Thanks to Harold Carefoot Jr. for all the information about Valley Schuss! Be sure to follow ‪@valleyschussVS6080‬ on KZbin, and on Facebook ( / 1306084599900793 ) for so much more Valley Schuss history than would fit in this one episode.
Ontario has an incredible ski scene today. While there are 57 operating ski resorts in this province today (give or take a few), just a few decades ago, Ontario could have had as many as 40 additional ski areas. All these mountains are now lost to time. One such ski area is Valley Schuss - today remembered by few. However, in its heyday, it was a respectable mountain, boasting a 325-foot vertical drop serviced by 3 T-Bars. Perhaps even more inspiring is the legacy of the 2 men who built Valley Schuss. Building a ski area is no easy feat, yet these two men accomplished the impossible. This video will discuss the story of not only Valley Schuss, but Lloyd Edwards and Harold Carefoot St. - the two visionaries who constructed the mountain.
The Lost Resorts is a weekly video series that focuses on the history of lost ski resorts in North America. New episodes release every Thursday at 5:15am MST (unless otherwise notified). Join me as we take a look at the forgotten resorts, that were once bustling lively enterprises.

Great information. Skied VS on Wednesdays with ODSS ski club. 1968 to 1970. got out of school before last period and skis until sunset. Finally moved to Hockey Hills t-bar. When I started in the Valley there were 8 skis hills there.

Thanks for your memories! It's crazy that there's only 1 ski hill left in the Hockley Valley from 8 once operating.

Neat! I had no idea there had been another ski hill in the Orangeville area. I worked as a lifty at Hockley in my last year of high school (07/08) and had a great time with the crew there.

Actually, there were around 5 ski hills in the Hockley Valley. Cedar Highlands and Hockley Valley were the only ones remaining until Cedar Highlands closed around 2007.

@@Skier72 huh, I should have been aware of Cedar Highlands as I was skiing all around the area and further away around that time. Bummer that there isn’t as much available locally anymore as there had been.

@@DasWauto Actually my mistake, there were at one point around 7-8 ski areas in the Hockely Valley. This video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXSye4atoLKEack ) does a pretty good job of explaining the short history of those places. It's quite shocking that now only Hockley Valley is still in operation.

I'll see - at the end of the day it all comes down to if I have enough information to justify making a full video

I've passed this place many times, but never knew there was a ski area there, let alone a lost one. I'd imagine if VS was still around, they would have replaced at least one (or both) of the longer t-bars with fixed grip triple or quad chairs from Poma (now Leitner-Poma) or BM Lifts.

Yeah there were quite a few ski areas in the Hockley Valley. Nowadays the only one still around is Hockley Valley Club.
