Yes, I know the hammering gets a bit much... but it was worth it in the end. Please get out and stop by some of the small villages throughout Italy. You will get the most authentic food, great people, and have a chance to experience Italian culture in a great way. Thank you to everyone at Carlotto's for being so nice!

Gabriel Traveler have you been on ancestral visits where your ancestors lived?
@GabrielTravelerVideos6 жыл бұрын
@@dee74raz No I haven't. I know they were from the south somewhere but I've only visited Naples, Rome and Venice. I would have to ask my mom what area my great-grandfather was from. He came to the US around 1900.

I have had the same experience: A lot of Americans do a "Once in a lifetime"-trip to Europe and Italy is reduced to Rome-Florence-Venice and perhaps Milan. Don't get me wrong, these places are fantastic, but I find it quite sad, that Italy gets reduced to these three cities. (Or four, if you count in Milan) Ironically I'm now staying 6 months in Florence, but I do all sorts of trips around Italy. And in my opinion, the small gems are those places, which make your visit really worth. My recommendation is, pick a region, where you want to stay, and stay there a week or 2, and explore the regions, and not just the big city.

I agree one should definitely see a small town but a shock to remember is that you will probably find nobody who speaks English. Don't let that be a deterrent just know. In April 1988 we stayed in Arezzo for two weeks and the only English speaking person I ran into was an English teacher in a bookstore. We architecture students explored area hilltowns and I went to Citta di Castillo where I met three young people fascinated with me and I communicated with them best as I could with my Spanish and the few Italian words I knew. They said "Bella!" to the scenes I drew of their village and they asked me to sketch them. I'm not very good at drawing people so when I showed them the drawing they said something I could understand: "oooh, zombie with the z pronounced as an s." I stuck to drawing spaces and buildings after that and had a great time.

I'm not from Lazio so I will post here a link of an article that is a list of 15 "borghi" (=ancient towns or villages usually with a castle) in Lazio (Rome's region); the article is in Italian but you can still read the names of the towns (and translate the texts with google if you want) www.google.com/amp/s/www.zingarate.com/amp/italia/lazio/borghi-piu-belli-lazio.html I hope I was helpful P.s. Maybe it's better if you don't go to Amatrice becasue there has been an earthquake so it isn't easy to get there

Hi Wolters, thank you very much, there are many worlds in Italy, even inside the same region. I'm from Sardinia, come and visit our region of Italy🇮🇹, there are a lot of surprises that you can find, one of them is that in Sant'Antioco there is the only woman in the world (Chiara Vigo) that knows how to search and how to make Bisso fabrics, bisso is the only one fabric that you can't buy and can't sell, it is protected by UNESCO! We have a desert and one of the most tall canyon in Sardinia, we have rocks shaped from the wind, we have another world of fantastic Italian food and many more special things!!

@@woltersworld not really, the Veneto rhyme including "vicentini magnagati" is much older but it's unclear where it's coming from. Also, during the WW2, cats were eaten in others part of Italy as well. You can find more on "cucina vicentina" in the Italian Wikipedia.
