Marcus A, I have read quite a few of your comments, and I have found them to be disagreeable at best. First, I believe that your interpretation of the inclusion of the quote: “immigrants: we get the job done” is just so wrong. Ms. Naidu was merely expressing credit to her parents, whose hard work enabled and inspired her to get to where she is today. I’m sorry, but I completely disagree with you that her speech even the least bit “politically charged” or controversial, and I believe that you are creating one helluva mountain out of a molehill!

@@assemblyrequired7342 Fair enough. Can you explain to me then, in a way that makes sense, why the school decided to not allow her speech if it had nothing to do with being political or controversial? @waynekach76795 жыл бұрын
We should be giving those "betters" a lesson in intolerance. There is no justification as to why a talented young person -from any nation, or any immigration status - be undermined by an institution of the state? The only reason is that the state is owned and operated by bigots who couldn't raise their own children to excel and rely on privilege to get ahead (if that's even possible now). As a society We The People should never tolerate the negativity and incompetence of those in power - nor those who empower them through their ignorance and racism (that's you, Marcus A). This young woman is someone who all of the U.S. should be proud of - especially because she was educated in one of the most racist counties in the country. She has overcome countless obstacles set purposely in her path by institutions that claim they are doing work for our children. If we had a government that actually cared about justice - this school's administration should be investigated for hate crimes. How many more young people are we going to allow to be sidelined because we take a road named "Tolerance" rather than drag them out of their offices and give them a modern-day tar and feathering?

It has been my custom to arrive early to meet the graduates, and their loved ones and wish them well, especially at this graduation, my niece, and the Future Farmers of America (FFA) students. I departed and returned after the function to meet, greet, and take pictures with and/or for the graduates. I did not know the unfortunate, and understood as a necessary event which unfolded during the function. School administrators were no doubt following strict custom and meaning of a valedictorian and the valedictory as a farewell speech - www.myspeechclass.com/valedictorian-speech.html ; theconversation.com/long-considered-a-high-honor-the-valedictorian-tradition-faces-an-uncertain-future-115789 ; candid and void of real world troubles; and possible apprehensions, lacking guidance as to what free speech was allowed at a public school sponsored event. It is my opinion that Ms. Naidu believed that a proper farewell speech, goes against etymology, and is of such to raise the sensitivity to real world issues, demanding solutions from her peers and to inspire them to imagine, create, and persevere, crafting new paths when needed in spite of the seeming opposition and injustices; not popular subjects. The very quality to be instilled in the people of any great nation, freedom of speech and freedom of the press was hindered yet inspiring an escape route, by the valedictorian in social media. Administrators were doing what they understood as their orders and were commissioned to do as agents of the state, required to tow strict lines in disallowing religious liberty in school, calming language that may appear counter to immigration tendencies, inclusion and sexual abuse and such hot topics. The way the event is playing out is hindsight and more good could come now than if delivered at the ceremony. Join us on June 11 2019 for the next scheduled OCPS Board meeting at 4:15 pm for non agenda and 5pm for agenda items when we may have Ms. Naidu speaking.

She has nobody to blame but herself because she arrogantly refused to comply with a school procedure that applies equally to all persons invited to speak. She refused to submit a rehearsed recording of her speech for the school to review for appropriateness of content and presentation. Her refusal, of itself, sufficed to raise suspicion of risk that she would ambush her audience with something inappropriate. Moreover, we do not know that her speech at KZbin is the same speech that she had planned. She likely toned it down, at KZbin, to further the impression that she was treated unfairly. What she still has not done is defend her decision to arrogantly defy a procedure that every other speaker complied with. I have no sympathy for her because I am a person who believes in doing what a person with authority asks me to do, so long as their instruction is reasonable. And what she was asked to do was reasonable. To hell with her.

Incredible speech. Not right what they did to you. Saw you on the news and looked you up on KZbin. You deserve the time of day for this achievement.

Well thank god this politically threatening, rabble-rousing speech was not allowed to be given. It could have given those impressionable children dangerous ideas. (They still teach what sarcasm is in high school, right?)

Congratulations. Must have sucked, but it is clear today who the winner is here. Via con Dios, kid. You're going to do great.

Congratulations! Hypocritical dysfunctional GOP individuals. Are unfortunately in great numbers today. Stay the course and continue to use your mind to improve yourself and Persevere. Times are a changing! Use media to develop political power that will result in much needed change!

I heard nothing offensive in your speech, but am offended by those University High School officials who rejected it.

If I were you I’d consider consulting with a law firm like Ben Crump or any Civil Rights attorney for that matter. What’s been done is a complete mockery of your 1st Amendment.

You were knocked down...get up and keep going. Immigrants are beautiful and fabulous citizens. Your speech was mature and appropriate. Be better than your adversaries!
