In Twilight they actually mentioned about the true werewolves who are on the brink of extinction because vampires committed genocide on werewolves due to the fear of being hunted down. As far as I know, true werewolves are the direct predators for vampires, they have no emotion, no fear, transform during full moon and one can win against vampires in 1v1 or even 1 vs multiple vampires. Thing is, they are animals, through and throughm unlike these wolves

Have yoù seen the werewolf from american werewolf in london? Yeah thats how werewolves should look like or like in dog soldiers, unlike those "wolves". A lycan is supposed to be a mix of human and wolf. And its looks is supposed to instill extreme fear, which is not the case here.

So number one? Yes Van Helsings werewolf form is cool. But as to your first question the antagonist vampires are trying to provoke a response from the protagonist ones. They came here fully with the intention of killing most of them but they need justification. This was probably the third attempt to provoke them to act violently right before they killed Carlisle.

Well, strategy was definitely not used for this scene at all. For example, they know that Jane could cause crippling pain just by thinking it. However, they also knew that Bella could “shield” people from another’s “power”. So, logically, she could have been paired with a Shapeshifter and blocked their foes powers while the Shapeshifter tore them apart.

Actually, up until the 20th century werewolves were humans who transformed into normal wolves. The idea was a creature with the strength and teeth/claws of a predator and the mind of a human. The best you got was a human-sized wolf (still much larger than a normal wolf). These are even larger, if i remember they're double-mass, (like 400 lbs) but are still closer to the original folklore then the wolf-man most connect to the modern "werewolf".
