Great review, Owen! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the zealous. I went through a similar narrow truck arc as you. Went from Gold 2020 rogues P2s Valk Slaloms Zealous ZM1 It’s been super interesting to compare the difference that the inline axle has on grip for the rear truck on ZM1 & gold 2020s. After all my testing (and my local topography) I’m happy with my zealous for most open road skating days. If I want to try to go for a competitive win, ZM1s come out but after 2 years of slalom truck testing I’m finding myself having the most fun on 150-165mm trucks - freeriding and switch skating is really fun 😂

Thanks for another awesome gear review. With how people have been using full slalom front trucks for DH, I've been curious about these for a while.

*Beautiful trucks* 🤩 🤙🏼👌🏼👌🏼🤙🏼 Nice to get a closer look and an in-depth review! Pretty sure I already follow the 2 people/accounts you mentioned, they make nice content, didn't know you skate together, that's awesome 🤙🏼 Hopefully see those Precision Caliber 3's on the channel, love my Caliber 2s, I plan to buy the 3rd gen, raked cast version. to try some rake again.

Finally got some time to watch this, really great to hear your experience with them and you can tell you put WORK into this video. Here's my experience so far with them as my first slalom truck, coming from mk1 dh valks. They came stock with a 90a riptide krank barrel in the front and 93/96 krank in the rear. I noticed that at first they were super turny (scary for me to take down a garage), but as I got used to them they got more comfortable. It sounds like this is mostly from the pivot cups breaking in rather than my ankles getting stronger. Anyway, having a truck that lets you really lean into turns is amazing. So much fun to explore different lines in garages and 35 grip runs. M3's first corner (edge of grip corner) gave me a lot of first hand experience with rear truck grip, I've been playing with my rear angle and weight distribution to account for that, but it sounds like I've got something else to try with the bushing spacer in the rear. Slide initiation and the slide is butter, but like Owen says hookup can be aggressive, so I'll have to figure that out still. Another thing to play with is I did get an option for a bushing seat, so I'll try to see how that feels once I figure out the rear. I swapped out the front bushing for an 87a right after the season ended and rode it yesterday for the first time. I don't know how to feel about it yet, it's more restrictive than the 90a barrel, but it might give my ankles the stability they need for higher speed riding

I'll give short barrels in the back a try. Sounds like something I've been struggling with as well when taking tighter lines. I talked to Evan about the bolts and he said he included them exactly for the reason you said. Not because they wear out but if you lose one or even both you'll have a replacement. This is especially important for us Europeans since it's hard to get bolts in inch sizes here.

What formula did you use in the rear? Krank? I just ordered a set and I think I’ll be trying the krank barrel front and standard rear to start. I’m just not entirely sure what durometer to use yet. Any chance you have any advice for a starting point lol? I’m 180lbs.

Were you using the wheelbite blocker at first, when you were having a hard time getting the rear to grip?
@owencampbell777
@owencampbell777 5 ай бұрын
No, the wheelbite blocker was a very late addition. I only tried it for the first time 2 weeks ago, and I've had these trucks for 6 months.

Hi at first nice and good video! Sad that they doesn't fits for u style, but thats life. A while ago they post something about a new rear truck, maybe that set will fit better in combination for u. I'm not a racer, so i can't tell anything so far about how they work if u wanna take tight lines. I mount them at my draft by zenit, so not that common deck for them haha 😂 but for me its an awesome combination. I miss the adjustable bushing seat a bit of the MK3.0, but i think for most dudes the flat one fits good. They feel a bit of a mix of RKP and TKP to me. More narrow one, could be damn tight and pretend to get baseplate bites with big modern dh wheels😅 The adjustable baseplate got the advantage u easy play around and try which angle fits best for u or for a versatile set up for dh and freeride, to switch for different "modus". "Disadvantage" is of course higher price (but u get 6 baseplates in one), higher weight/longer (can stick out at some set ups) and more parts. So both got +-, i prefer fix one, becauae i know what angle fits for my style. With the spacer for the rear, why u just didn't get one by Valks? They sale some. I also love the rear truck for the kp clearance. Most other modern dh/slalom trucks got same design/geometry, just some personal style adjustments in shape, rake and bushing seat maybe. Btw why u want them more narrowed? For the rhino 115-125 or 130-140mm should be perfect, depends on wheel choice and personal preference. Wouldn't 100mm to "shaky"/unbalanced? Cheers from Germany

I'll respond to as many of your points as I can! The Draft is a really cool deck, I tried my friend's Draft on cast Ronins and AH Alphas and had a great time. Baseplate bite was something that I considered, but Scythe, Robot Oblivion, and ZM-1's all operate fine at 100mm so I would assume there wouldn't be much of an issue. I don't care about rail match, I just care about performance. Based on my testing, rail match doesn't matter. I didn't buy the wheelbite blocker from Valkyrie because it seems like a waste of money when I can easily DIY them at home. Narrower trucks aren't much more unstable than their wide counterparts unless you're riding rough, chunder roads. Many racers are starting to ride 100mm trucks these days.

@@owencampbell777thanks for U fast reply. Yeah not a grip and rip set up, but a lot of fun. With baseplate bites depends of course on geometry and bushings, I just remember that at my 115mm Valks with Mavericks where pretty close😅. Maybe it's just personal preference, but if the trucks plus wheels are to much narrow, compare to deck width it felt tipsy/sensitive 😅 I didn't mean the wheelbite blocker, I mean the bushing spacer, so U can run regular size bushings. Where they self-made really cheaper, with all the afford to make them(have no idea how much afford it needs haha)?

@Beardboarder It cost me almost nothing to make the bushing spacer with my 3D printer. I think Valkyrie sells them for $12 USD + shipping, but theirs are CNC machined from aluminum.

Out of curiosity, would trying short barrels on other precisions, would it achieve a similar effect or is it valk specific? Also, what do you think about the cheetah hawgs?
@owencampbell777
@owencampbell777 5 ай бұрын
Valkyries especially benefit from short barrels because they rely on the barrel for slop-stopping. Rogues, Ronins, Scythe, and other trucks use things like insert bushings, spherical bearings, and queenpins to stop slop so the bushings don't have to work as hard. I think you might notice SOME benefit from short barrels on other trucks, but the improvements will be less pronounced than I experienced with the Valkyries. I made a review of the Cheetahs. It should be easy to find if you search for it! I really like them, but the purple (90a) version has niche use cases. They're still fun to skate in most situations, but they are only OPTIMAL if on specific roads. So, just to preface, the review has a more negative tone than I intended. I really love the Cheetahs. I just had to spend a long time explaining that they won't be competitive for racing UNLESS the road has some specific qualities.

I do remember the cheetahs review! I've always wanted a set just because they looked dope! I'll probably pick some up if they're on a big sale

Great review! Question: 1:58 "Giving the kingpin nut 1-2 turns"......Does 1 turn = full 360° rotation of the nut? I never really see info on preload recommendations/specifications for different brands of bushings Venom, Riptide, Hardcores...etc I know this is subjective and will very widely with each skater and setup but it would be nice to see a Minimum/Maximum or even recommended preload specification sheet for each bushing brand. This would make an awesome video subject for a future video! If anyone has heard of or seen a spreadsheet regarding this matter please post. Much appreciated. Cheers!

Yes, to me, 1 turn is 360 degrees. I think preferences are too subjective to make a spreadsheet with any objective claims, but I’d still love to see someone try
