you know what would be original, doing a Dracula film explaining why he chooses his three brides. undoubtedly hes eaten more then just three women and he doesn't change all of his victims so what was it that drew him to his three brides and why did he decide to keep them specifically? that would be interesting to see.
@MavenoftheEventide6 жыл бұрын
I'd love to see that story. There's been a few novels about his brides (usually trilogies, one book about each bride) but none that I've found have really gotten into the WHY, so I'm still unsatisfied.
@LightAndDarkMdness025 жыл бұрын
Hm, might not be what you're looking for, but I assume you're probably familiar with TTRPG Vampire: The Masquerade? Well there was a kind of reboot of the franchise under a different title known as Vampire: The Requiem, in which Dracula leads a sect (or at least founded it) known as the Ordo Dracul. There was a supplement short novel created for the game detailing how Dracula became a vampire, etc, and his embracing (turning) of his three brides and why he did it, as well as why he founded the Ordo Dracul/it's purpose. That might be up your alley, and you can download the books for free on theLibraryofmyth.com under New World of Darkness, and under Vampire: The Requiem.

@@MavenoftheEventide what if again the three brides are like an unholy trinity, the first demon was meant to be lilith who was the original first woman who wanted to lay above adam. Dracula could also be in ways the anti-christ. Note that in Left Behind films, the anti-christ comes from the Carpathian mountains, which is near Romania. The idea of demons also eating and killing babies, and drinking blood. But there could also be another origin. Of the most light-sensitive people, there is the Celts, whose skin easily burns and peels and gets skin cancer. This happened because they lived near the arctic, and due to there not being much vegetation, hunted animals, mostly scavengers, but also wolves, wearing their skins, hiding in caves, and possibly being cannibals and eaters of their dead as it was extreme conditions during the ice age. Hair the colour of blood, eyes the colour of stone, skin like ivory, aka, bone? If they were also emaciated, wouldn't these people look like the living dead? Could this be not only the origin of vampires, werewolves, but also demons and undead? This could be again all for evolution, as light skin needs more sunlight to make vitamin D bones. They also could have been albino, technically. The eating of bats, wolves, caves, not to mention some Europeans also share some DNA with Neanderthals, who not only buried their dead, but were also cannibals sometimes? Could that be why red-heads were teased even today? Maybe the three-brides is a harem as dracula could be considered an alpha male, or one of the oldest religions being the matrifocal great goddess, whose trinity was maiden-mother-crone, and whose fertility images date back to the ice ages and caves? the ability to transform into animals is a shaman-like ability. The ability to become like a mist is maybe a spiritual metaphor. The idea of someone able to live forever, due to having unaged skin as sunlight does prematurely age skin, and living off other life, could be considered parasitic. The idea of carnism makes him more like a predator. His hatred of Christianity is the Patriarchal religion replacing the Matrifocal religion? This sensitivity to silver, crosses, mirrors are because of silver, maybe because these are also symbols of a traitor against Christianity? Silver is related to the moon, which allows nocturnal hunting, and the need to be looking like a wolf. The thing for garlic may be a symbol of the vegetable which grows in sunlight, as opposed to his carnist/carnivore lifestyle. Herders like laps drank the blood of animals they herded much like ancient humans, for the salt, which we all crave. The semites were also herders, who could have been killed by agriculturalist civilizations, like Cain killing Abel. Thus Cain killing Abel is like Rome killing Jesus. Rome taking Jesus as their religion is a hijacking of Semitic beliefs? Some say Jews worshipped the Moon, and Jehovah has been related to the moon. There's also the leaver (tribal) "primitive" person versus taker (agricultural) "civilized" person, ala Daniel Quinn's Ishmael. The idea of a return to balance with nature being no longer a need for a Civilizing saviour, and thus an Anti-Christ in that regard, again Daniel Quinn "The STory of B". Jews were also more criticized with anti-semetic ideas more from Christianity. The ability to communicate with the land and animals is again a tribal animism or shamanism. The idea of needing his own earth with him is symbolic. There's also the ideas of anemia, where people don't get enough nutrients in their blood, and albinoism making them sensitive to sunlight, and the idea of taking blood leading to new antibodies, more ability to fight diseases, as well as finding immunity to new diseases. A resilient immune system that was super efficient at de-toxing the body could lead to someone ducking decay, or aging. Dracula could literally be from the stone age. His not aging and others around him aging, make him think that he eats the fruit of the tree of life, which could mean a vegetarian or carnivore diet depending on how you interpret it, people think that he's stealing their life away to remain young? Could he be Adam?

Huh. I haven't seen this movie, but the idea of Judas as the original vampire is actually kinda clever to me. I don't mind that it doesn't fit with the garlic - there are plenty of vampire stories where the garlic isn't an issue, so they could just have gone with that. And it actually does fit quite well with the crosses and the silver and so on (and it definitely gets points for being an original idea). I just don't see the point of then having vampire!Judas ALSO be Dracula and Caligula and every evil dude ever. Judas as Original Vampire is enough of an origin on its own.

The idea is that Judas`s sin of betraying Christ was so great that he kept reincarnating as tyrants,charlatans and people(Like Vlad Tepes and Caligula)who had a no tolerance policy for traitors.(As deep down Judas still loved Jesus and was guilty for his sin though his pride made it difficult for him to consciously admit it.)Also,his obsession with Mary Van Helsing likely had to do not only with her father but also Judas`s jealousy for Jesus`s feelings for Mary Magdalene which according to "Jesus Christ,Superstar" was one of many factors that led to his betrayal.

My biggest and favorite guilty pleasure for vampire movies. I just love it XDD On another note, I thought of you while rewatching a French vampire movie the other day: "Les dents de la nuit" (Teeth of the Night): a party addict and his two best friends receive invitations to a legendary party called the Medici evening, not realizing that the whole thing is actually a trap set by vampires every year for a celebratory feast. And so here they find themselves fighting to survive the night. It really makes fun of the vampire cliches and usual tropes, not taking itself seriously at all, and thankfully not constantly playing with the usual sexual aspect of vampirism (honestly a bit hard to sexualize them here when you see what they really look like!). Again, it's French, so I don't know if you'll be able to watch it, but it's pretty fun!

But I've actually got a chance to talk to his dad about this movie. Which I was a huge fan of even before meeting Devin, and he told me that the compressed shooting schedule and production did force him to alter what his original plans were. Also Devin has an uncredited cameo during one of the establishing Mardi Gras shots, granted he was like 10 when this was made, so you gotta look for a little blonde kid wandering around a crowded Mardi Gras celebration.

I'm not familiar with roma mythology, but I've heard the reason why silver is a huge weakness against vampires, werewolves, and other monsters is because of Christian influence. In the story of Jesus, Judas betrays him for 10 silver coins and silver is a pure metal, so that's why it's alive monsters' weaknesses.

I actually like this version of why Dracula is who he is and why he despises God and holy objects. He was denied death/peace of his sins and became demonic and fed upon gods children in the process of being denied access through the gates. Basically he was so evil he wasn't granted any reprieve from the life he lived, not from heaven or hell. I also like how they play on Gods plan for everyone, so if that's true then God had Judas/Dracula follow the path he had given him. Supernatural and Lucifer play the same angle in having Samael rebel to fall and become the devil as following gods plan.

My vampire lore is that vampires emerged from the Mayan god, Camazotz, who is actually the son of Lucifer who emerged from Hell after Judas betrayed Christ. He was sent to Earth to punish Judas, and Camazotz said to Judas, "You shall become a monster of a human, the king of beasts, and you shall spread the seed of Satan!" he then forced Judas to drink his blood, and the first vampire was born. Pure blood vampires like Dracula and Carmilla were turned straight from Camazotz and have all the powers in Bram Stoker's Dracula, while the water bloods were turned by other vampires like Orlok and Lucy, and they have more weaknesses like death by sunlight as well as lacking a lot of the powers. There are also a lot of middle grounds, like hybrids liek Alucard and vampires who were born vampires like Marya Zaleska, but I'm still working out the kinks. Any suggestions?

Dracula 2000 seemed like a really long music video, Christopher Plummer was wasted, as was the premise of Dracula as Judas. You know a film is bad when the sequel has a better plot. Chabad I think has an explanation why Vampires would never be Jewish, pretty much goes completely against food and dietary practises - and no jew would think to consume blood (we even drain it out of meats, etc), useless tidbit I guess...

A difference between a thing being allowed and it being impossible. Putting the effort in to drain the blood out means you think about taking it out. Thus, you could think about leaving it in. Thus, it's not impossible to think about it. I get that it's a dietary thing, not consuming blood, really I do. Blood is a major contaminant, who knows what's swimming around in there? Whoever made that a part of the Torah was a smart motherfucker. But still, that was a silly way to put it.

Here is a really interesting discussion about it including a rabbi's opinion: breebird33.tumblr.com/post/153344654367/glyndarling-thewinterotter

If the only way to survive was to consume blood, you'd 100% be allowed to. Pikuach nefesh (protecting life) comes before pretty much anything else in Judaism. You wouldn't be allowed to murder someone for the blood, but if you could get it without killing (and preferably, without hurting) anyone, you're fine.

Drinking human blood isn't exactly good for Christians either- vampires are still monsters after all. It just means a Jewish vampire would be particularly wrong/potentially guilty in that respect.

Even though it's a minor point of your review, I just want to say I thought silver was a weakness to demons in general (along with iron). And, aside from being bad, this movie is guilty of another crime. This is the movie that convinced Joel Schumacher Gerard Butler would be a good Phantom.

Well, it is also the Dracula movie with the best soundtrack. Even my favourite song, Bloodline, by my favourite band, Slayer is in it.

Nah, Queen of the Damned got this whack ass soundtrack beat by a mile.

😉 I guess I am the minority on this, but I actually like Dracula 2000, and this is coming from someone who loves vampires. I thought that the origin story of Dracula in the movie was a nice little twist; it actually made a lot of sense. Good review. 👏👏👏

I like Dracula 2000, but not as a serious movie, more like an accidental comedy. The line about dignity and all the one liners get me laughing.

Silver is the reason they don't show up in mirrors or photos.
