Well Said, Kristi I live in Australia and I am passionate about wildlife and the planet we live in. I was inspired by wildlife when I embarked on my first Safari in 2013 to South Africa. I since realised that taking photos with a phone doesn't do any justice to the animals and surroundings that we see and explore. I felt the same in 2019 when we visited BC in Canada. I since bought a Nikon D 7500 DSLR to start off with, but now I 've decided that photography is my passion and I've pre-ordered my Z8 before May 10th. Can't wait..........hopefully I'll receive it this week before I head off to NZ this week.

Vahagn thank you for this heartfelt down to earth footage. Kristi Odom is a superstar and you can feel the passion. As an event photographer my favorite thing to shoot bar none was CONCERTS and FESTIVALS!!! Ms Boston I definitely can relate to the excitement she feels covering Concerts and Shows. Well as a Z50 owner and building my z-Trinity, I am ready to take the plunge. If I was still doing event photography I would get the Z9. Now that I shoot for myself and for my own enjoyment, the Z8 makes perfect sense. It is my mirrorless D850. Kudos Nikon. ROCK ON VAHAGN! Viva La Nikon!!

Yah it was a great time. One day we will get together and party. ;) I'm sure you will like the Z8. It's a great camera for many different uses. Im looking forward in getting one for a B roll video camera that does 10 bit and also using the Z8 for shoots that require me to take as little as possible. Hand held work.

Ordered the Z8 at the Seattle event for my wife. Z9 to big heavy for her small hands so this is perfect! I'll add as my 2nd body on the road later for sure too!! Next Thursday!!!

Excellent “touch & feel” event video. Enjoyed the interviews of Nikon insiders as well as the product impressions from working pros and enthusiast. I think the Z8 is going to live up to the high expectations of those awaiting its arrival. The Tesla launch looked like fun. Model Y Performance? Hope Moz enjoys the R5. These days I hear nothing but rave reviews. It seems like a can’t miss addition to his collection; particularly at current prices.

Thank you Greg. Appreciate it and glad you enjoyed the video. Yup that's Sith's Tesla and I think you are spot on with the model. It really impressed me. First time really checking out a Tesla I can say its awesome. The future. Regular cars seem so outdated. The only thing with electric cars is. the worry of the no charge issue or the grid. Are we ready to go all electric? What what will happen to all the gas cars? Super cars? etc.

I have no control what they or who they decide to send the NDA stuff to but I will tell you this, if I one day ever be lucky enough to be chosen for a super secret NDA camera or lens from NIKON with time to make content for a future release. knowing me my work ethic, I will try to put out something crazy and extraordinary. I have no say or control over who decides what over at Nikon USA nor will I ever complain. They do what they do and I do what I do. :) Thanks again for your comment. Glad you were able to go see it in person. I Went to a “ look and try” event Friday evening in the Baltimore area at the Guinness Brewery ware house. Great evening of hanging out with fellow photographers, staff from our local camera store, Service Photo(fantastic), Nikon Rep, NPS and of course the Z8. Had a few minutes with it, very nice. A bit smaller than I was expecting but will be easy to get use to. Maybe about the size of a D300. Talking with the rep I told him my analogy of owning the Z9 and Z8. It’s like having two different size hammers in your tool box, both get the job done but each is best for different jobs. 🙂Said he was going to use it. Everyone I saw trying it was impressed. Chatted with many who have never used Nikon or had not gone mirrorless yet. Pretty sure I sold a few Z8🙂. Pre ordered mine on the 10th with NPS priority , should be here end of the week…looking forward to using along side the Z9. Have several gigs coming up and have already mapped out what each will do,

Nice congrats. For those coming from a Z6 Z7 , this is a heck of an upgrade. those that have the Z9 . perfect smaller second body. These events are cool and like you I had a great time speaking with the public and getting out and getting a feel for what people think and want. Congrats on your Pre order. have fun with it. Moz bought an R5😱 I'm sure he's enjoying it, it's an awesome camera that launched ahead of its time😉 We were supposed to have a hands-on event here on the 25th, but it's been dead-silence since the official reveal, and the shocking price tag we were slammed with in the UAE putting the Z8 just shy of $500 over the price of an A7RV and $891 over that of an R5! In any case, and even though I made up my decision to continue saving for a Z9, I was curious to try the Z8 and see how the handling compares to my Z7II.

ohh I love the handling of the Z8 Yamen. One thing I did notice was the amazing no black out of the Z9 vs the R5 on mechanical shutter. The R5 is great and now its discounted i believe. It all comes down to lenses. If you are invested heavily on Canon glass. It's tough. Vice versa. BUt the colors out of a Nikon to me is where it's at combined with the amazing glass. The 58mm Z Noct is a reason for me to be team Nikon. lol

Hello Vahagraphy, I have not had a see the Z8 yet. (My local Nikon dealer shut down), but interest to hear some people say that the Z9 is better in the hand and better built. That was the first for me. I did get a Z7ii just to see if I like the Z system and was going to keep it as just a second body backup for my Z9 which I love. So I will make the final call after I see the Z8. Keep well, keep safe and keep the rock rolling.

Vahagan, shhhh...., you can't say that about the R5's autofocus! The Canon fanboys might get offended. We can't compare them with Nikon. LOL! Question on the Z8 event, was the Z8 used for filming any of this footage? I'm curious about hand holding it for video use.

Thanks for the video, V. Some say the R5 has better AF than the Z9. Some they are as good as each other. What is what was your experience, V? I fully in on Nikon btw. I’m just curious.

I did not test it enough to give you a full rundown but I can say that the R5 does a pretty good job sticking to the subject and YES it does have similar performance like the Z system where sometimes the box will focus on the brush or the body of the bird. The graphics of the box is smother than the Nikon, and that might lead some to believe the Canon is better but in terms of performance they are very close. In some ways the Z9 did a better job specially when you dial in the focus mode box and take it off the full 3D mode. I strongly prefer using the Z9 in these specific focus mode box and 3D wwith Animal eye detect vs just full 3d. THe can was set on animal AF servo.

A fun fact is that in the International Space Station they still use dslr's as the Nikon D3. Also D4 and D5 but the D3 is still orbiting around the earth. If NASA thinks that a D3 is still sufficient I know enough.😊

18 months passed between the release of the Z9 and this camera. Nikon improved on absolutely nothing, as pointed out by Matt Granger "That Nikon guy". Same autofocus, EVF, rear display, etc. The clickbait on this "new" camera is worse than anything The Fro has ever done. What a lazy company.

I appreciate your opinion and the way you feel. Yes . it is almost the same camera but it is a great option. I really believe they had this camera ready to go but waited because the Z9 was selling so well during a rough patch in the economy and shortages. Who knows. At least Nikon has a Z8 and now we can see what the Z6 and Z7 line has in store. But remember, Nikon prides themselves with lenses. They did an amazing and timely job on all these lenses they put out. It's only been what. 5 years into the new Z system with a pandemic in the middle.

The stacked sensor in the Z9 is still the best in class (fastest readout, etc). I am so glad Nikon didn't use the slow readout 60MP sensor in the A7rV. That would have been a disaster.

Totally agree. Literally waited so long and all they did was remove a battery grip from a Z9. Doesn't matter how far ahead of the curb the Z9 was or still is; it's old and very lazy on Nikon. They should have released the Z8 and z9 at the same time with a small price difference for those not wanting a grip and then focused their time and R&D on a camera that doesn't cost a small fortune. Not a hint of a z7/z6 update. If I didn't have so much Z glass I would be with Canon. Pathetic.
