I'd imagine it would require mastery of the magic used in the spells they cast while forging before even learning how to warm the metal. If magic was volatile enough to destroy Valeria, why would they bring such a thing back to their world? The ice king is dead, Danny is dead, there's relative peace at the end of the series so, there's no inherant need to destroy the rest of mankind with a magic spell gone awry. I don't think Bran would've taken the risk of a second doom razing the rest of Westeros after everything he's learned.

Valyrian Sword of House Tarly which Sam stole and gave it to Jorah Oathkeeper - Brienne of Tarth . Gifted by Jaime Lannister Widow's Wail -Jaime Lannister . After Joffrey's death Jaime held this sword Both Oathkeeper and Widow's Wail were forged by melting Ned Stark's sword.

It's always a question to me why ICE is so heavy. It's huge but aren't valerian steel lighter? So shouldn't it be just the weight of a normal sword?

No matter how light a weapon of that size is, you can only hold it at so many ways and swing at some angles since human arms only grow so much. Even of you had the strength and speed, a sword that size with an average sized person would not really work well. At least thats how I see it

@@Gonzolicious thank you, I know how angular momentum works. I'm a physics major. It is not a ten-foot pole, it's probably just 1 foot longer than a normal sword. If it's weight is the same as a normal sword, I don't see why it's going to be so much harder to use that it can only be used as a ceremonial sword for execution instead of actual combat.

It'd be unusably heavy if it was made with regular steel. It's practical for _some_ Lords Stark to wield Ice, but not all. From what I remember, Ned barely used it.

I had the bug assumtion that Sam would rediscover the means of creating Valyrian steel by making a connection from dragonglass and the materials effect on White Walkers. It would allow his time at the citadel to be worth something instead shitter scrubbing.

he isn't that smart. Craft is an art that requires experience and patient observation of the technique. Gendry would be more likely to rediscover it, but even his master Thobo Mott only knew how to reforge it. The Citadel is curious because it does have VS artifacts but doesn't have knowledge on how to even join the VS link to the maester's chain.

Lots of arguments about “Ice” it was perfectly practical and useable in battle or duels. It was large but not heavy, and those kinda of swords were used a lot in medieval Europe by mercenaries. It wasn’t an easy sword to use. It was a sword for the best of professionals. It was a good weapon against heavily armored enemies because it wasn’t just good for stabbing and piercing armor and reaching mounted soldiers, it was damn near a hammer as well. Now imagine ice, it’s not nearly as heavy and is obscenity sharp. You would have to be crazy not to take that into battle. Would you have to be very well trained to wield it effectively? Probably. Good thing the Starks were always trained by the best warriors in the north. Idk why people think ice was never used. Ned took Ice to the siege of Pike. He charged through the breach of pike with Jory, Jora, thoros of Myr and Jamie. A breach. Close quarters and could still effectively wield it to great effect. How do I know? He didn’t die.

It was Ice (Stark’s) a huge executioner sword, later it was reforged into 2 regular sized swords 1 was Widow’s Wail (Joffrey’s Sword) and 2 was Oathkepper Jaime’s sword which he gave to Brienne. 3rd Valerian steel sword was Hearts-bane which belonged to Sam’s family (House Tarly) and the final one is LongClaw (Jon Snow’s sword) Then there the Valerian steel dagger Cat’s-Paw So 4 technically 5 Valerian Steel blades 1.) Widows Wail 2.) Oathkeeper 3.) Long Claw 4.) Heart’s Bane 5.) Cat’s Paw

Nobody knows and even George hasn’t touched on it. Although there is a theory that the sword Ned wields isn’t the original sword as perhaps the original Ice was perhaps a blade of magical ice that was taken by one of The Others a very long time ago. It’s not so much the sword as it is the name itself that’s passed down. Not sure how solid this theory is but it is a good one to be sure.

they are usually family heirlooms. The Andals came from Essos and brought many blades with them. Houses Stark and Mormont are the few non Andal houses who have a blade of VS. Dalton Greyjoy found Nightfall on the body of a dead corsair (pirate) but died young, and the blade ended up in House Harlaw.

Fun fact- valyrian blades based on real life swords known as Damascus Steel. But it has nothing to do with Damascus in Syria. The original blades and the alloy formula was invented by the Tamil people from the Southern part of India ib 300BCE. However, during the British colonization of India they banned the technique to forge the swords and alloy making formula as well Now the art is lost forever. The reason its called Damascus steel is because it was the syrians Who introduced this steel and sword to all of Roman empire.
