Hello Owen, I always enjoy reading your in-depth reviews. I am a rider who enjoys gradually increasing the speed and difficulty by gradually increasing the wheel width and decreasing the hanger length. I've recently been thinking about purchasing my first narrow precision truck. The thing I'm most interested in right now is a zealous truck, and your review was very helpful (even though there are very few zealous truck reviews). One thing I'm curious about is, does the kingpin on the rear base plate(even if wedging it about 6 degrees to make it about 25 degrees) make it impossible to core a wheel (not only small freeriding wheels but also downhill wheels with larger cores)? It's a pessimistic guess because it has a low angle and tall bushings, but I'm a rider who enjoys coring, so I'm asking just in case.

To me Ronins always felt like an undoubtedly high performance truck, but overly-optimized and unfun in nature. Honestly I think they're over engineed for most casual sessions. Great for racing, but racing is only a small part of most people's skating. I've been on both generations of cast Ronin and billets from 154mm to 174mm.

Could you make a video on how you design and make 3d printed stuff? Footstops/wedges/torque blocks? I remember you showing using Inventor and your hand contour for puck risers and I really enjoyed seeing that. Obviously this might cut into possible patreon subs, but I think its a really cool part of your boards/channel and I'd love to see how you do it. You could also just make the video patreon only; that would get a sub out of me for sure.

I have had plan to frankenstein a race tail like that by chopping and old dh board and bolt the cut off on top. I would really like to pair it with a set of narrow width split angle trucks but I can't justify a purchase like that at this time.

Hey have you put 80mm wheels on these trucks? I feel like risers might be necessary depending on the board. I appreciate the review.
@owencampbell777
@owencampbell777 Ай бұрын
Largest I used were 79mm Cuei A1, and the widest I used were 78mm Magnums. I had no issues with wheelbite. If your deck has flush mounts that lower the ride height, you might need risers.

@@owencampbell777 I am in the process of setting up a landyachtz blaze. The mount is recessed but so are the wheel wells! I took a few light runs in the neighborhood with 80.5 alphas on 1/4 in risers and then went down to 1/8. Idk how confident I would be to send it without risers though. I very much appreciate your insight. Makes me feel pretty good knowing you are getting away without risers on these low trucks. This is my entry to narrow hangers and it only took a few short runs to understand why you guys are killing it on such small set ups 💯

WFB is like around 6A's lower than HPF in terms of hardness. 93A WFB feels similar to 87A HPF imo. Your front trucks are not softer than double pink Venoms? edit: WFB orange (78A) and green (73A) would make it feel comparable to HPF 72A (approximately the pink) and 67A (no HPF duro available).

Is this a good wheel Just for cruising ?
@flurpoid
@flurpoid 12 күн бұрын
Probably decent for cruising. But personally I find these wide race wheels to be pretty heavy for a cruising wheel. Also these higher rebound wheels tend to ride a little rougher, so not an ideal attribute for cruising.

Love these trucks. They really blew me away. Your review is on point. I played around with these a bit to increase the slalom aspect by adding cone bushings roadside. I got real deep turns out of them. The cones defeat the restrictive bushing seats. A nice hack if you wanted to run cones with these. I know a few people running Zealous for GS slalom racing. A little slow on reaction for tight or most hybrid for me but these are a DH free ride truck and not a true slalom truck. But I will say this is one of the best purchases I’ve made in years. The Zealous trucks are a delight to ride.

Generally boards with micro-drops don't need foot stops because the drop is a good reference feature for your foot, and often times the foot stop sits weird on the drop concave. However boards that are only rockered or flat lenghtwise really can benefit from having a foot stop so you have that extra reference point. I rode with a footstop for several years then many more without. Recently I went back to footstops and really appreciated the confidence they bring when stringing together several back to back slides/turns where your feet can shift around a bit. Having a good reference feature for your front foot allows you to shift your feet without having to looking down - which is huge when riding technical terrain so your eyes stay on the road.

Im looking to get these trucks as my first dh slalom trucks. What are your favorite dh/freeride wheels for techy stuff? Not looking for wheels that grip like a vice but i want something that'll slow me down smoothly. Im not a racer, I just like having fun and skating hard-ish. Thanks for the review and any help!

I think you would enjoy Muirskate Phat Boyz. They’re pretty grippy with skin but they turn into really comfortable DH wheels. I experienced smooth slides, even while they had fresh skin and lips. If you want something with more roll speed, the LDP version of the Seismic Alpha is fast as hell and isn’t as race-focused. They’re narrower and the lips aren’t as sharp, so they’re more comfortable to slide

I borrowed a set from a buddy for a week but it I didn’t get the chance to mess with the bushings, they were set up pretty similar to how I normally ride my trucks but they felt pretty dead and not lively on slow paths (~30kmh) but felt great on fast runs, it’s what’s stopping me from buying a set cause I skate paths a lot, have you noticed that or does the deadness go away with tuning the bushings?

3 years later I just bought these. On my trip to Asheville I learned snakes are great for learning slides, but I needed a wheel with some grip and a large contact patch. These wheels are a good price so wearing them down won't break the bank.
