Personal opinion is, 10k buys a decent amount of fuel, and mods. Idk, standing upright is cool, but nothing makes me more comfortable than 10k in my pocket. Lol e350 for me, if you haven't picked up on it. I'm also a guy that enjoys customizing my vehicles, I weld, and do carpentry, basically if it can be built, I'll build it unless the cost offsets the build.

Also consider the Econoline is body on frame where the Transit is unibody. The Econoline has different axles and springs when you go from E150 to E350, but there isn’t much difference in a Transit between a T150 and T350.

Great video. We've been "testing" vans here in Moab for 30+ years now and they all break at some point - Ha! About five years ago we switched our fleet over from E350's to Transit 350's and haven't looked back. Ours are low roof 15 passenger models that are strictly for moving bikes & people. Low roof so it's easier to load 15 bikes (or e-bikes)-oof.. on the roof and getting folks to the trailhead. And gotta have Eco-boost to haul all that weight from 2,000' in St. George, UT up to the North rim of the Grand Canyon at 9,000' - while towing a trailer full of food, camp gear and beer for a week. Needles to say we give them a proper workout. Someone should do a video showing all the different shuttle vans of Moab - there's at least 8 companies. Cheers!

Hey guys! That's awesome and we've definitely thought about all the time we've spent bouncing around in shuttle vans all across the USA! Appreciate the feedback and good to hear the longevity for such abusive use that you guys do. How many miles are on your 5 year old vans? Any turbo or block issues? suspension holding up etc? We like the story idea though. Maybe we'll be coming back for a van tour of MTB shuttle companies...

The best insulation is the polyfil, either loose or batting(good for between the ceiling and headliner). It's basically made from recycled shredded 2 liter soda bottles. It's the same thing found inside your bed pillows. It's mildew resistant and non absorbent. PLUS you simply get it for FREE. Inside abandoned pillow top sofas and chairs. Easily found next to apartment dumpsters and behind thrift stores. A utility knife cuts the fabric open to reveal it inside. The batting can be found on top of foam cushions inside. It's surprisingly clean and just to be sure, rinse it off outside with your garden hose and let dry. Take care

I am no mechanic but this is what I have gathered from experience and research. 1. The Transit has a better design both aesthetically and as far as room is concerned. 2. The Transit is better on fuel. 3. There has been alot of complaints about the transits reliability and I have no doubts there will be more as time goes on. 4. The Transit is underpowered and does not have the same payload being a V6 engine. 5. Transits, Promasters, Sprinters seem to be a better fit for 'vanlife' due to the Cabin size, however the Econoline, Savana and Express are cheaper, more reliable and there are ways to increase cabin space. Like a popup roof or buying an ooder conversion can like a Starcraft or Express.

So we have a local Emergency Service that is semi rural. They run a fleet of 80-90 vans over 2.5 counties. I know the mechanics. They HATE HATE HATE the new Promaster (front wheel drive) AND the new Transit (rear wheel dana 80). They are extremely hard to work on ...taking 5-7 times longer to swap out transmissions. The Dana 80 is hung from some silly boxed sheet metal (not full framed anymore) We live in snow country....that isn't gonna cut it 5-8 years in....it'll rust away. We have just bought the last two hightop (medium height) wheel chair vans. A 2011/2013 E-350s. . I just got back from a cross country job, six weeks ..took my XR650 and hung it off a custom rear bumper I made. I LOVE these Econolines. The E series is more heavy duty. the transit is available with all wheel drive and a diesel option. I don't go off road, so rear wheel drive is fine. The Transit drives much nicer, more comfortable and gets 18mpg vs 11mpg. Transit is much roomier inside with 5' 10" interior height. I use the transit as a diy camper, works great. Without a doubt the E350 with power stroke diesel 4x4 any day of the week this isn't even a comparison.... absolutely love my 2001E4507.3L.... wouldn't trade her for the world. Even at 308,000miles she's still happy as a pig in shit!

You could install a pop top roof so you can stand inside and you keep the nice E-350 (bad ting is that you would have to eliminate the rag storage)

Most commonly used motor on police cars and taxi cabs crown vics, was the 4.6L it outruns 5.4l, 5.4l is same as 4.6 they just put bigger jugs So more stress on the crank and 5.4 has slightly shorter life vs 4.6l, but i got about 500K miles on both motors , in my econolines ,
@TheLoamWolf4 жыл бұрын
Interesting! Drew owned a couple Interceptors from mid 2000s with the 5.4 in them. the injectors and other hop ups sure wake those things up.

@@TheLoamWolf should have mentioned one important detail, that both of my vans are pre 2003. 1999 and 2000 respectively. 2 valve per cyl. motors. When ford went with 3 valve in their tritons, it kind of killed their reliability. they still last long but not as long and requite little more maintenance, . And stay away from Transit. their transmissions dont live past 100 k

E350 Diesel, period. ($4450 '08) 428,000 mi. No windows, cavernous beast. Room to spare. 17 - 22 mpg. Experiment with fuels...25-mpg. (Truck stop BP) Laughs at overweight, lugs loaded uphill like a locomotive. Steers the interstate like on a rail. Behaves better loaded. Purchased post the "6.0 maintenance nightmare". In which case, I am sure a Transit is much more forgiving. Otherwise, E350 near perfect.

@@TheLoamWolf I stumbled upon my '08 extended Super Duty diesel E350 on a drive after church one Sunday. I met with the seller and having 400k + high miles, I was able to negotiate a very nice $4450 "on the road" deal. Fortunately for me, with 400k miles, everything had already been done to it, including fresh tranny and new suspension springs! Test drive did reveal a vibration. No problem. Two new Moog u-joints were installed in the deal. Granted, ...tons of nice van's out there, but fuel expenses ed are killing everyone. While my diesel at 17 - 25 mpg, it's a no brainer what my daily driver is. It still amazes me. But you are absolutely right. There is no rational justification for diesel powerplant replacements costs up to $15,000. That is painful to even a rich man. Ultimately the only common sense reason to select a diesel over gas is when it is your bread and butter. If the truck is making you easy 6-digits + income anually, then sure. $8000 to $15,000 is maintenance you will eventually see a financial return on. Growing up I have witnessed two groups/owners of abandoned Ford vehicles. V-10 Excursions (unbearably awful fuel mileage) and failed puked out 6.0/6.4 Ford diesels. Just park it.

You can get a good deal on the 15 passenger vans b/c many states have outlawed them for use by churches, schools and any public use b/c of the rollover issues and liability issues. I’d go with the Transit for that reason alone.

It's a good thing that Ford went ahead and installed a faux vent hole on the lower portion of the Econoline's front bumper for off road lighting...or maybe you're starving your transmission cooler of fresh air flow by completely filling in that opening???
@TheLoamWolf4 жыл бұрын
We see what you did there... Luckily we don't tow anything with the van so it's slightly less worrisome than if we had a big van loaded with toys or 15 humans instead of one person and 4 bicycles.
