I love Earthwing’s philosophy towards skating, their concaves aren’t my cup of tea, but they are definitely a brand that’s actively promoting and trying to get newer riders in the sport with affordable products. Which I can’t say the same for some brands.

It's on my list of things to do, it just hasn't been a priority of mine amongst other reviews that have been sponsored by companies or Patrons. As of right now, I can't fully explain the physics of how weighted freeride boards work. I don't have a full grasp of the subject, I just have a loose understanding of the benefits.

You think I can Rit dye the 74a wheels?? I want to Rit dye them red, and color the cores black. I looked everywhere on the internet and no one seemed to rit dye them. Imagine if you did a video of exactly that 😂😂

It's been shown many times, particularly in the e-skate community, that Rit dye is pretty effective at changing the color of wheels. I think I've seen tutorials on Reddit and KZbin about how to do so. Check those out! Aesthetic changes aren't really an aspect of this sport that I'm interested in, so I don't plan on doing a video about it.

What are zero-drop shoes?
@nickamarit
@nickamarit 6 күн бұрын
@owencampbell777 Zero drop shoes are shoes where the stack heights (outsole+midsole+insole thicknesses) of the heel and forefoot are equal. My skate shoes (Fitflop Collins Leather) initially wasn't zero drop because the insoles had a thicker heel than forefoot. The outsole and midsole are flat and completely level though. So I swapped out the insoles for a flat one to make my shoes zero drop. Before the mod, I had some trouble with heelside leverage but no issues with toesides. Now after the mod, I feel like all my heelside stuff are a lot more responsive than before, while toeside stuff remained the same (they're about equal bothways now).

I think they accommodated for it in the design. If the bushing seats are far enough apart, then the spherical won't interact with the bushing
@ChEeSeOnUrBuNs
@ChEeSeOnUrBuNs 7 күн бұрын
@owencampbell777 A good way to check is assemble the trucks with no bushings and articulate the truck back and forth to see if the inside part of the spherical would come in contact with the bushings. If it does come in contact, I'd assume they didn't cut the bushings to act as a damping effect to reduce twitching.

Hi Owen, thank you for this review of the aeon! Very informative! When you mentioned the bushings not fitting properly, I couldn't help think about this video where they showed how in normal bushings a channel can be melted away with a soldering iron for use in an aeon truck. It's kind of sad to see how, in fact, this trick has to be used to make even the original bushings fit properly. But also, I really hope you give the soldering iron fix a try and make a vid about if it improved the truck at all! The vid in question is kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4S2mqB4jM-Zg80 BTW, I'm in no way affiliated with any skating company or anything. Just a guy hoping to save himself from spending bucks on sucky trucks!
@owencampbell777
@owencampbell777 15 күн бұрын
Hey there! Thanks for the suggestion. I've seen the video about modifying bushings to fit the trucks, which could be a nice solution to make these work better. Unfortunately, I've already given away these trucks as a prize in our local slide jam, so I can't make any further videos about modifying them. I was aware of the potential to modify bushings at the time of recording, but I decided to not go down the rabbit hole because I felt like the best use of my time was to review the trucks from the perspective of a first-time buyer. I feel like it's a huge misplay by Seismic to make a truck that requires proprietary bushings that don't even work, and it sucks to have to modify bushings to even give them a chance at good performance. Regardless, I'm extremely skeptical of if they can perform well, even after modification.
@BCosemans-t5b
@BCosemans-t5b 15 күн бұрын
@@owencampbell777 Thanks for letting me know how you think about their performance after modification. It really settles me into the "don't try em" mindset. I just found out you can actually cut down most trucks in width by only cutting through the aluminum and leaving the inner axle, so that actually frees up a whole bunch of trucks for alternative use in narrow sizes!

Been considering both this board and the Arbor DH Voltage as I'm planning to set up a smaller board. Slightly bummed it's a Madrid product, as I've had better experiences with Earthwing's own construction than Madrid's. And I might be mistaken, but isn't the Cam Brick concave mold just the Nessie mold? I believe some product video on the Brick mentioned that. Also keen to see what you think of those Trotta pro wheels.

great job on bushing size testing, I got the zm1 not long ago and i completely agree overall, some unordered remarks * 20-25° back is definitely a game changer for freeriding as soon as you get some speed * For kingpin slop, i think this is not a real issue : if you see some, your kingpin should be easy to remove. So just hammer it gently 3cm, wrap it in any glue you want (i use locktite) and use bushings and washers to pull it back from the other side : wont move anymore for a while * Always have been a rogue fanboy, but this tends to increase as i improve : i noticed several minimal play between parts in the zm1, tried to fix it but it made the trucks impossible to dismount, went back to normal and i'm forced to admit they are impressive pieces of engineering : the play seems to be there for ergonomic purpose, it makes the trucks surprisingly easy to dismount, and the "all spherical" design makes them "self center" at speed. I'm not fast enough to find the limit. * Last thing on the zm1, i could not personaly ride that stock bushing combo, at 30km it was already way to reactive for me, as soon as i replaced the pink bushing in front it got perfect. nothing to be said about the rear truck, it just works and grips super good Good work, thanks !

Hello! It's literally the same width as a flat washer. That seems to be the width that they were over milled. The urethane ones I feel just allow further compression into the baseplate. After all, double tall bushings exist for more compression, so I thought why not this little shim also add to that? Now NOT ALL RUNS OF THESE TRUCKS HAVE THIS ISSUE. Like 2 out of the 3 or so batches, but I shit you not 9/10 gold rogues I see in the wild have this issue.
