I own one of these. It's incredibly warm and really comfortable. As mentioned below, however, the hood does not work well with a helmet. I really wish that Valandre would offer an optional helmet compatible hood. As the hood zips off, it would be really easy to change the hood depending on whether you're wearing a climbing helmet or not.

Is it able to layer say 200-250 gram down jackets underneath which together create a 500+ down jacket for 8000m warmth? Generally I think 8000m parkas are rather useless because they are just to warm and bulky even for Canada when it's-40 celcius unless you are just sitting there for hours so they never get used. But it'd be nice to have something like this, rated for -25 celcius that you can just layer up if ever going on an expedition

If you wanted to layer a down jacket under it, I would suggest increasing the size by 1 or 2 sizes. Realistically, however, this jacket is warmer than many other so-called "8000m" parkas out there. @@ryaniam22

Amazing jacket. It is a nice improvement over the original Immelman. However, I wish Valandre would design an option for a larger helmet-compatible hood so I can zip off the Messerschmitt hood and zip on a larger (but less storm-resistant) hood that will accomodate a climbing helmet. I'm pretty sure the designers tried a number of prototypes and designs to attempt a helmet compatible hood before deciding to go with the Messerschmitt hood. However, I would LOVE to have an extra option to zip in their best design of a helmet compatible hood even if it is less protective in a storm. This would make the jacket more versatile. The original Immelman hood was great. I loved the plush feeling against the back of my neck when the hood was stuffed into the collar.

I love this jacket but wish they made an over filled version with 500 grams off goose down instead of 350. Then you could use it for everest and 8000 meter peaks. The way it comes is close but not quite 8000 meter warm. It looks so comfortable and effortless to move in whereas other 8000 meter jackets look just too bulky. If they kept the same dimensions as it currently is and overstuffed it with 500 grams of their down it would be the warmth of other 8000 meter jackets without much of the restrictive bulk
