@@CB7Media Maybe but why didn't you tell us what part you recommend using? That's the most important part right? For example there have been complaints on the FEL-PRO VS50365R. For example "Fel Pro is my go-to gasket because it is excellent quality and fit, usually (for my Toyota, BMW). For my father's Honda Accord, though, disaster. Two leaks, one MAJOR because the gasket was a poor fit for the valve cover. In addition, the grommets don't fit over the bolts and are useless. I ended up overtightening one bolt and broke it, in an attempt to stop one of the leaks. Also, the valve gaskets fit awkwardly. " -review. Good job man, I'm glad you posted this. I'm about to do it again and needed a refresher. I'd suggest that before doing it, set the #1 cylinder to TDC on the compression stroke before you begin, so a valve lash adjustment can be done immediately afterward.

@@CB7Media that is something I have not learned about as of yet, and am all ears. To this point I have cleaned out the EGR ports, and I am about to take off the throttle body, plenum, and intake manifold to clean them out. I suspect I should replace the gaskets. I couldnt take off the EGR valve for want of a socket that could fit down in there. I will do all that this weekend. I suspect I should probably get a new o2 sensor as well. Anything you feel like sharing, I will surely listen to. Thank you, very much!

@@brockam sorry i have not replied. My notifications are messed up i would recommend a o2 sensor if you're getting a check engine code for it.my 91 accord has the original 02 sensor at 175k my 92 does as well but it doesn't have a catalytic converter so I all ways get a code for it you can try cleaning it up with gas letting it soak for about 24 hours sometimes it works unless the wires are brittle then i would recommend getting a new one. If you do definitely get a Honda o2 sensor. Because of the codes. and if you get a aftermarket 02 sensor they will still throw a code ! At least in my experience!

Thanks for this comprehensive video. My engine is smoking without any rise in temperature or loss of performance, akin to a leaking valve cover so I think it's time for a valve cover gasket replacement. My question is, can i just change the cover gasket without tampering with the valves like how you did it in the video? What do you think?

Do the 12mm bolts get the same spec? The Haynes manual says 16ftlbs for the the 12mm bolts. Alot of these videos say 22ftlbs. Seems like 6ftlbs is a lot. And then you say 12ftlbs for the 12mm

Basically what your describing is bent valves, either from driving wear and tear or rough install, reinstall. They will look straight but if the rocker assembly jumps off of the valve with a clunk that valve is bent; not recommended but you can pry the valve straight enough to get by… More time in the video should be taken to show what’s happening with the rocker assembly, and where things start to get bent as in your case, but understandable that this video is a rather clean gasket change showcase. As I had several valves that were clunking, I took to a local specialty head service shop and they replaced like 4 valves and shaved a bit off for a bunch of $$$ with a repair rebuild 🐧🐉

@CB7Media2 жыл бұрын
Well it definitely helps I can say that. If you can't remove the ground bolt from the valve cover then remove it from the alternator bracket and the motor mount bracket. Then the wire will be free so you can lift up the valve cover. Hope this helps!

Question: Would a bad cam make the spark plug seals fail? Lots of oil came up through the spark plugs after I changed them 5k miles ago. There's no loss of compression, and the engine has just 101k on it. Btw, I did a valve adjustment when I did the plugs 5 k ago, but, I never replaced the o-rings inderneath. Thanx
@CB7Media3 жыл бұрын
No a bad cam would not do that. your seals are bad and need to be replaced if your getting oil in to the spark plug boots. your not going to notice a compression loss for these oil rings when they get old they dry out and crack allowing oil when I gets to full temperature to pass by in small amounts
