Med student with a background in bio-chem here. It’s been a few years but if I recall correctly, fetal hemoglobin is actually different from adult hemoglobin. Specifically, fetuses have 2 gamma subunits instead of 2 beta subunits. That means fetuses/infants (if I remember correctly) exhibit higher affinity for oxygen (with the trade off that oxygen detachment becomes harder) and a decreased affinity for 2,3-BPG. So basically, there are structural and functional differences between infant blood and adult blood.

Excellent analysis. As far as the Lyme Disease stuff from this season, I think it could've actually been the clue to Season 11. Remember when Ryan Murphy used to always put some kind of clue for the following seasons themes? Like the top hat on the cops coffee cup in Freak Show, which was an Easter egg/hint for the following season: Hotel. I actually forgot that used to be a thing until Season 11 started delving into the Fyre Island and Lyme connections. It's probably not that, but it fits perfectly and I miss old school RM, so I'm just gonna pretend that that is definitely why the Lyme Disease stuff felt so out of place and like a dropped plot thread in Red Tide. Yep. That's why.

You know what boggles my mind, why do non of these individuals have the idea to go to a butcher or a corner for the blood they need? Why decide to kill for blood, when you can buy it or bribe someone for it? What traits do the “talented” share that the “dreamers” don’t, other than, of course, innate talent? Are there personality traits in common, genetic anomalies, immunities, common cultural heritage, or blood relations to specific individuals? Why are none of the characters asking these questions? There’s just not enough data and nuance for me to really get interested, it just feels like flat and kind of naive writing to be honest.

What i think could be interesting in the idea of a muse-vampire could be that the more exceptional the result desired, the more blood needed, or even a specific type like the idea of a child's blood. Reminds me of the vampire clans in vampires the masquerade that will feed form specific types of people (like children, or even artists). Where the fact that certain types of people being able to take the pill an return to normal, but others can not might be that either those that can not return to normal have had all of their creativity (maybe specific chemicals in their brain/body depleted), while those that can return to normal have a much higher amount of creativity (chemicals) in their body. The red lights i think are a calling card, but also a warning as well. I mean as shown it seems that the light tells those in the know like those inflicted these users need something, while also maybe when off that they are not to be bothered by them, while the houses without any light is fair game for any action wished.

If you knew how tv worked you’d probably know that he wasn’t even credited for writing a good chunk of it. Being the “creator” or “showrunner” typically means he oversees every aspect of it, not that he’s necessarily the most involved person in any sector. This is why his shows always sound, look, and feel cohesively “his” but can vary in quality depending on the team he has assembled for each individual show.

Yes, thank you ! Also, in the finale they give the pill to racist and shitty cops to turn them into vampires. Since when does "racist" equates "talentless" ? It doesn't make any sense, and draws a correlation between problematic behavior and the lack of creativity. I expected more from a 2021 show.

My personal pet theory is that the Chemist is still working for the military, doing the human testing in a clandestine way. And that the main ingredient of the pill is somehow related to "real" vampires - maybe the military got its greedy hands on one and now they're trying to make their own pet 'super soldier' version of it. That the controlled aggression is the intended main effect, with the enhanced creativity just an unintended side effect based on neurobiological changes of the presumed miracle drug. The story the Chemist tells is just a bit too simple and convenient - and honestly, I don't think anyone with that kind of knowledge would explain it to the local test subjects. I think the season tries a bit too hard to mix traditional vampire lore with a metaphorical critique of the modern "art genius" type of character and way of life.

The reason why infant blood would work better is because the DNA hasn't had a chance to degrade due to the fact that it has not split over a lifetime. Every time your cells split you lose a fraction of the DNA sequence from the ends of the chromosomes. Lots of real life doctors say if we could figure out how to keep that degradation from happening we could have a chance to live 3 to 4 times longer than we do right now, or possibly become immortal.

Interesting but I disagree. Literal infants and small children would have a higher percentage of blood sugar then their adult counterparts. Hey sister the fact that they need a ton of energy to grow and most children are incapable of detecting something as too sweet. As a result their blood would have higher blood sugar so it literally be sweeter at least by volume. And if not more blood sugar by volume it might be more blood sugar in comparison.

Interesting but you could simply get supplements to replace the missing chemistry. Your brains also going to crave broccoli and spinach cuz they're high iron and magnesium content.

Watched both videos and I really enjoyed your take on the different kinds of vampires Lost girl Forever Knight Two TV shows I'd love to see you cover Also blood ties the movie (made for TV is on ty) and the the TV show which they completely went with a didn't script for both very good Blood ties the made for TV movie has a very unusual but interesting take on vampires well worth a look I think it's Jeremy London is in it but might be his twin brother either way loved it growing up.
