I always saw them as equal. A lot of shows portray vampires as like this modern day teenage wet dream, but when portraying vampires more brutally they’re given more powerful abilities like mind control and flight. In the vampire diaries, werewolf venom is lethal to vampire and takes around a day to kill them and can be cured, in Van Helsing werewolf venom kills vampires in seconds and would most likely work on the originals as it worked on Dracula who was made a vampire by the devil. And to deal with tvd werewolves, their biggest weakness is sliver, Van Helsing werewolf’s have claws made out of silver.

Young Vampires will definetly lose to Werewolves. But slightly Older Vampires like Marcel (211 years) might have a chance defeating werewolves as in The Originals, He was fast and powerful enough to defeat Werewolves and survived a Werewolves's bite much longer than any other Vampire. A Hybrid also have a chance of defeating a Werewolves as he himself is a half Werewolf. But a Prime Alpha can kick his ass. Now Older vampires (700 years above) will defeat and might kill multiple werewolvesas they are way stronger than any Werewolf. They are more experienced, manipulaitve, cunning and way more experience dealing with them. The Original Vampires will kill bunch of Werewolves quite easily without breaking a sweat. Rebekah Mikaleson was able to kill multiple Werewolves (Even though she was daggered half of her life by Klaus). But Elijah will kick their ass even if they come as a pack. The Original Hybrid (Klaus Mikaelson) can rip off those Werewolves without a sweat. It's not even a competition.

Vampires are normally portrayed very well and everybody understands how deadly they can be and how varied their powers actually are... You might have one vampire bloodline that matches one fiction and another that matches another fiction the way I understand it and they could easily coexist in the same universe... But werewolves are rarely portrayed properly because it's not easy to portray them at full power the way the myths described them because that can get expensive and a lot of werewolf movies are aging a bit... More modern movies prefer to portray them looking more like a traditional wolf and that's not accurate to the legend... Werewolves aren't supposed to walk on four legs according to the myths... According to the myths they walk on two legs but run on all four... If you look at a werewolf the way the myths described them and some vampires could stand their ground but most would be slaughtered by a single werewolf because it is stated that werewolves can kill vampires... A werewolf bite is typically about as effective as a wooden stake... I don't think it's supposed to be like The vampire diaries either where it takes time to kill them I think it's supposed to be much faster than that... I’d say both Strength and Durability goes to Werewolves while Powers, Speed, IQ, Experience, Endurance and Stamina, Agility Etc goes to Vampires. Combat and Battle IQ is entirely subjective to the individual vampire or werewolf. So basically Werewolves are the massive animalistic brutes and tanks that are much stronger and can take much more punishment, while vampires are the much more fast and versatile, cunning, stealthy and smart. So a werewolf would probably easily kill a single or maybe 2 lone vampires, but if a group of vampires gang up on a werewolf, they’d most likely win.

In vampire the masquerade, vampires are the ones supposed to bring the end of the world while werewolves are mere foot soldiers. It honestly depends on what abilities the Vampire in question has, and how good at using them they are. Usually a Werewolf has a physical edge when transformed, but in this form there is no intelligence, no direction beyond the urge to kill. Sometimes Vampires have only immortality and enhanced physical attributes- in a straight fight the Werewolf would likely dominate. However, if the Vampire prepared, and carries silver weapons, then the odds are in their favour. Additionally there are other abilities a Vampire may have- flight, shapeshifting into bats and mist, hypnotism, control over animals, invisibility, and in some rare cases shadow manipulation, illusions, and some form of magic. If a Vampire has some of these abilities and uses them effectively then this can almost certainly make up for the difference in physical power. But to top it off, Werewolves don’t really increase in power- mastery of their condition comes not from that, but from control within the transformation. The older a Vampire, the stronger they become. A werewolf may be able to shred a Vampire of one hundred or even five hundred years, but give them a few thousand years and I doubt the werewolf will be feeling so confident.
