IRL, Tresckow sent Fabian von Schlabrendorff to get the bomb, and Brandt wasn't the least bit suspicious; Tresckow had called him earlier, inquired casually if the package had been delivered, and when Brandt said no, he told the colonel to hold it--it was the wrong kind of brandy--and Schlabrendorff swapped it for some other bottles. Schlabrendorff later said that Brandt gave the package a jerk, and it took everything he had not to flinch.

In real life Col Brandt was none the wiser; when he returned the bomb he didn't suspect a thing. I do agree though that this portrayal makes him look reasonably suspicious, but that's probably just for dramatic effect.

Probably to test Treskow's reaction, sort of like in poker when you're trying to get a read on an opponent in a hand.

Does anyone know what the colonel meant with 'I took you for a non-sort, general'?
@chelseagirl9242 жыл бұрын
I took you for "another sort" insinuating he thought Tresckow might 'break rules' i.e. drink while on duty.

The general flipped his role from being on the defensive to taking the initiative in the conversation. Instead of trying to hide his reasoning for retrieving the liquor, he in a way threatens the colonel by asking how he thought Hitler might react to his officers drinking on duty. This puts fear in the colonel, and he basically is apologizing when he said, "I took you for another sort, general." Basically, "My bad, I thought you were more lenient in adhering to the rules." When the general responds with, "And I you." He's basically just continuing his 'role' as if to say, "I thought you were a respectable officer / one who wouldn't openly flaunt breaking regulations." Of course it all being an act to distract the colonel and stop the discussion about the liquor/bomb and get out of there as soon as possible.

What ranks are those officers to whom Bill Nighy says "at ease"?
@fan.80s_90s9 ай бұрын
Probably ranks of Lt, Captain, or Major. The one wearing the silver shoulder cord on his right shoulder is a military aide for one star General to four star General or sometimes for Colonel. If you notice Colonel Stauffenberg assistant, he too wore the same silver shoulder cord as he was appointed as a military aide for Colonel Stauffenberg.

@@fan.80s_90s The one in front with the adjutant shoulder cord is a major most likely. Interwoven silver cord on the shoulder strap, no obvious pip. One in the back seems to have two pips on straight shoulder boards, so captain. Another appears to be a first lieutenant (one pip). The one on the left with no pip is a second lieutenant.
