Great review! Agree on all the points. This is one we play with our two boys with Dad or Mom playing as Mordak and the other helping them with their characters. If players aren't familiar with their characters or playing well, Mordak can be rather strong... I found myself pulling back a bit with Mordak so the party has a good time! The game does run long, and the party should definitely scout slowly to not get overwhelmed - that is probably the biggest piece of advice to give the adventurers... Explore slowly!

I'm much more of a solo gamer but this game has really pulled me in. Not sure what it is about it, and with the announcement that the new game will have Solo mode and be cross compatible with everything from this game, I think it's worth investing into.

Have been waiting for this review, to see if out tastes align. We have been playing our copy frequently and really enjoy the 'slap stick' take that. It fits with the theme/artwork style of game. Surprised at the length of your games, ours are regularly 2 hours in length, with up to 4 heroes. When I play Murdoch, My family enjoy beating me. Looking forward to expansion/ next game for more content and some solo play. We are cut from a similar 'gaming cloth, as always thanks for all your efforts and content generation.

I literally just pulled out the rule book yesterday to learn the game for our game night tonight. How many players have you played with and it different amounts, has that affected game length at all? We're playing with 4, possibly 5

More players takes more time for sure. 5 players can make it painful in my experience. I end up with people playing on phones, and generally doing other things between turns.

Hey can you do a vid on lengths of games, and generally why you rather have a shorter game vs a longer game? Cause personally I have the opposite experience, people generally like a long game in my game group, upwards in the 2hr-3hr mark, and if a game take 45min-1hr people tend to not be satisfied with that one game. I am assuming its because in a day you can play more games if their shorter as opposed to if their longer.

I was wondering, can you : Make a ranged attack (to an adjacent tile) --> Move to melee (move to an adjacent tile) --> Make a melee attack ? Or you are not able to switch between moving / attacking ?

Wish this had an automa for Mordak. I mainly play 2P so hopefully there'll be co-op content in the upcoming sequel which can also be used with the original.

@@BoardGameCo Yeh I'm looking forward to the KS launch. Though so far I prefer the outdoor setting of the original map tiles compared to what looks to be sewers/tunnels in the sequel. If it comes with an automa for Mordak then sign me up for the All In! 😝

@@Tokioka There's an add on in the new campaign that lets you run Mordak as an AI. You can use it in the Labyrinth or in the outside map from the original game.

(i have and played it a couple of time) This game falls in my category of "must use timer" games. I've learn that games with ALOT of communication need to have a timer so it doesnt drag to long and this is one....i highly recomend doing a combined time for the heroes,like 10min total, and a 5min for mordak. That can make it a 2 Hours game(with 8 rounds). I liked this game but yes,if you dont rush the players it takes to long to finish

I played the week that arrived and never managed to play again. Like you said, as heroes my game group were fweling so powerless as complaining that I as Mordak felt bad for them. Deducting from my own objective to give them a chance at times so to keep them engaged. Maybe it isn't for us, altho I want to try 1 or 2 plays more before taking a final decision. You know what is funny? This speaks agains me even looking at their next game, even if it is a completely different genre.

Is Mordak played by a player or do they (Mordak and Minions) have their own engine that players use during enemies turn?

Mordak is played by a player, it's a one versus many game. The new version of the game that's currently on kickstarter (Ludwig's Labyrinth) is a co-op game where the minions and boss is run by the game, and there's also an add on that will let you face Mordak as an AI as well.

It is a very fun and exciting game. We have fun with the game every time we pull it out and play. I agree the length of the game is long. Especially when you are first learning how to play. We feel the exact same way you do about Mordak. In all of our games Mordak as only won once out of 5 games. Great review. Love the channel and content.

@@BoardGameCo Your camera is too far up. I assume that’s to get as wide a shot as possible. Lighting is fine as is framing but there was no detail on the player boards or the cards. I was lost with what you were trying to explain. Watched on a 12.9 ” iPad Pro 4G set as high as it would go...for what that is worth.

We've found there's too much time between player turns to keep everyone's attention. I want to be able to play this with people that aren't acid gamers but it just ends up too long and boring by the end.

Bought it on a whim. After watching this… forget it. Returning it. Too much going on, too long. Looks beautiful. I thought there would be more card-play. And repeat cards… predictable after 1 game. Pass….
