Beautiful. Truly moves the soul, and when that flute comes in it just sends shivers down my spine.

I'm glad to see that you are proud of your heritage. Long ago, I may have had a past life that this music reminds me of. Hardly any music today has the complexity and soothing nature that this does.

Michael: thank you, nice to hear from such a renowned luthier, I bought some strings from you for my kraviklyre a couple of years ago. I can't remember exactly the tuning I used, the strings are white horsetail hair.

Look up Chris Nogy, he might make bowed lyres. I know for a fact that he makes plucked lyres, as I own one made by him.

Valgaldr recorded one album, Their first, as a traditional norwegian black metal band, in 2015. You´ll find it on Spotify, and maybe Tidal, too. Their first album was released through Fallen angel Productions. but, things changes (and, eh, uhum, Thanx to God, and all the Others :-D), since Valgaldr gone solo, or something close to, HE still uses the band name. And he sounds better, than ever, just using old traditional scandinavian/norwegian hand made accoustic instruments. Fallen angels productions website, including, a quite trashy search engine. Wish you, Good Luck :-) www.kvlt.fi/label/fallen-angels_productions

Siggy, thats a diffrent 'Valgaldr', not the same person. Its two diffrent projects/bands with the same name. The stuff on my channel is the only stuff available from this one.

Thanx, I wondered when I searched, wrote and listened, about it was the same Valgaldr, or not. But the Northern black metal/neo folk/northern ambient scene, is growing, and changing so fast, into so many directions, from the same Old, Proud, nearly Dead Oak Three, "planta, before kvitekrist tok landet", blooming, slowly again, in the seventies, and flowering, fast, wild and expressive, from early nineties, that i Just, can´t follow It All...... So, Sorry to Say, that "I took´n på hæl´n, og tuppa til", and Went Quite Wrong. So, after a few hours traveling around the net, I just went back to the song, and your Quite Briiliant You Tube Account, to change my wrong info by deleting it, or just to tell that it was not the right Valgaldr. Now, with your strait forwarding correx, and my Kneeling to Vikingskog ;-D, I sure, believe, it´s DONE! At the end. Thanx a lot, for Your Deep Knowledge, specially about the Norwegian Folk Music, and Nature, but also about our Common Scandinavian Heritage, History and Culture.

Did you make this jouhikko or purchase it? If the former, do you sell them, if the latter where did you buy?
@Vikingskog
@Vikingskog 8 жыл бұрын
Its not a jouhikko, its a tagelharpe. jouhikko is in the same instrumentfamily but got fewer strings than tagelharpe. He bought it, there are people in Norway and Sweden who make them, cant remember who though.

I don't know where you are located, but there is also a guy called Corwen Broch located in Dorset England who makes these, and to a high degree of authenticity if wanted (using horse hair strings etc) he is on the web

What stringing material and tuning are you using on your instrument?
@astoicinchrist3401

If you're referring to the tagelharpa/talharpa, then it's likely horsehair stringing. With that being said, many artists tend to use fishing wire due to its ability to cope better in all sorts of conditions. If you want to play and be as historically accurate as possible, then horsehair is something with which you can't go wrong; however, in modern conditions, I would argue that fishing wire is the better option. (Side note: playing a two-stringed jouhikko, it is advised to use different diameters of fishing wire due to a better variation in pitch. With things like the tagelharpa, it may be advisable to stick with the same diameter strings, as you have more strings in different tuning as it is.) For tuning, the "standard" - from what I know - is D G D G (with the latter G being an octave below the former). Some artists use other tuning though, but only changing the D and keeping the G tuning.
