Its not age that is catching up with Val. It's the skill of her opponents. I actually love that she's finally facing skilled opponents. Most of her past opponents were frankly nowhere near the caliber of fighter Val is and it made her look invincible. And it got boring. Her best fights were with Holly, Joanna, and Amanda- all world class and former champions. It's irritating that because she is a woman people are suggesting she is getting old and that is why she is struggling. Which is dumb. She's incredibly athletic and healthy still. She's just dealing with better opponents. I am glad to see her face adversity and have tough challenges.

Watched it live and it appears that Valentina didnt put her hands on the canvas until AFTER the knees started. Seems like she was attempting to stop the knees once they started coming by intentionally putting her hands back down, a tactic that puts both the opponent and the ref in a tough spot. Was still a great fight from both athletes. They should both be proud!

Math ain't adding up here. Sean strickland oustruck izzy 27-12 in round 1, 22-1 in the head, completely dominated and controlled the whole entire round. Got a knockdown and almost finished izzy - unanimous 10-9 round. Magomed Ankalaev dominated the entire round 5 with almost 5 mins ground control time, 18-0 significant strikes - Mike bell scored it 10-9 ankalaev resulted into a draw, other 2 judges scored it 10-8 ankalaev round 5. Jan had 0 significant strike in that round scored 9-10. And mike bell scored a 1:30 min turnaround by grasso a 10-8 that once again decided the draw, while the other 2 judges had it 10-9 grasso. These bullshit scores tainting fighters legacies, can't believe people are attacking shevchenko for this and doing anything they can to justify the draw. Aint no way in world grasso won last round 10-8

Shevchenko & Grasso will be like Moreno & Figueredo. We definitely need a trilogy, the draw is questionable and inconclusive. Grasso was bleeding from the jabs Valentina was landing througout the fight (damage), Grasso's big moments was the knockdown, the big knees and another dirty boxing exchange against the fence. What im saying is both ladies had their moments but the decisive round was 5 and i don't think it was one sided in such a way that Grasso deserved a 10-8, Valentina made a mistake which allowed Grasso to take her back & control her for the last minute or so of the 5th round, up until that point Valentina was winning the standup exchanges in my book.

Fight was 3-1 in her favor going into the 5th round in a lot of peoples eyes. Jon Anik even made a comment about the champ needing to get a finish in the final round to secure a victory before the round started. Even if it were 2-2, most thought Shevchenko had done enough during the first 4 minutes of the 5th round to secure the win. The 10-8 scorecard was another gross example of Judges appeasing the UFC and scoring it how they think the UFC want the fight scored. "The UFC doesn't control the judging or have a say in judging" is a cop out response by the UFC and it's by design - they want to be removed from having any responsibility in the outcome of decisions by deferring to the judges... These judges have been around long enough to know what outcomes the UFC want in these scenarios and do their best to ensure they meet those expectations. Sports become more and more blatant with its favouritism. It's good for the sharp gamblers who take this kind of stuff into consideration though.

There is starting to be an argument not that it's staged but that there is a narrative going on with the brass and judges/commissions, probably a ton of money exchanging hands, to help "guide" the decisions along the path ufc needs them to. If you think about the frequency of robberies in the ufc, vs all other leagues combined, its kinda blatant that something is going on. When the same judges and same refs are at all these shows, but only the ufc has high level atrocities of judging weekly, you just can't ignore that and claim its coincidence.

I hope Valentina can be around much longer. But every year in fight years is rough. Women too are unfortunately at a disadvantage because of hormones dying off. Late 30s and early 40s are those perimenopause years for lots of women. It’s super rough and your body just starts shitting all over you overnight. Injuries especially. I’ve been an athlete all my life, but my body tells me what I will and will not do now. The mind over matter doesn’t work. When your hormones are crap, it’s hell.

If the opponent is not moving, spinning elbow or just regular hook both can be strong enough. Back spinning attacks are good for catching an opponent who think it's their turn to attack and surprise. Valentina slightly slower than her prime but I really think it's the Grasso's tempo and timing that just happens to be awkward for certain fighter, like Valentina. MMA math is not regular math, more like more diverse rock scissor paper. Grasso's tempo looked very consistent and continuous that made Valentina frustrated. But Objectively, Valentina still won. you can watch someone like Weasel's to precisely count all the strikes and points.

Val kept making mistakes with those stupid headlock , exactly the same thing she did in the nunes rematch that cost her the belt. Alexa slipped out of the headlock due that blood on her face which she capitalized. She may have won the fifth rnd but not impressive because she capitalized on a mistake. Still Val survived the 5th rnd which is impressive too. HEart of a champ.
