Wasn't expecting it, didnt realise Sherwin Williams were manufacturing until recently so seems thats the reason on how much its improved. Always remember it being rubbish. Great vid as always Phil.

Hi Phil, good to see these reviews on all the modern paints, myself as an apprentice one of first things we learnt was keeping a wet edge going. Especially ceilings back then in early 70’s we stock brushed everything cutting in with the stock brush from memory about 8” wide. We also used valsoar in the solvent based for woodwork or as you like to say (Trim ) 😁. Was frowned upon using acrylic (acky) so it’s refreshing to see how modern paints have come on. So got myself some nice arrowoth brushes to help my son out in his new house. I Like the look at the eco brush. Keep the reviews coming.

Hi Phil Paul hear professional painter and decorators. Bit late watching the video on valspar trade tough matt. Just done a redec bungalow hallway. Customer was adiment on the same colour previously painted in valspar. Couldn't get in mixed near close at Dec Venter so had to bite the bullet and buy valspar vinyl matt. My honest review would be leave it at B&A it don't grin mate it bloody laughs at you 3 costs on same colour. Great 👍 videos much appreciated 👍

Thanks for the review Phil, personally I'd be more inclined to go into b and q for my gear if they sold decent sundries aswell. I'm afraid Diall and unibond stuff just won't cut it for a pro, fine for a diy'er but i can pick everything up in one hit at the merchants. I also think there should be more of an incentive if they want deccys in, maybe a seperate counter for us and a much better loyalty scheme than the one they presently run. In saying all that, the staff at my local tradepoint are absolutely brilliant and they can't do enough for me when i go in for other bits and bobs so big tick for the service. Would you say the valspar is as good as the isomat premium?

Thanks. It will depend what paint you're needing. A tough matt or just a basic matt paint. Crown aren't bad priced. But move away from estimates to quotes. You'll not make.money on estimates as they go up and down. A fixed price for the job is what you want to start looking at.

Yo Phil! I’ve got a job coming up soon and it’s a built in handcrafted Hydrofugo MDF wall cabinet? I’ve not come across Hydrofugo MDF and if I have I’ve not been made aware of it? Apparently it’s a moisture resistant MDF? The customer is saying she’s read to put 2 coats of Rust Oleum kitchen cabinet paint on it but I’ve said it’ll need priming first (I was thinking 123) but also what finish would you recommend for a hardwearing flat finish? I was thinking Tik Helmi but any suggestions would be great especially for a suitable primer if you’ve painted this kind of MDF before? Cheers boss!!

Hi phil...a bit off topic from this video but I have a DIY question if your able to offer any advice please🙏 ...after a leak in the bathroom upstairs the ceiling downstairs has a crack..1 side of the crack has dropped a couple off mm, its not much but I can visibly see its dropped, I cant get under the bath to lift the floorboards to add an extra peice of timber where I would need to to give me something to screw the dropped side of the ceiling into😢... any suggestions on how to proceed? I'm thinking my only option is to use some mud and tape to repair the crack and spread the mud out a foot or so either side of the crack so the drop isn't so visible but im worried the ceiling not being gripped up on the side where its dropped and has a slight movement in it will just result in the crack reoccurring. Any suggestions would be great 👍
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Жыл бұрын
That sounds the easy way to it, some tourpet skim and fill maybe something to look at that can 'float' the area out. Allow to dry, sand and paint. If you have the water stain showing.... Spray some polycell stain block a couple of light coats (rattle can)

@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Жыл бұрын
@@montyloads how wide is it, if it's not going to move, don't worry, rake it out, you could always run some peel stop along the edge incase any paint looks like it could flake off, then fill it and smooth it a level as you can.
@montyloads Жыл бұрын
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator its not so much wide to be honest...if it hadn't dropped a mm or 2 on one side of the crack I would just channel it out and fill it I suppose, if I push the side thats dropped back up lvl with the other side the width is minimal. but as one side of the crack has dropped slightly lower it gives the appearance of a wide crack and without getting under the floorboards located under the bath tub I cant get something to screw that side into so I'm just gonna be filling over the crack and trying to bridge the gap and float it out and hope its not so visible..... I appreciate its hard to visualise without actually seeing it. I'll give it a go and hope for the best 😬.. I appreciate you taking the time to help.. thank you 👍👍

Checkout their high end range V&Co. They've released a version of the farrow and ball equivalent "dead flat" for half the price. And supposedly it's better. I'm going in there tomorrow to get some and try it out for the first time on a job I'm doing. We'll see what it's like.

hi Phil... I used this recently and left a review on the Dec Forum on Facebook, think this is the reason you are giving this a review? But I found it terrible with the blue..... have used it a dozen times before with no problems and thus maybe a bad batch? Even durablitly was poor..... customer had marked wall moving a bed and I thought I would give it a wipe to see if it was a mark that would wipe off..... actually found the cloth turning blue as paint was coming off the wall. Outcome was a credit for 15L from Valspar due to these problems...... but give it a wipe and see if it is tough or was it my dodgy tin? At mo I have returned to using Johnstones Durable Acrylic as lost faith with Vlalspar and credit for new tins sits in the draw.

@SentinelSays8 ай бұрын
That’s a tough one, pun intended. I hate B&Q with a burning passion, but a cracking product is a cracking product. Perception really does play a part with clients though, I’ve had a few scoff at my materials when using ScuffX because “It’s not Dulux” despite me explaining that being an infinitely more premium product, so I think it’s entirely variable on the client and the work I’m doing at the time. If I’m decorating and being left the keys, then I won’t worry about the name on the tin if the product cuts the scampi. But then again, I’m one that, like you, has built a reputation over years of consistency and workmanship. Means that my regulars understand I only use the products that do the job right and stand up to scrutiny, so they can trust my word that the product is spot on. Still dislike dealing with Brewers too though. My local has staff that talk to you like you’re completely inept and try to avoid putting the discounts on hoping you haven’t noticed 🤣

true words. all paints have there place.. for certain jobs... once you get to the mid/higher quality paints... there's not much between them really, If you've already tried them you can advice according. Our Brewers is realy good, known the manageress 34yrs this year as our paths have always crossed with her previoulsy working for W Robinsons which then got bought out by ICI/Dulux... then she left and went to Brewers about 10yrs ago
@SentinelSays8 ай бұрын
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Very true. Try it all and then you have a Rolodex of appropriate products that fit the bill and you can tailor up or down based on job requirements or client price sensitivity. Do have some love for ScuffX and the super high end stuff, but only when the need is there, such as the local care home group I have a contract with. But as you said there’s little in it between the mid to high end outside of those times. Miss my old Brewers though, they were great. When I moved, this one was a culture shock. Always glad to work further out so I can go out to a better one. Paintwell is my main haunt now, can’t complain too much…..it’s not B&Q!

It's quite simple. If the quality of the paint matches quality of any paint of a similar finish, and it is cheaper, you would be a bit stupid to go and buy something else at twice the price. I for 1 would be questioning that estimate. Everyone wants values for money and if I know I'm being ripped off the person knows about it.

@Phil Beckwith The Professional Painter & Decorator bottom line for me is I'm trying to make money, so if b&q are £10 cheaper for a tin of the same gear then I have no problem using b&q.
