I love how you ask if they wear it (and encourage them to if they don't). My mother has a pin we call the "oh my god" pin because that's what the appraiser said when he saw it. It really is stunning (platinum and diamonds). It is a family piece but I have never known anyone to have ever worn it. I asked my mom why (we have had plenty of special events!) and she says "people just don't wear pins like this any more". She has always wanted to take the diamonds out to make earrings, a pendant etc. But I think she can't bring herself to destroy the pin because it us so beautiful. I guess I just don't conform to the fashion of the day. I think if you love it, wear it and enjoy yourself. Who cares if nobody else wears something like that nowadays?

I usually say that Mom is always right, but in this case tell her Dr. Lori said to "Wear it!" :) Does she know you want it at some point?

I have told her, but I also asked to wear it at a family event and was denied. Handing down the pin isn't an issue in her eyes because there won't be a pin. (Edit: she is now in her 80s and has intended to deconstruct the pin for 30 years)

I found you by accident I typed in a friend's name in youtube bar thinking I was on Facebook and there you were and I totally have been watching and forgot why I needed to look my friend lori up lol here on yt!!! It just so happens I also just got into buying jewelry lots and reselling the stuff I don't want ...My aunt is an expert who started in the 50s with collecting and antiques. Her husband and her traveled the world collecting the 1st couple of years they were married and went back to Louisiana and sold it and kept collecting eventually opening stores and deciding it was too chancy letting the public in so they closed to the public but still have clients from up north...Her name is Mary and she is the coolest person I know and funny like you too...and you should meet...we are kindred spirits my hubby said whoever was on video sounded a lot like me with her comedy lol I love it...Happy people are the best!!! Smart and funny!!! You and my aunt have got to meet one day she and I would love to meet you!! I am eager to know jewelry before I die and consider myself an amateur still after 3 years .... Dr Lori, I have a piece of sea pottery I got from a seller in north Israel yrs ago . I got it in a lot of sea pottery and sea glass. I didn’t notice one special piece at first , but after wrapping it to make a ring I seen it . There is ancient letters on this piece , I wrote Israel’s department of antiques ( I can’t spell the proper term ). But they told me it wasn’t ancient Hebrew . They wanted me to get it to someone else . I think now it’s older maybe Ancient Greek? Can you look at it ? It maybe something important, it’s amazing this one piece that has been rolling around in the ocean for who knows how long . It’s amazing . Thank you Dr Lori

Good question! People use my online appraisal reports to help them sell. The reports include a location where a similar piece sold and for how much. One person used my report to sell a plate for over $1,000. They bought it at a yard sale for $1.

Hi Brendan, Two different services. The Priority Ask Dr. Lori subscription allows unlimited submission during your subscription. You receive email replies directly from me answering your specific questions. Some ask about value, some about history others how to sell, etc. Best if you have a lot of stuff and are trying to get through valuing it. The Online Appraisals provide a written report prepared by me. Best if you only have a few items and would like a written report.

I just found your videos tonight and subscribed. YOU, my dear lady, are a wealth of knowledge! I'll probably never get to see you in person, so I have a question. I picked of this very unusual pendant at a flea market about 40 years ago. It looks like a very ornate German cross with a cabochon green stone in the middle. Years ago, I had one appraiser tell me it was at least a 100 years old and was handmade. The back of it has hand drawn ".999 fine Jerusalem silver". I've been told it was a Pilgrim's Cross. Many of jewelers have wanted to take the stone out, to see if it is an emerald. Of course, I'll never do that or leave it with anyone. Without seeing it, what do you think. Even the back of it is elaborately designed. Oh yes, I paid $2 for it! Thank you and I'll continue to follow you!❤

When I was about 10 years old I decided to have a indoor yard sale in the living room my dad said go ahead have one little did he know that I was going into my mother's jewellery box and she was sick she was suffering from depression and I didn't know what was going on and she was sleeping all day so I decided to go into the jewellery box and sell her gold necklaces and her rings. And I was having fun with this old cash register and I told my friends in school to come to my yard sale now this was almost 60 years ago and so I remember selling my mom's gold rings yeah I know I was a brat, but at the time I just thought it was fun I didn't really think it was that bad. Until the neighbour came over returning my mother's set of wedding rings apparently I sold these rings to her daughter for $0.50. LOL can you imagine can you imagine and I was so naive and dumb. I'm blond but don't tell me any blonde jokes right now cuz it just might be fitting LOL
