In 2005 - after a decade doing Bitácora for RCTV, a Venezuelan free-to-air channel - we finally managed to travel to the the only border of Venezuela that we were missing. The triple point. The Cocuy stone. That hidden place in the Amazon jungle where they join Venezuela, Colombia and Brazil.
The most epic trip in the 15 years we took Logbook. An impossible route in these times because the regime does not allow passage to this Venezuelan area. Only they and their privileged have access. It was never possible to fly or navigate to these remote landscapes that should have be one of our most sustainable and fascinating tourist destinations. The virgin rivers of the Amazon. A delirium for fishermen sports. But well... the wonder is that at that time we managed to make the trip and with the absolute support of the National Guard. Finally the Alto Orinoco and on a little Brazilian boat called La Iguana, - it still exists and belongs to @expedicioneselvadentro - with 2 cabins for travelers, one for the crew and the captain's cabin, which they gave to me because I was the only woman among 11 men.
The host of the program. Well, the lady, because by then she was 51 years old.
We flew from Puerto Ayacucho - capital of the Amazonas state - to La Esmeralda, the largest and most valuable runway in our country because It is on a quartz mine. There La Iguana was waiting for us, our home for the next 13 days, where our life would take place on the waters of the Amazon rivers, dedicated to knowing the jungle, the indigenous communities, the legends that are woven around those remote lands.
First we sailed through the Orinoco, with its rather brown waters, and then we entered the almost black waters of the river Casiquiare where we had never sailed. Surprising how virgin this universe is. We never got another boat because since then and until now, cruises have never been carried out on our Amazon rivers as happens in Brazil. And I'm not talking about giants cruises. Not at all. I'm talking about little boats like La Iguana, for about 10 travelers who love silence, nature, and the landscapes that paralyze Already in Casiquiare we left La Iguana and in the flying ones - small aluminum boats - we went through a pipe to get there.
to the community of Culebra. There we took a tremendous swim in a waterfall and slept surrounded by tepuyes.
