As an old Black Watch piper for the last 20 years in Fairbanks Alaska it is an absolute joy to hear these great 'Men of Argyll'. I as a perthshire lad understand how important History is i looked after Glen Etive for Robin Fleming for most of the ninties, it is to record and 'wow' what sharp clarity we have here, many many thanks for Historic recordings, sorry i had to pick up the chanter for the last tune here in the garage. Many many thanks for such a marvelous Do !

After playing pipes for 48 years I wish I played with this much clarity, these 3 pipers displayed the best performance I have ever seen. They demonstrate that even the simple 2/4's & 4/4's can sound amazing played with heart and soul. I would have listened to this at least 2-3 times a week since I came across it.

I am German and pretty sure that i don`t have any celtic blood in my veins. But why does this music make my tears flow ? Why does it move me so much ? I am not religious at all, but if something like reincarnation exists, i *must* have lived in Scotland in an earlier life. This piping here is pure Gold.

It's the science of 2 different frequency (220 and 110 let's imagine in tune with his 440 low A) thus giving a combo that goes right through a person , some like it others find it annoying.... these guys give me chills with such talent and good tuning

Will try and make a very very far link here. Holy Roman Empire was part of some parts of Italy and Germany. Bagpipes were orignally made in Europe ( mainly Spain) and were brought to Scotland by the Romans. So maybe your family in Germany were playing them and maybe thats why you love them... :)

I loved Highland Wedding and Cameronian Rant as Hornpipes. I can imagine that after playing those tunes over and over in competition they would lose their shine and an otherwise bored player might start to see what else you could do with those same collection of notes. Very clever and entertaining, and oh, so musical. Well done Terry and Stuart!

Blowpipe length has a lot to do with it. A lot of novice Pipers have their pipes set up at the mail order shop and don't bother to properly fit the length of the blowpipe properly. Just relying on your height is not a way to get a good fit. That's why you see a lot of novices with their heads turned to one side, or if the pipe is too short, they're hunched over.

I’m glad there was marches, strathspeys and reels etc. The usual trend of playing tunes, some of them not very tuneful, faster and faster for long periods of time is no doubt very skilful, but it can get really boring after a while. I wonder if any of these guys with their superb tone, provided the sound samples for the Blair chanter.
