Great video! Small tip for you; when raising the ground to a certain level, always aim at the edge of the ground you already lifted. That way it raises the next spot of the ground to the same level instantly although a bit higher. When i figured this one out, it made ground lifting less frustrating. It also saves a LOOOTS of stone!

Pro-Tip, you can dig pits to place workbenches and the like under the floor so that you'll have access to the ability to build and place items without having to have a work bench in the way. You can use stone floors if you build support beams to hold it up. I recommend placing an upgraded workbench under the steps to the dock or something so you can repair ships passing by.

Awesome sauce, and I'd suggest the iron wood beams and poles for elevation( they can stack up to around 50 and are a good foundation for any protruding or hanging builds)but are expensive resource wise.

You need not use cheats to make the raised area. 1. Just aim at your feet and raise up until it won't anymore. 2. Next aim right at the top edge of the cliff just nearly a few pixels from the edge, it will raise the ground infront of you to your level. 3. Repeat this until you have the platue you desire, then chisel it all flat with the lowest point as your reference for where to level out to. A base this size would use around... 2 maybe 3 regular chests worth of stone

This was a great idea! I just built my wife and me a castle in a little bay in a black forest between 2 swamp biomes. Infinite blood bag farm. Nothing can really attack the base except via the small land bridge to to front door! I'll have to try it on an island like that next time

Not sure if you are still playing, but you can make a drawbridge of sorts by using the large wooden doors closely together as the "floor" of your bridge. When you open them up, can be a straight drop into the water or a moat.

I linked my water islands together using raised ground causeways all the way to the shore. Yes the water is too deep sometimes so as you raise your island, you should not raise to max height. Notice the water level on how high it gets on stormy days and raise to just above that level. You can fill in with stone if you reach the max level to bring the height up. I play vanilla Valheim, no cheats or mods and its not that expensive to raise islands.

There is a hard limit for raising or digging into the terrain, based on its naturally spawned height. I found this out trying to terraform a sea wall that mobs couldn't swim around. I could only raise it by ~8-10m (eyeballing it here), which eventually followed the slope down into the sea. The terrain also becomes invincible once you've dug to a certain depth, so top-entry underground bases are also kind of limited until we can exploit our way around these things XD

Just do the drawbridge gap with the wooden gate doors if you want to make a land bridge from the mainland over to your water/island base. This will allow you to cart over metals without having to tediously ferry them over little by little. And when you not needing to cart anything across open the doors to leave the small gap that'll stop any creatures. You can just jump across easily. Or do the trick where you finish mining the ores up, log out and log in to different world save and store them in chest, log back in go to water base (teleport freely), log back out and go get metals from chest, then back in to base and transfer them from inventory to chest. (Kinda cheese tactics to manipulate the restriction of teleports but it'll work.) There's also mods that straight up remove that restriction. Valheim Plus let's you configure that if you want it on/off.

2 things. 1 it is refreshing to see someone who makes a video without godmode. 2 the depths problem is because you can only raise or lower land levels so much.

From what I've read, 16 "clicks" higher or lower than the original land height is the maximum amount of terraforming you can do, and the hoe's level ground feature can fudge that another 1 or 2 clicks worth.

You can only build until just before it says "Ocean". At least, you can only raise the Sea floor until that point. IIRC, you can go up or down 16m (Raise ground or Mine down) so if the Sea floor falls off quickly then you won't go far. But if it is a gradual slope out to the Ocean Biome then you may get VERY far out. You can also use Core Wood (Logs) to brace the Structure once the Sea floor cannot be raised any further and is much below the level of the water. It's a huge PITA because the camera stays above the water level while you're trying to build below it. Also, using Wood Iron Beams, you can go REALLY far out from the Island itself, allowing for a much larger footprint than the "Ground" you raised.

@@elreanafayn8542 I also just tested this out with a Bridge from the main land out as far as it would let me go, which was exactly to where it changed from Plains to Ocean on the Map. I can't raise the ground any further, and even with Log Poles (they only reliably make it 4 high (16M) everything is red. I made it exactly 2M into "Ocean" and everything else fails beyond that point.

I ended up building a water base, I wish I'd of waited to build a stone foundation, instead I built on wooden stilts and on the ground itself. It worked fine, but I like the look of a good stone foundation. Over all though I'm very happy with the result, my first day I got a "The Ground is Shaking" event, nothing spawned and it went away.

That's the real trick. Making a base within the game mechanics (and not cheating with the console command) that is able to withstand the assaults without making the base impossible to reach. The game AI just ignores you and your base is never tested otherwise.

oh wow, instead of looking for an already existing island i tried raising the ground from the shore all the way into the ocean to creat an island, ofc that didnt work out, since there is a height limit to ground raising... im fucking stupid lmao. ill look for an already existing island to build from there, idk why i didnt have that idea before lol. ty for the vid.

Tool tip if your raising the ground and you click the icon on the edge of the wall your building the ground will come to the top less resources are used.

I know this is over a month old but using the hoe whilst on the boat you can expand the base further to the ocean, Hold shift and look at the top of the side of the raised area and place another raise area no matter how deep it goes it'll build all the way up to that point and still only use 4 stone somehow

I had the same idea to take an island to build a base and was looking if anybody did the same already :D But I'm building a huge tower (50m high, 32m Ø) instead of a flat base.

That's odd, I was told you can raise the ground around 16 times and when I tested this I got the same result

I was wanting to make a lighthouse near my base and was trying to raise ground as much as possible and could only go 5 maybe 6 high and no more. I ended up just building on a rock and having to use wood iron beams to get tall enough.

I got a question, so if your out offshore from the plains biome mainland it'll still be considered that biome until you hit ocean biome so you can still grow the Plains biome restricted plants right? But will deathsquitos fly out to your island base since they can fly? Have you noticed if they do or not. I don't think deathsquitos are ever involved in base raids though so that's good that all the raid waves of enemies are all land ridden walking creatures and thus can't attack this style of base.

@@Cipher_8 there is a drake base raid after a certain boss is beaten on map. Nothing spawns at my island due to stone floors and the only land open is cultivated. Nothing from the mainland agros either because my base is not close enough.

Since watching this video I built my very own Sea Base and I can say (at least when building off the shores of The Plains) you are NOT safe. Fulings, Lox, Deathsquitos, Trolls, etc will spawn ON your Island even outside of Raids and just run around destroying everything you've built.

@@elreanafayn8542 I think I might know why NPC's spawn on the open Island while don't go anywhere near my "Keep" Island. No Workbench on the Farming Island. I built it all then destroyed the Workbenches so it didn't take away from the look I was going for. EDIT: Ok, after some testing it's not the lack of a Workbench. Now I'm thinking that since the Game is Procedurally generated that the newly raised Land (with vegetation, not wall to wall Buildings) the NPC's just literally spawn on it. I built this new Island as far out to towards the Ocean as I could get, and off of the Meadows Biome, same exact thing happens as my other Island.

On the 2 Island builds I have so far (Plains & Meadows) I have a "Keep" portion that consumes all of the available Land space connected via Bridge to an open Land portion for Farms and what not. In both cases I have NPC's spawn ON the open Land but NOT on or near the Keep.

Kudos to you. I usually avoid videos like this because they almost always cheat to do it. That turns a good game into microsoft paint so you might as well just use a paint program to make a picture. A base/home that comes up out of nothing while playing the game is what says it's a great game and an interesting build function. People should do what they want but you're lying to yourself calling it "using the console command". This creation done within the game is amazing. Doing it by cheating makes it a painted picture that doesn't need the game.

Hello there, quick question. Would you be willing to build across a narrow part of the ocean between to land masses? I'm found some nice areas but am struggling with the camera and trying to see what I'm building under the water. Plus I've seen massive builds, but my structure, even though the base is stone seems unstable

Every world has islands just off mainland. There's plenty of good seeds though that are handy for location of bosses/trader/ with large swamps & plains nearby.

Seed: HHcLC5acQt Pretty sure this is THE BEST seed for valheim, all 5 bosses and trader are super close to spawn. the final boss is a raft or bridge + swim to get to tho, all other bosses and trader are on the start island tho. It also has all the biomes on the main large start island for farming any materials you will need without sailing anywhere.
