And I get that his new wand is supposed to resemble his baby rattle from when he was a baby, but now that he's an adult, why doesn't he have a regular wand like the other fairies? Well if you want the real world reason Poof is apparently a slur is some countries. As for the in-universe reason. I think the name change makes sense for the kinda character I think they are going for. Poof may not have liked their original name and changes it. Perhaps it was a way to seem more mature or grown up or perhaps it was to assert some individuality. Either way it speaks to a person who has changed a lot since their childhood years.
