Funny note: I played a lasombra a year ago whos whole reason for being indebted was that he accidentally started an internet cult after being caught on film using oblivion. So a lasombra on camera(with all the glitches that causes), in a black suit, with shadow tentacles. Playing the origin of slenderman that really hated slenderman was hilarious

Mine was an antitribu priest that justified the whole vampire thing as an special trial given by God Himself to test the vampires and deliver forgiveness to the ones who pass. The main idea: God gave the Beast to remind us of our terrible sins, but gave us powers to repent and act charitably. After my prior GM threw a werewolf in the middle of the crowd my priest jumped to escape the werewolf (Crinos, BTW), i left the table and this master. Explaining the final scene: we were trying to escape the werewolf on the rooftops, and even if my rolls to Arms of the Abyss were ok, my landings were less than estellar. The noises were attracting a little crowd, so I took the opportunity to jump from the 7th floor, dressed as a priest and screaming "May the Lord forgive me!" in the middle of the crowd. Then the guy just threw the crinos over me.

One of my favorite Nosferatu moments, another Kindred wanted me to find out who burned down his bar. When I asked around the other Nosferatu I got "oh that was me" and instantly the clan worked out the best lie of who did it and it worked

I did an all-Nosferatu coterie campaign once and it was glorious. The GM was okay with letting us do our own thing so we worked together to basically transform a part of the sewers into an elaborate death trap labyrinth to defend ourselves. Honestly from what I know of the actual Bela Legosi, (which is less than I'd prefer) that tracks pretty well. Dude was just a really weird guy from what I understand. He like many actor's and actresses at the time got tangled with addiction. He had a relationship with a popular actress of the era Clara Bow and had nude portrait of her hung above his bed, even after he started a different relationship with a woman who if I remember right he married.

The great thing about vampire is that since its about recipients of a CURSE, the game can explore the darker side of different forms of pariah status without pulling punches. Nosferatu are about deformity and physical disability without needing to say "not all crippled people are evil". *Since this is just on Vampire The Masquerade, there is a wider collective setting. It is collectively know as The World of Darkness: (there is a 2nd newer less popular unconnected setting call Chronicles of Darkness)* 1st of the line: Vampire the Masquerade 2nd: Werewolf the Apocalypse (Yes, the one you encounter in the park, best cosmology tied to the world, my favorite setting) 3rd: Mage the Ascension (where the Tremere originate) 4th: Wraith the Oblivion (Ghost and the afterlife, likely the most interesting, complex and depressing line) 5th: Changeling the Dreaming (Faeries) 6th: Hunters the Reckoning (the more disappointing line, mainly because it didn't turn out to be what most people expect it to be about) 7th: Demon the Fallen (an afterthought) *Sub-setting:* Mummy the Resurrection, Kindred of the East and Ebony Kingdom *Historical Setting:* Dark Ages (which includes book on all except Wraith), Victorian Age (Vampire), Wild West (Werewolf), The Great War (Wraith), Sorcerer Crusades (Mages) I am more partial to pre-V5 Vampire for most of the reasons he stated. And only Vampire reached 5th edition, so the 20th anniversary edition is the edition where most of the rest have rules. (5th edition presents an overhaul on a level that it kind of contradicts even with the meta lore)

I think the Tremere houses are arguably the best lore addition to the game, I just love how it was handled. Now, all of a sudden, declaring which Tremere house you're part of is a huge political and ideological statement and I think it adds a lot of cool tension between individual Tremere. I think it's worth mentioning the houses :3 Also I tend to roleplay my Tremere's magical expertise based on their house loyalty aka classic hermetic rituals for House Tremere, or witchcraft for House Carna, or Crowley-esque rituals and drug-induced meditations for Ipsissimus. Even if mechanically the rituals and powers are all the same, I like to "skin" them according to the house I've chosen and reflect the magickal paradigm they've chosen.

So for those who are interested in Clan Tremere (in v5): The video doesn't really talk about what exactly happened in Vienna in 2008. The Second Inquisition didn't just attack the clan's main chantry, they literally destroyed the Pyramid itself. This attack didn't just "slightly" change the clan's power structure. The blood bonds between young kindred and their elders broke, and everybody is free now all of the sudden. Clan Tremere, the clan that once was authoritarian and completely controlled by its older members, is now kinda divided into 4 main Houses. House Tremere - Camarilla aligned, loyalists of the Pyramid, traditional Hermetics, led by Karl Schrekt House Carna - Camarilla aligned but a lot of their members are moving to the anarchs, pagan nonconformists, Wiccans, and other modern witches, led by Carna House Goratrix - Camarilla aligned (Formerly Sabbat IIRC), basically the Slytherin of Clan Tremere, presumably led by Goratrix House Ipsissimus - Anarch aligned, though not generally considered to be a major house. It's decentralized and leaderless. Also, it is worth mentioning that a lot of Tremere identify as "mercenary warlocks" nowadays, and they don't necessarily belong to any of the houses mentioned above. Being alone in the modern nights is a BAD decision, but I guess the blood mages can pull it off with boon trading. (If they are lucky and smart ofc) The video also didn't mention that the different houses tend to embrace different types of people. While House Tremere usually still embraces the scholars, the educated people; House Carna tends to embrace those who just love magic. I really liked this video, and I understand it focused on explaining the clans ina simple way for people interested in them, but I think these things should have been mentioned about Clan Tremere.

Honestly, I absolutely adore Clan Tzimisce. They're absolutely everything I want vampires to be. Terrifying, but bound by a baffling sense of decorum that is utterly alien to most mortals - and even other vampires - and seeing themselves as so far above normal life that they don't even think to hate the creatures they feed upon. After all, would you hate an ant that bites your arm? Or the bread you eat? Their Compulsion and Bane as well are extremely fascinating. I'm imagining a Tzimisce that has their mortal servants as their Charge, and have to have them in the same room as her during daysleep, forcing mortals to watch a vampire sleep. A very creepy reversal. And of course, her Covetousness making her obsessed with adding another mortal to her service. After all, she needs someone to carry all her bags when she travels.

It's actually somewhat funny that the only clan that is primarily in the Sabbat now is the Tzimisce (barring the Koldunic Tzimisce of good ol' Europe). Both the Harbingers and the Lasombra have more or less jumped ship. That said, one thing of note is that Hecata is moreso a reuinification of related bloodlines based on clan Cappadocian. Augustus Giovanni usurped Cappadian as the clan of Death, managing to purge most all members of the good ol' Clan Cappadocian, save those who hid out and started their own bloodlines such as Baton Samedi and the Samedi, or the Cappadocians the legit hid out in the spirit world (Basically, they went into Oblivion, in the Wraith context) and became the Harbingers of Skulls. It's conveluted, but hot damn was it a atoryline thing. Harbingers of Skulls were even built up as a bloodline that allied with the Sabbat for the sole reason of fucking over the Giovanni and undertaking an vendetta

Yeah, as someone who mostly likes V5 and thinks they made some interesting and fun changes, stapling Obtenebration and Necromancy together just seemed like a weird decision. The other disciplines they mashed together at least did similar things (protean/serpentis/vicissitude shapeshifting, obfuscate/chimerstry altering perception, quietus/thaumaturgy blood manipulation) but *those* two do feel like they need to be different disciplines.

I know this is old, but the reason they mashed all the necromancy type powers and the shadow ones was because of Abyss Mysticism, which were a set of rituals like the Ceremonies are in v5 that expanded on the lore/utiliity of Obtenebration and the Lasombra's connection to the Abyss. The many link between the powers in v5 being connecting to other places (literally Oblivion) and pulling the power of those places threw the disembodied dead or shadow manipulation.

It's been around a decade since the last time I played or went our of my way to read the lore. I would like to share some interesting old lore for those interested ( some of these may have been retcon by now). In regards to the tzimisce. There were the old tzimisce (with dominate instead of vicisitud), the koldun mages and the "normal" tzimisce. Back then, as far as I remember, the old tzimisce and koldun mages were heavily opposed to the other tzimisce. Basically, Tzimisce had made a deal with Kupala (a demon) and gained new powers as part of the deal (that beign vicisitud), which didn't sit well with certain members of the clan. Technically vicisitud was not a vampire discipline but a demonic power (that as a side effect, infected the blood of its host). Something that would have some serious ramifications that would compromise any vampire that had it by the times of the Gehena (wether by beign embraced by a tzimisce, by diablerizing a tzimisce or whatever other case may be that allowed any beign to have it). In regards to Lasombra, Troile, Saulot and Cappadocius haveing been diablerized. That was up for debate (as often happens with 40k, certain events are all over the place and in contradiction with each other XD), which is why we ended up with so many Gehena scenarios where they all end up being "alive". Let me elaborate: -Lasombra in reallity didn't die, but hid in the Abyss because he wanted to try and fuse with the Abyss so he could become one with it. If i remember right, one of his children (Montano, i believe) was conviced that he wasn't dead after having a conversation with the one who had comited the diablerie. There was evidence that would point out to being tampered with ala I'm an all mighty antediluvian with access to Dominate kinda way. This along with the fact that the alledge perpretator wasn't as strong as he should have been if he indeed had committed diablerie. So after that, he spent most of his time travelling to the Abyss trying to locate his sire and trying to understand what was up. One of the Gehena scenarios was in fact, Lasombra trying to plunge the world in darkness, litteraly. He'd succesfully assimilated with the Abyss and the next step was to merge the real world with the Abyss. -In the case of Troile the elder, he may or may not have died. But one of the theories was that he manipulated the events to fake his death too. It just so happens that the True Brujah clan exist (perhaps no more nowadays), which was a clan obsessed with gathering knowedlege and discovering the truth, and most of them didn't believe that Troile had died. Because, Troile the young had not inherit the special power that he possesed. This power, called Temporis, which the True Brujah also use, allowed for time manipulation shenaningans. There's also the fact that all descendant from Troile the elder had a distinct and different demeanour to those of Troile the young. The former having extreme difficulty to hace any kind of emotional outburst, while the later being unable to control their emotions (particullary, the anger related ones). So yeah, there was that XD. Now, Saulot, he was.... a reaaaally special one. Not only was he the founder of the Salubri (the vampiric example of the good samaritan holier that thou cleric who would never use violence and were extreme pacifist, ans as a result were nearly exterminated by the Tremere or/and used in experimentts, alongside gangrels and tzimisce, to create the gargoyls. With the exception of the warrior caste of course, the ones who believed themselves to be the "holy paladins" who would rid the world of anything evil, specially those pesky Baali that were they natural nemesis. They were also the ones who would later join the Sabbat to kill any and all Tremere, they didn't took kindly to Tremere slurping Saulot and ording the hunt of their brethen) but also, the founder of the Baali (the vampire example of a demon worshipping cult, that was always stirring the pot, and whom all vampires want to kill on sight no matter their affiliation) among others. In his case, one of the hypothesis was that he was the one who offered himself to Tremere in a silver plater as a part of his plan to make the rest of the world believe that he was no more, while in reality his soul didn't lose the battle and he gained control of Tremere's body and clan after either impersonating or somehow controlling Tremere's soul to do his biding while he chilled in the subconciousness. The fact that Tremere was not really himself was what lead to the schism of the clan lead by Goratrix among other things. After all this ordeal, i believe that Goratrix lost and ended up trapped in a mirror (if I remember right). Saulot was far from the good guy, IMHO he is one if not the most batshit over the top crazy among all the antidiluvians (to much bipolar evil scientist vibes going on with him in the old lore). Funny side note, thanks to Tremere having used the blood of a tzimisce in the ritual to turn into a vampire, Tzimisce/Kupala also has access to his mind. Something that even Saulot hadn't predicted, so in some scenarios he ends up in a three way mental war which always ends in him and Tremere trying to get the hell out because the corrupted blood gives Tzimisce/Kupala too much leverage in the battle. Tremere ends up inside Etrius mind and i don't remember if Saulot ended up inside someone in specific. But i do believe i remember one scenario in which he ends up inside a random mortal's mind in Gehena times. -Then there was Cappadocius, which is really dead, but the fact that he was diablerized succesfully by Giovanni is what's up for debate. Basically, he'd preppared a ritual that would allow him to supplant God, for which being diablerized was part of the process (something along the lines of his soul being sepparated from his body and thanks to the ritual instead of fighting Giovanni's souls for control over the body he would go and fight against God's one). So, after having prepared all the pieces, iniciate the ritual and while Giovanni was in the middle of slurping away, his soul was on the process of ascending to godhood in an attempt to suplant God. He almost succeded but, after going all the way, when he was just one step away from becoming God, he was sweap away by a Maelstorm and his soul perished just before he could accomplish the one thing he bet it all in. So, this also means that while it's true that Giovanni diablerized him, wether he was able to gain any power out of it is up for debate due to the fact that Cappadocius soul was utterly destroyed. So, basically, Giovanni may or may not have inhereted the strenght of Cappadocius.

I don't know how much of this is still canon, up for debate or retcon; but, in my days these were some pieces of lore that we read about and discuss among ourselves in my group. I hope some of you may find some of this interesting ^^ . Vampire has always had a really cool lore, and there are many stories that can be made by employing it as a starting point or as the focus of the campaign if you are tired of using the ones suggested in the books. I still remeber fondly the old campaigns i used to play back then. Best one, we began playing all the way back when Carthage was founded and we succesfully ended by surviving the Gehena. All of this took our group of 5 almost 3 years (real time), and that was playing 2-3 times per week, normally around 6-8h, sometimes up to 12h on the weekends if there were any content heavy parts. We took part in the punic wars; tried to convince Atila to rule as emperor of Rome; we were almost killed by Mithras for almost ruining one of his schemes in the UK; we tried to save Michael in Constantinople to no avail; we befriended Anatole, Lucita and Becket; one of us almost died to Fatima when some insinuations of her being Lucita's gf were made; the whole ordeal of the Transilvanian Chronicles which 'till this day is still a pain in the ass to deal with (if you don't want to end up being someone's bitch); we ran away with all the gold the templars had hidden when they suffered the purge in France and founded a bank in Switzerland with it; we embarked to the New World and tried to stablished a New World Order over there which lasted less than 10 years before someone tried to screw another one over and the whole thing died to internal strife; we saw the read moon that announced the beginning of the end days; we escaped from the damn Kraken; we saw what the "Pandemic" did to New York; someone almost ended up beign eaten up by the Leviathan while traveling the Abyss; at some point we tried to locate and unearth Enoch; we even ended up in a car being chased by Set (in his giant serpent form) after we tried to stop the ritual his followers were employing to revive him (almost died to sunburn, the godamn thing wanted our ass good because thanks to us the ritual was only partially succesfull) because someone, who we later discovered was Saulot, wanted us to deal with it so the world wouldn't be destroyed and was being a particullary big pain in the ass about it (turns out he just wanted to steal some cool magical shit to make a new vessel for himself); we ended up camping with the 9 little girls (I believe it was 9, could be wrong) which formed a vessel for Malkav, he was a chilled dude if you ignore all the little girls talking at the same time every now and then; we watched teh world burn in a three way war between the alliance of humans and mages against most vampires and a massive amount of Caitiff which formed an united front and wanted to killed all who opposed the Utopia they wanted to create where they wouldn't be discriminated against. There were too many stories in that campaign, lol. It all ended up in a blood bath. And, at the end, there was the battle between Cain (alongside some of the antediluvians who were still loyal to him or chose his side) and Lilith (with his new boyfriend Lucifer and a bunch of antediluvians who wanted to kill Cain) which would decide the fate of the planet. Meanwhile, Lasombra was trying to swallow the world and make the Abyss the real world, and Tzimisce/Kupala was trying to infect all living beings in the world so we could all be one (his words XD). As all of this took place, our group was giving the choice of just watching as all burn in the sidelines with popcorn or to chose one side. So we went with Cain because he was the good guy, and the most sane one around tbf :D (and the fact that the bitch Saulot was on the other side and we wanted some revenge also helped). It all ended with mutual destruction and God forgiving Cain after he chosed to sacrified himself to save/restore the planet or whatnot. After that, we were cleansed of the curse (in the sense that we no longer needed to feed on blood, no more beast, sunburn and all the bad stuff; our master was really into some Golconda and Paragon books back then, so yeah) and were offered to have one wish granted each for surviving untill the end and being in Cain's side (had two vampires on the group who had diablerized a tzimisce whom had to waste the wish to make their blood cleansed of Kupalas fuckery, 'cause, demons never die for real on earth XD). It was really one of the best experiences i've ever had and the longest continuous campaign i've ever been part of. Nowadays I'm lucky getting some free time on the weekends, miss the old days XD. Hope you all have the chance to play some amazing campaigns sometime too.. Cheers~

On Cappadocius, If I remember correctly his obsession with finding the cause of mortal death let him to basically allow Giovanni to diablerize him to experience final death to see if there was a death beyond death while using the ritual to move his soul to Joseph who then became the leader of clan Cappadocius and is the reason the power of the Giovanni is to manipulate ghost because he gave up his soul in the process. The chronicle ended soon after with another attack, but by that point I had replaced myself with a familiar that I had shaped into a copy of myself, and left to establish a New Haven in Romania, and to embrace a certain individual into vampirism.

My personal favourites are the Salubri (the healing type specifically, just, very nice unicorns who can actually survive in the sun for a while if at highest power level) and I grew on the Giovanni after trying to be the one normal relative in a family of nutjobs who's trying her best to keep the family from killing each other at Thanksgiving.

I honestly like the Hecata changes to their Bane/etc. The implication is that they have managed to fuse their disparate bloodlines into an actual real clan as recognized by their Blood, and I think there's something beautiful in that. And the more strongly a vampire associates with their bloodline rather than the clan as a whole, the more likely they are to have divergent elements of that bloodline. I dunno, it just speaks to me.

I knew absolutely nothing about Vampire the Masquerade before this video, other than that it exists and there's a TTRPG and a video game lol. I'm also generally not a huge fan of vampires in fiction, but this genuinely sold me on the lore and makes me think I might wanna play or run a game at some point. Huge props, and thanks for this video :>

Love that this man is talking about vampires into a gnome to beings that may or may not be there, silently observing and on occassion giving a thumbs up from behind a screen. EDIT: The more I look at it, the more I am unsure of whether this is a gnome or I am just... reading way too much into vague shapes xD Amazing video! I have been looking to get into a game of VtM and this helps immensely

I used to have a cool book, It was just lore but was awesome..It was called "The book of nod" It was about vampires origins, about Cain and his curse after killing his brother Abel. My closest group of friends and I played RPG s all through school and even into our young adult years too. We used to be very into tabletop role-playing games and although we were mostly got into advanced Dungeons and Dragons, Forgotten Realms, etc... we did end up getting into Vampire, very much so the last few years where we actually still got together... and we played Shadow Run too of course.
