Valheim, a $20, 1GB indie game did Vikings better than Assassin's Creed Valhalla, a $60, about 70GB AAA game. That's all you need to know about the current climate in gaming. Indie games are what I'm convinced, are keeping gaming fun at the moment
@SpookyShayOClery2 жыл бұрын
That doesn’t really make sense. This game is a fantasy adventure that just uses norse myth as a backdrop and as a way to contextualize magical stuff and thangs. Valhalla is supposed to be a glorified retelling of history. Both use a sort of pseudo historical aesthetic that takes certain elements from true history and blends them with modern Norse influenced iconography (vegvisir type symbols and stuff like that). Neither of them really ‘does Vikings’ better than the other because they both have completely different goals. It also doesn’t say much about the state of gaming, it says a lot about the state of Ubisoft and the value of a small team sharing a strong vision. Two games and one comparison can’t represent the entire landscape.

You have to get up and turn the light on, scanning the ceiling and walls for the little blighter and there it is, motionless on the lampshade. One well placed splat and it's goodnight Vienna for the mozzie. 5 people ... 5 PEOPLE made a game that's genuinely fun to play. Where you simply have a good time with yourself or friends. If only 5 individuals can do that, through a pandemic no less? Then Triple A developers with hundreds of staff have no excuses.
@SquareNoggin2 жыл бұрын
I kind of feel like people need to be less pessimistic about gaming. There's enough demand for the good stuff that it'll keep coming IMO. If the barrier of entry is low enough that five people can still pump out a masterpiece, then things are alright.
@EL-ISS2 жыл бұрын
@@SquareNoggin I understand what you're saying. And the market decides, so when a good game comes out people will flock to that. What my original comment means is, if only 5 people from an indie company can pump out a great game ... Why was Cyberpunk 2077 broken? Why do modders always have to fix Bethesda games like Fallout or Elder Scrolls? Why is Halo: Infinite STILL lacking maps and new game modes? All three of those games were made by massive studios with hundreds of dev staff. I'm not blaming the devs themselves but the corporation. These bastards ask for $70.00 USD for a game that's not even finished on release? It's robbery, and they need to always be held accountable. I'm seriously tired of corporations trying to f*ck us. They ruin all the best games. Call of Duty, Battlefield, Halo, etc etc. They're all ABSOLUTE sh*t now. They just give us garbage and expect $70.00 USD it's B.S. and if you get special editions, you're paying upwards of $120.00 USD, ridiculous ...

The meadows is peaceful and feels safe, and when youre inside your home structure its warm and cozy, but as you venture into the blacl forest and beyond the music gets grim and almost haunting. Theres so many aspects of this game the devs nailed, and I love that we have an indie publisher like Coffe Stain putting out these fantastic games (and goddamn is Satisfactory good. The most impactful moment i've had in video games in recent memory was stepping foot into the Black Forest in Valhiem. The change in music, the light being all but absent. The rows of tall trees. The foreboding, yet enchanting, energy emanating from this space. I step one foot in, and saw a "rock" move. It was a Troll who was down an incline, then it turned to look at me and I ran SO FAST and didn't look back till I was at my shack. Valheim is up there with Terraria for top games of all time, they hit the same gear progression fix, and they both do an amazing job of making you feel weak going into an area, but after a while you come out confident and able to handle anything the space could throw at you.
