to much like BB. Now, THAT is amazing. On top, Freddie was a much better guitarist. Damn, he was the best! No wonder Stevie Ray Vaughan looked up to him.
