I've watched several videos on this procedure, and yours is the best -- torque specs, helpful tips, and you show instead of tell. Most guys just point to something and say, "Now I'll remove that" or "There were three bolts I had to remove." Thank you. Now to do it on my own 2005....

The first value cover gasket you set on the workbench sounded hard as plastic. Always great to see a mechanic use a torque wrench when reassembling fasteners. ✌🏻

Always follow leaks up. Its not uncommon for most leaks to be valve cover leaks. High rpms makes them leak cause theyre such a light torque. Thank you for watching!!

@@MegaMilesBen I have a 2001 Toyota solara! Needs this done! That intake over the back valve cover, is so stupid! That design created so much extra work. Car runs great. But stinks of burning oil. I'm also thinking of changing the rubber mid pipe for the cooling system. It's under the intake between the cylinders.

Fantastic video learn a lot from your master skill Thank you, I have changed the gasket easily on the front side but the back of the engine leaks badly after changing it,I have put very little gasket maker on the corners after deep clean should I put extra gasket maker any recommendations. Thanks again
@MegaMilesBen3 ай бұрын
@journeymindset2054 that back one can be a pain and if the gasket slips when youre installing it, it wont sit right or seal up. If its leaking that bad, I personally would pull it, find the exact leak and do it again. Youre sure its the valve cover gasket leaking and not something else back there? You can get a good view of the backside from under the car. Follow the oil up till it stops and thats where your leak is.

Question... In many other videos, there is a step that requires getting to a bolt on/near the rear cover from underneath the vehicle. Did you have to do this as well?
@MegaMilesBen5 ай бұрын
My video shows my entire process. Im not sure about that, I do a lot of Toyota valve covers and tune ups, cant say Ive ever had to go under the car for the job.

Thank you Ben! A question: is it ok to use a little contact cement on the new gaskets on the valve cover side to hold them in place, so they don't slip when you put the valve cover back on? Or are there chemicals in the contact cement that can damage the new gasket?
@MegaMilesBenАй бұрын
@Jim5150jvc you should always use a dry gasket. You might be able to use a very small amount of a tacky gasket sealant if absolutely necessary.

@MegaMilesBen3 ай бұрын
@alcruz8637 maybe someone has switched it. If it doesnt fit youll need to find the size that fits. Thats not uncommon.

Hi @megamilesben - I have been putting off this repair for a while, and will not be able to (due to personal reasons). In the meanwhile, I want to just re-tighten the valve cover bolts (carefully, to torque specs) to reduce the leak, and get by for a few months by topping off oil every 2 weeks. What is the easiest way to access the REAR valve cover bolts without taking off everything? Can we access the bolts from the bottom of the car, or is it necessary to take off the plenum? Thanks for the excellent video!
@MegaMilesBen7 ай бұрын
You need to remove the plenum so you might as well just do them.

No, I only do if theyre leaking or if Im doing a head gasket job. I dont like to disturb them otherwise.

I dont discuss labor prices on youtube. My little shop is discounted for the community and my clients provide their own parts. My prices dont compare to other shops, sorry. Book calls for 3.5 hours for just the valve cover gaskets.

@@MegaMilesBen I got quoted $690 for a water pump, timing belt, alternator, serpentine belt and tensioner pulley. With me bringing all the parts. Is that fair you think?
@MegaMilesBen9 ай бұрын
@Gooose1309 depends on location and going labor rate. Probably. Toyota timing is usually about 6 hours book time.
