Laurent was my first unit that died like 1 stage after I did his side story. He was my only lancer and he went down killing 2 tanks while taking shots from gatlings, scouts and snipers . It was such a badass way to go I couldn't justify reloading. I still miss my justice homie T_T

That's just to do with how the game handles that mission, you can't even have the person you appointed as Leader accompany Raz (though that's probably just to stop you doing some dickhead 1-turn Direct Command tech with a Scout with Double Movement).

The beginning of Ch.16 when you choose Raz's partner, their quotes is actually different than a regular selection and they're all unique like this ending sequence. I LOVE how Sega gave every single supporting cast their own unique lines, from the honourable to the afraid, but knowing full well this was to be a one way mission.

I got to this part once before years ago, but the mere prospect of having to choose one of my solders to sacrifice, let alone being forced to sacrifice Raz on top of that, caused so much dread and choice apprehension that I effectively quit without even playing the mission. I'm about halfway there on my new playthrough now, and this time I plan on finished the game and getting that ending, even if I am dreading this mission like a looming shadow throughout the entire run.

I love seeing how lively this topic is among players, and how ripe it is for each of us to spin our own narratives and justifications around it. I think part of why it hits so hard is because in most games the story takes characters away from *us,* and sometimes, it's a demand we even expect from certain kinds of stories. But this time,we had to make Claude's choice alongside him. WE had to send someone to die. Hearing the change in deployment dialogue from each of the characters gave me a minor panic. "Holy shit, they're actually going to die." Somehow, I feel like these final lines capture the essence of these characters more than the squad stories, and it genuinely hurts.

Just got around to this point after starting the game earlier this year, I feel like the "cannon" choice would've been either Zaiga or Vancey given their history with Raz. Also goddamn it he was my fav on character on the Feds side ;v; I went with Zaiga in the end but I tortured myself going through all the deployment lines and made me cry inside. The fact that they paid so much attention to the side characters unlike the first game just blows my mind. Even more so with all the Squad Story missions I've done up to this point. (For the record I only played the 1st and now this VC game) Fantastic character developments all around, one of the best I've seen from a video game or even most other media.

You aren't allowed to place anyone from Squad 7 with Raz, the game says something like "You are unable to place this person here", I just played the mission for the first time tonight and it was one of the first things I attempted after I realized each person had a special line for being placed with Raz haha.

spoiler they were gonna kill Raz off why not just give us the Hero potential every turn, I literally only got the potential twice out of 10 retries and once in each game. It would've been so cool to make raz go all out before he died. Also imo Zaiga as a partner is the most fitting one given that zaiga is the closest non-main character to Raz and all his potentials are Raz based
