I was hoping I could do my own spark plugs but after watching your very detailed good video i now know why we take this bikes to the dealer Gone are the days of servicing your own bike just to many things to disconnect and remove why the hell they make them like that no wander why the Himalayan bike is great around the world travel bike

Yes , Gone are they days of a cylinder with a carb and an air filter. Fuel injection, emissions, advanced electronics. They have to put it all somewhere. My Vstrom was involved but in some ways easier. This is a job that would be very hard the first time and would be a piece of cake the next time and some of these valve adj would be $500 at a dealer. Himalayan is great as long as you aren't in a hurry, But with high tech R and D like honda has you get perfomance and 70mpg.

The problem is not with fuel injection, the real problem is with the amount of work that you need to do to change a spark plug. When I see how easy is to service a Royal Enfield, I wander why we still buy Honda. In 2 years, I have 3 bolts that are longer. 2 from the engine mounts and 1 from the caliper. Honda bolts are.... Crap.

I hear you. Luckily spark plugs last a long time. Changed m v stroms at 15k but only because I had it apart for valves.

Dear, I would greatly appreciate it if you could explain to me the reduced power of the HondaCB500X. It should have 35kw, but mine has 25kw. This is what is written in the traffic license. The motorcycle was bought used in Switzerland. What is the mechanical procedure of restoring 35KW??? Thank you.

The hardest thing about doing the valve clearances is taking off the cam cover !!!!

thanks. I am at the gap measuring stage. My gaps seem smaller than the spec given but I have yet to do this accurately. should the gap be just snug with friction? Does it matter what position the camshaft is in to change the exhaust and intake shims? What I mean by that is: if I have it set up with the marks for checking the exhaust gaps is that when I check the gaps and then if necessary remove the exhaust rocker shaft? Then once all that is done and checked, turn the camshaft to check intake gaps. just wondering if there is a trick to remove the rocker shaft. and lastly, are those shiny chrome tabs difficult to keep on the valve cover as you wiggle it back into place. they look like they would want to drop into the engine. thanks.

Ahh, yep, I freaked out enough already, this is too complicated for my small and impatient brain. I’m afraid I would have to pay someone else to do this. I am now reconsidering my next purchase which was likely to be one of these cb500 x bikes. Bugger it, I’m disappointed. Perhaps a Royal Enfield …
@user-jr1cs6ob3m Жыл бұрын
Valve adjustment interval is 24,000 klm. Which is quite long I'm sure REnfield will be quite shorter.
@SHT50296 ай бұрын
@@user-jr1cs6ob3m yes but it is easier. You don't need to wait for replacement shims, you just need a screwdriver and a wrench. And you need to get down only the fuel tank. For the spark plug is very easy. a 5 year child can do it. Royal Enfields are cheap to maintain and easy to work on them. I think my next bike will be a Royal Enfield.

Great video congratulations, you showed me that you can disassemble the side panels without removing the high engine guard, for me difficult to reassemble the nuts and bolts under the headlight .. Can you give me some advice on this? But to make these valve adjustments you need the manual, where did you find it? 🤙🤙👍👍
@dima004 Жыл бұрын
Hi bro, about the bolts under the headlight, there are 4 screw and one plastic clips not very complicated about the manual you can find a lot of information in the forum of cb500x thanks

Hello, would you be kind enough to tell me how long does it take to adjust the valves on this CB500? Thank you so much
@dima0047 ай бұрын
Hi, it is very hard question, if you will prepare for it well, and you will learn how to do every step, in total it will take you about 4-8 hours
@JeroenBrosens Жыл бұрын
Interesting that you took out the shims without checking if the clearance was within tolerance first, you seem to use a different manual than I do, I have the Haynes service manual. It states that you can just put the feeler gauge between the shim and rocker arm and see that if you retract it, you should feel just a bit of friction while pulling back. Only replace when the gap is too big. The formula is the same btw! Did you have to drain the oil btw?
@dima004 Жыл бұрын
Hi bro, 1. You missed that part that I first measured the gaps, and only where the gaps were smaller then the tolerance, I replaced the shims... 2. The gaps became smaller...(not bigger, i this specific model) 3. You don't need to drain the oil... Good luck

Procedure on my old Triumph Bonneville: 1. unscrew plugs 2. screw in new plugs 3. take off valve rocker covers 4. check clearance, adjust if needed 5. put rocker covers back on elapsed time, what, maybe 27 minutes?

I think Honda could not have made a simple valve adjustment any harder! I almost bought a CB500X but this silliness was the major reason I went elsewhere.
@mickleblade Жыл бұрын
I've just done my Cbf1000, twice the valves but probably not twice the swearing. I did have to remove the camshafts to change several shims. Elapsed time? 2 weeks!

WTF? All of this is necessary JUST To replace two spark plugs? ( 2019 cb500x here). I just wonder if ALL of this is necessary. just to get access to the spark plugs ( and yes..I'm not talking about the valve adjustment deal)

@@themotorider1 I empathize with your pre effort depression, but it's not as difficult as it may seem as long as you bring some bright colored such as green painters or masking tape to label certain things and take pictures I was able to accomplish it and while fighting some T-Rex brand engine crash guard bars involving moving my panels out of the way
